Sat nav fitting point on a sv650s?
Ive got a old nokia 5800 which can be used as a sat nav. Ive been looking into fitting it onto the sv650s and noticed as the naked sv has the hi-risebars that fit across the yoke its easier to fit something like this. Has anyone worked out a way to do this on the 's'
Heres the kit.... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bike-Motor...&_qi=RTM742988 |
Re: Sat nav fitting point on a sv650s?
You could convert your yoke to one from a naked bike with the normal bars but this usually requires longer cables for your clutch etc.
Will that bracket not fit to the clip-on bar somewhere? Worth measuring up by contacting the supplier? |
Re: Sat nav fitting point on a sv650s?
If that mount has a RAM mount fitting, then the best thing to buy is a Teleferizer RAM mount for the S
http://www.telferizer.com/ Takes about 10mins to fit. If that mount doesn't have a RAM fitting, then I'm sure there must be one about, have a look in the links on the Telferizer site. £27 I've got a Telferizer, its great. If not one of these, but its probably the wrong shape http://www.hein-gericke.co.uk/street...ps-tasche.html |

They are crap mate and are not waterproof at all. I got one for my HTC and didnt fit it in the end. I was going to "modify" an old bycicle bar end to mount to the little free space on the clip-on. Then bend and cut to the shape I needed that would allow me to mount this. I put the lot straight in the bin it was that bad. |

I use something similar to this on my pointy:
http://www.motorbikesandparts.co.uk/...d-p-23358.html Lol - Mine's a little more home made (my wife sowed on some velcro strips.. bless!) TBH its a pain to take on and off every time you want to use it. I'd be keen to find a better system for mounting my tom tom.. The givi s850 is really good though (according to other members who use it) |
Re: Sat nav fitting point on a sv650s?
Will keep an eye on this thread.
Muzikill, is your bike a pointy? Your avatar is too small at the screen resolution I use. If so a RAM mount like this will do the job. Hongman tried it recently on a curvy and he thought there wasn't enough space, so he bought a telferizer. http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/l...f/HPIM1332.jpg And this ebay seller sells RAM mountable cases for £20 http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Buybits-GPS...=p4634.c0.m322 I am looking for a similar solution for my smartphone (Samsung Omnia Pro) on my XT600 as I use it for GPS electronic OS mapping, and Google Maps Satellite view when off-road biking. I don't need it to be waterproof, I just need it to be tough enough to hold the phone securely when riding over rough ground, and allow the phone to be on charge via the USB port, as the GPS uses the battery very quickly. |
Re: Sat nav fitting point on a sv650s?
Its a pointy ralph, i wondered if the left bar had enough room and your photo proves it. I was looking at fabricating a bar to mount somewhere as well.

Re: Sat nav fitting point on a sv650s?
I think this is the right RAM mounting - correct me if I'm wrong:

Re: Sat nav fitting point on a sv650s?
I use one of those zip cases - I've never had any problems.. One little trick I use is to stick your tom tom in a ziplock plastic bag, similar to the bags you put sandwiches in.. :) Doesn't get much more waterproof than that!

Re: Sat nav fitting point on a sv650s?
Yup, i prefer the yoke mounted ram 'ball' nice and central, although i still cant seem to get a link that has a price for it yet...

Very good point ;) Didnt say all he sells is crap. Just that particular case. Only thing making it crap is the lack of waterproofness and fit is dodgy. Your totally right. Dont do this on the cheap. Get a TOM TOM or Garmin if you can. |

Give him a call and he'll tell you how to pay. It'll be sent very quickly! For the Pointy, you might need to buy a curvy top yoke nut, as it has a hole, if not Tasty Nuts sell yoke nuts with a hole |
Re: Sat nav fitting point on a sv650s?
the pointy has a hole in it.

Re: Sat nav fitting point on a sv650s?
Ive just been and seen my yoke nut and there is no hole in it unless there is a cover cap over it which it didnt look like. What size hole should my new yoke nut have in it?

Re: Sat nav fitting point on a sv650s?
Just thought I would post up this as I came across this thread when I was searching for the solution to this.
I wanted a mount for my TomTom sat nav, however as there is not much room on the handlebars and I don't have a hole in my top nut I went for this option. http://img27.imageshack.us/img27/7244/photo9dz.jpg Been out on a ride today and tried it out, and I have come back with the sat nav still attached so it works perfectly. Didn't get in the way to see the speedo and I could see it no problems, might have a play about and try it in various places but otherwise I am very pleased with the purchase. Thanks to this thread, but in case anyone was looking for the bits, I have posted the links to the items required. I had the case for my TomTom IQ Routes 2 but you can put different ones in. Excellent service from this company though, found them on ebay and he sent me back what I needed, arrived quickly too, http://www.buybits.com/product/3568.aspx http://www.buybits.com/product/3565.aspx http://www.buybits.com/product/6525.aspx |
