Re: Passer By Pushes Suicide Man
We had a lady on a bridge over the M60 for hours a while ago. Both carriageways had to be closed, it was total traffic chaos!
The local radio station heard and played.......... This Cue complaints, wailing a gnashing of teeth and wringing of hands etc. Pete ;) |
Re: Passer By Pushes Suicide Man
Well yeah, if you're going to kill yourself, you go and do it.
Going to stand on a bridge or whatever for hours THREATENING to kill yourself is a cry for attention. |
Re: Passer By Pushes Suicide Man
I had a mate commit suicide.
He took 10 times the lethal dose, sometimes you aint attention seeking. |

He didn't cry for attention. |

i'd rather call it a cry for help mate-a guy hung himself today on a local track that we go to almost everyday, kids walk by all the time, he left a note and his nephew found him, i'd rather he climbed onto a bridge and sat for hours and maybe got given the help so clearly needed-i've lost a family member through suicide and it has got to be one of the most painful ways for someone to lose a loved one-so many questions that cannot be answered.. |

Re: Passer By Pushes Suicide Man
On a serious note, I think its terrible when things get so bad they committ or attempt suicide, lifes too precious.
Euthanasia is a different thing though, if you're terminally ill or heavily disabled with no standard of life you should be able to have assisted suicide. |
Re: Passer By Pushes Suicide Man
On a serious note, that article was from 3 years ago. ;)

Re: Passer By Pushes Suicide Man
That airbag , wasn`t quite inflated though was it , looked a bit baggy to me and he didn`t hit the centre where it is most effective .

Re: Passer By Pushes Suicide Man
A very good friend of mine went missing 2 weeks ago following an argument with his wife. His truck was found parked near the Severn Bridge later the following day. Apparently there is CCTV footage of someone jumping from the bridge.
As said before, sometimes you ain't attention seeking. Just hope it wasn't him that jumped. |
Re: Passer By Pushes Suicide Man
'You wanna jump, well lets do itm lets do it'

Re: Passer By Pushes Suicide Man
Seen it twice, once a next door neighbour, and once my Uncle. A wife and two young daughters left behind in both cases.
IMO it's people who are of a certain character trait, and have reached a point where they can see no future for themselves. It's definitely an illness. That doesn't excuse putting some poor train driver into early retirement with post traumatic stress disorder though. If you are going to commit suicide, do it in such a way that there's not much cleaning up to do, doesn't give an innocent bystander nightmares, and doesn't disrupt Joe Public for hours on end. Think Euthanasia should be completely legal though, even if you are not ill. If my son was all grown up, his kids were growing up, I was a grand old age, already had a good innings, and my wife became terminally ill, I'd want to be allowed to climb into bed with her on the night she died, and have a needle stuck in me so I didn't wake up either. Whatever is on the other side, we'd arrive together, and I think my son would understand that. |

Police recovered a body from the river Severn at Portishead on Saturday afternoon. A formal id has yet to be made but police have confirmed they are no longer looking for my friend. I am very upset and distressed by this situation and turn of events. I have been in a similar frame of mind as him in the past but was unable to go through with it - call it self-preservation, cowardice or a glimmer of hope - but I can't reconcile myself to the fact that he has gone. Gone and left a 5hitty mess behind. I can only begin to imagine what his wife and kids are going through right now. RIP Mark Peachey. |
Re: Passer By Pushes Suicide Man
It's not something I would contemplate in desperate times, I guess I can understand why people may do though.
For me, If everything went very tits up I'd rather sell everything I had (if anything) and begin walking to the far east where I would live on a beach on some uninhabited island. Quote:

Re: Passer By Pushes Suicide Man
You can understand the temptation! Mind you, not everyone is attention seeking (I mean, he'd taken his rucksack and his hat with him - neither strictly necessary for a jump), so let's be kind and call it a cry for help.
Obviously, in this case, followed by a cry for medical assistance... |

Tinpants - Hugs
Dealing with the aftermath is the hard part. But do what husk says he speak sense. My own experience is that I wish my cousin didn't cry for help, attempted suicide twice and now has major mental health issues. It sounds harsh but i think it wiuld be a better result than his lifes as it stands |
Re: Passer By Pushes Suicide Man
Thanks guys. I'll be shedding a tear for him and his family in private later, followed by the raising of a pint or two of cider to one of the nicest blokes I've ever met. Wherever he is now I hope he is at peace.
As an aside, I agree 100% with Ralph's piece on euthanasia. Very eloquently put my friend. |

Re: Passer By Pushes Suicide Man
I spared a thought for Mark last night.
We had a jumper on Barton high level bridge (the M60 bridge by the Trafford Centre) last night. He was talked back from the wrong side of the railings and taken to a psych ward. Unluckily for him, when he parked his three week old car on the roundabout at the access to the bridge and walked away from it, he left the keys in the ignition. Needless to say, his car was stolen... Pete ;) |

"well done mate, thats right, come back over the railings, good, now the other foot, well done. By the way your car's been nicked." |
Re: Passer By Pushes Suicide Man
The car might be recovered. Whoever nicked it was an opportunist who came across it, so unless the guy has been very unlucky, the thief doesn't have the contacts to dispose of a 3 week old car. It'll be sitting in a garage somewhere whilst the thief wonders what the hell to do with it. Maybe it'll turn up joy ridden and burned out or trashed.
