Which new mobile?

Woke up with a bad headache, took some codeine so I could get up, and as usual it left me feeling completely spaced out and I left my mobile on the bus. (Last time it was my glasss and before that a pair of shoes, I should avoid codeine really).

So if my trusty Nokia X6 doesn't turn up today in Lost Property, what should I go for instead?

I'm with Orange, out of contract anyway and due an upgrade. I'm also a Premier customer so they'll want to keep me.

I've had Nokia since mobiles were like bricks, but they've got so far behind on the techie stuff they are not worth looking at. Although I see they have a Lumia 800 coming out - any feedback on this?

I text a lot, use the internet for Facebook and the Org, and I like to take pics of random stuff. I don't play games or music. I also need the phone to synchronise with my work Outlook emails and calendar and what I liked about my Nokia was being able to send texts via Ovi from my PC.

And I also drop my phone about 10 times a day, sometimes into cake mixture or a bucket of water.

Rule out the iphone, I don't like Apple stuff, and Blackberry - my thumbs are the wrong shape for the buttons so I need a touch screen.

Suggestions? Recommendations? Ones to avoid?

Not as fussy as Blackberries

Robust (I drop mine all the time)

One of the Sony Ericsson Xperia range perhaps.

Have the Play, its a little behind the curve HW-Spec wise, but has other features that for me make up for is.

As you are not a gamer (that I know of) the Arc or the Ray may be good for you.

The Xperia Arc S is just out, and gets good reviews.

I like the SE phones as they chose to allow users to unlock them (not from the Network) which means that if SE dont provide a firmware upgrade to the latest Android version, its not difficult to put it on there yourself (well if you are a techie-geek).

Galaxy s2. I'm on Orange and have been for ages, mine is costing me £14 a month for more calls, texts and data than I can ever use. I don't bother with the home phone at all any more and use it all over for the .org and so on. Even on top of hills in Wales, it gets a good data link.

The camera is superb, (see my avatar)

It's light, slim and good to hold (just like...no, stop it!) with a gorgeous AMOLED screen.

I wouldn't change it for anything.

Pete ;)

PS,

I'm on codeine for my elbow, currently cruising at around 8000 feet, chatting with a tube of refreshers!

I have a HTC Desire, it does it's job and has been dropped a few times. I saw the new Nokia on telly at the weekend, it looks quite good and is a Windows phone so should deal with your Outlook stuff well.

They also showed a new smartphone that was flexible enough to bend without breaking, not sure what it was but I could do with one for the kids...my eldest son has just trashed his Samsung Omnia7 :(

My usage is much like yours.

I've got a Samsung Galaxy S2 and its ace.

I'd recommend it.

just finally got round to upgrade from a htc hero g2 to a sony xperia ray. I like the fast turnaround of android updates. Incidentally just arrived now charging on my table :)

Have a look ate http://www.motorola.com/Consumers/XW...OLA-DEFY-XW-EN
if you drop it in the plonk a lot

If you go Nokia they are windows based after the tie up with microsoft see
http://www.nokia.co.uk/gb-en/products/phone/lumia800/

I considered the
htc sensation, incredible s, wildfire s
Sony arc s, ray, neo

The factors I considered were battery life, compatibility with office 365 / exchange, gps, web browsing, 8 m camera, android ICS upgrade, size ( I didnt want a widescreen tv in my pocket :) ) and finally cost.

My HTC Desier suvived several drops(Few dents on the side) being dropped in the Loo.
IT does lots of stuff and has Angy Birds :)

Re: Which new mobile?

Something that doesn't need charging up twice a day would be nice.

I don't really understand the difference between Windows and Android and dual processors and stuff. Help!

What is Angry Birds - I thought that was something you only got when you sent a saucy text to the wrong woman?

Get the iphone4! The apps make it an immense machine

I don't like iphones at all though. Break too easy, big and cumbersome. And I don't use apps.

Thats because you haven't had an iPhone yet! I was like that, but with about a day of getting it my life was on there. (and mines 14 months old and has only broke once (last month) which was just a cast of pushing buttons).

LPH,

I use the GS2 a LOT, and I only charge it every other day.

Phone Orange and have a chat about what they've got and what they'll offer.

I have a Blackberry and it has never broke! :D As with most phones I have owned, Apple phone do seem to be delicate, my son has a 3GS and it has been replaced once due to a software problem and now the replacement which is only 8 months old now has a flickering screen, so looks like another repair/replacement.

That's what you get when the Mrs reads your sent text's lol.
It's a fun game .
Most smart phones eat the battery .
You can extend it by tuning parts off..
On hol mine lasted 3 days one 5 min call a day and just to check the weather .
But mainly last the day used properly .

Doesn't mean you can't still recommend. If you don't know, then you don't know what you're missing.

I love how I can control my skybox remotely from another town, how I can hook my laptop to the Tv and use iphone as a mouse, how I can take 360degree panoramic shots, etc etc.

I agree with hating the apple interface, itunes is a chore, and not a fan of macs. But the iphone can serve so many purposes, there will be apps out there for everyone, even people who think they have no use for them.

You think that the iPhone is the only device that can do those things.

And I think the OP was pretty certain about not wanting a Jesus Phone

It would have to be one hell of an offer - for a £15 monthly two year contract on the website they want £300 for a Galaxy 2.

I had an Iphone yes it was good, I gave it to my wife and i have the samsung now, nuff said. They all do basically the same, so it doesn't matter which one you use, you get the one you like.

It's loyalty points, that's all. I've been with Orange since about 1999. You accrue points each month you have a contact. This is thefirst time I'v cashed mine in. worth it for the tech I have!

Motorola DEFY+, with features I'd call LPH proof (dustproof, water & scratch resistance), while it's cake resistance is unknown it should have all you need.

Note: This is the DEFY+ NOT the old DEFY.

Got a Galaxy S from T-mobile about 14 months ago. Works brill and it would be hard to beat. £29 a month, unlimited minutes and texts and the phone was free. The battery lasts about 3 days, and its has 8Gb of internal and 8Gb external memory.

I'd recommend it to anyone.

Re: Which new mobile?

The Motorola Defy+ is good as its designed as a tough smartphone.

Its a middle phone but the phone is better than the specs suggest.

I have one and its been spot on and I would have another. The new + version as a bigger battery too.

Have had DEFY+ for about 3 weeks now and love it. Had a more basic Android phone for previous 12 months (Samsung i5800) so found the new one very easy to use. Cannot emphasise enough to get the DEFY+, not the older DEFY. Battery is bigger, as stated above, and it lasts me a day easily. Also the software is more stable on the new version.

And I've already dropped it on the drive and it just bounced!

I am reunited with my X6. And just been on the phone to Orange retentions department about what they will offer me to stay - I think I'll try and get the new Nokia Windows phone. I've read good reviews.
