Best roads in Essex

Where are they?

Often times I fancy going for a ride but have nowhere to go. I'm not like most people who can just get on and ride to anywhere... I need to have a destination in mind.

My road knowledge consists of 90% motorway or A roads, and the other 10% backroads aren't really what I'd call great.

Not going to be fussy with recommendations but if you so wish, a google maps plot will earn you a drink next time I see ya ;)

Any road leading out of Essex is a good road :p

Burnham Bends spring to mind.

Hear hear :)

I actually live on the border of Hertfordshire as well so any in that direction is cool also.

Was told burnham bends was very trafficy more often than not? Roads leading off the bends are meant to be good. Think Dave told me that, or someone else on here.

Indeed. I don't rate the burnham bends. They are great every now and again, but I don't think I did them more than once last season.

Most of the AR08 route is good. Hong, come April I'll take you to some decent roads if you fancy.

went that way in the car few weeks back, from epping all the way through to sudbury, quite a detour, but would have been even nicer in the car.

I'll second that. The B1058 from Sible towards Sudbury is fun too instead of taking the A1124 through Halstead.

rode through eight ash green to halstead sunday evening, onto sudbury on the A134 then back to colchester via bures.

Superb roads and very little traffic, best bit was halstead to sudbury, although bures to wormingford is a nice twisty but fast b road.
