Re: want a evo or scobby, sorry your to young
I can think of 12 kids that have died recently in my area (last 2 years)... None were high performance cars, one was a 1.6 206, another was a 1.0 106 and the other a Saxo... All of them crashed with 4 in the car and after 10 o clock at night, and none will doubt they were showing off to their mates.
Cars are not the problem attitude and stupidity is. Banning new drivers from carrying passengers after 6pm would have a much bigger impact. |
Re: want a evo or scobby, sorry your to young
Yep we've had a few here as well G, saxo was one of the ones I remember most recently.
I've always said cars should be like bikes, a set limit on bhp for 2 years, top speed limited to 70 mph etc. Agree passengers after 6pm might help as well, enforcement is the problem though, police already over stretched. Insurance on fast cars for young people is what normally stops kids getting these cars. |
Re: want a evo or scobby, sorry your to young
i was about to post the same as G and specialpleb..... just go to the local KFC, macdonalds, halfords and looks at the nobjocks sat outside, their cars couldn't push the 15 secs 0-60 yet they are the ones in question
i ran a quote on mattSV's turbo wagon when he was selling it and it came up over 2 1/2 grand with 3 years NCB. could afford it but that price was enough to put me off, if they are stupid enough to pay that to insure a care then i say let then, they'll plant it up a tree and cleanse the gene pool :smt080 |
Re: want a evo or scobby, sorry your to young
all well and good..
apart from one bit.. "raising the minimum age of driver" so how are the 17,18 + age supposed to get to work college ect ? because public transport fails, not every one want to ride a moped or bike not every one lives near or in range to use other forms of transport ? so those people then add to the teens that have no job or no further education Etc so on so forth |

I couldnt afford a bike or car back then, i coped as a lot of others did, so thats a lame excuse. There is more money around nowadays with parents helping much more than in my early years as well. |

On the fence about passengers, would like to know the opinion of the police of how in the name of all that is holy could they police that? Its also tars all us young people with the same brush, punishing those who need/are sensible just because you're local ***** in a suuped up corsa is being a tosser.
I don't agree with raising the minimum age, cant see the difference between 17 and maybe a few years older, the age debate has been done to death with the bike limit at '21', when alot of people who are unfortunately injuring themselves are not young. I have had a few mates killed, been in a smash myself. Not good one bit. I think it's the attitude more than any other factor, insurance 9/10 times makes the decision on what car you get, most crashes my way are rural where the driver has been going too fast for the conditions or just lost control. Don't need a fast car to cause/be involved in a fatal/serious smash. Since I had a smash, I hit another car, he made a claim against me, i didn't claim for my car, now I cannot get any insurance on ANY car. 19 y/o, clean license, 1.0L or less, high mileage, cost >500, and the lowest quote I can get TPO is £2400. If we make one silly mistake, insurance makes the choice for us then. |
