Abba vs NWS stands
Hi. Am looking for a stand that can be used one person and had settled on the Abba before seeing someone else mention NWS.
Before I buy just wondering if anyone could explain the pros/cons of either? |
Re: Abba vs NWS stands
Abba requires adaptors to fit each machine, NWS has tapered pins so it doesn't require a kit to fit each bike, (but see comment below).
NWS has a back stop so the stand is locked upright once the bike is on it, Abba doesn't and isn't as stable. Both work in the same way - they engage in the swingarm pivot to become effectively a centrestand, (a big one - oooer). I've owned both and I'd use either, but I wouldn't buy another Abba as the NWS is simply better and more stable. Some people have rightly pointed out the pins on the NWS won't engage in a solid swingarm pivot, in this circumstance put a socket on each end and secure the stand to that, I've done this many times and it's perfectly stable, and the adaptors, (such as they are), are on your socket rail already rather than being extra cost. |
Re: Abba vs NWS stands
what are the advantages of these stands over say paddock stands??
|
Re: Abba vs NWS stands
ten times more stable. easier to use on your own if on a slope. can fift the front end.

Re: Abba vs NWS stands
I don't think NWS stand are available any more.
I can't really see why a tapered adapters can't be used in the Abba stand for all bikes. |

Yup take a look at this.
its probably about 50% less stable than a proppor adaptor. the reason is no matter how much you try and tighten it into the swing arm it will not be 100% snug so it tends to rock a little when lifting. It does work and it works ok, ish but i wouldnt trust it on anyone elses bike. Bearing in mind im doing this on an uphill not flat surface. Would probably be alright ona garage floor. I think half of the problem is ive fitted it to the cups of the standard fitting kit. If i can get some more makde that are "full size" then they may be better. but i cant be bothered atm. |

Nah they're fine to put on on your own. Abba is easier and more sturdy IMO.

Re: Abba vs NWS stands
To be honest if your on the flat theres nothing wrong with a paddock stand. They can be a bit unsteady when lifting especially if your on a slope. The abba stand is a lot more stable and although expensive it will help lots.
If you can afford it get one, if not youll be fine with a paddock stand on the flat. |
Re: Abba vs NWS stands
I have both paddock stand and ABBA stand. The paddock stand is quick to get the bike on and is fine for basic maintenance tasks. The paddock stand is ideal for cleaning, due to convenience. For more complex maintenance tasks, ABBA all the way, more stable and secure for when you are pulling on spanners. :D
