4 Degree timing advance key dimensions?

Hi all

I work in the aerospace industry and have a supplier who specialise in engineering of small high tolerance parts.

So to that effect does anyone have the dimensions of either a 4 degree advance key or an original woodruff key, along with the depth of the key way in the rotor.

If so I can get one made instead of purchasing, although I've yet to find out the price of one as JHS have not replied to my emails.

Thanks

Jim

You can get a touch over 2deg simply by slotting the holes in the pick-up, just as an alternative. You get quite a lot of the benefits, particularly snappier feel off idle, without needing to pull the flywheel.

Hiya Jim, whereabouts in the world are you? It was me that just sold a JHS ignition advancer but I do have a spare that I will not be fitting to my curvy for a bit yet. Maybe we could come to an arrangement where I loan it to you to do measurements in exchange for a freebie once you've made them so I have one for my road bike and one for the track bike :) I'm sure other curvy owners on here would be interested in buying one from you if you can produce a few?

Hi SVmonkey

I'm near spalding in Lincolnshire but i venture up to see my inlaws in Leyland every so often, flying past your door as they say.

Or you could post it down to me and I would get some made with a freebie for you and your offer :0)

Interested to know what they cost ya normally, i would prob have to get 50 or so made to be cost effective but i'm sure I would soon shift those.

Let me know

Jim

Hi Embee

Thats interesting, so that gives "around" 2 degree? .... how accurate is the "around"

How accurate do you want to be? It was 2 or 2.5 I think (a long while since I did it).

When I did mine I measured the idle ignition before/after and saw a nominal 2deg shift, but you might be able to get it a touch more depending on how far you want to shift the pick-up. As per the photo the pick-up body sits in a recess in the cover, you could fettle some of the cover away to move it a little further, the slot would probably break out of the end of the tab so a slightly larger dia washer or even a stepped item made to clamp it if the tab ends get too near the bolt centreline (if you see what I mean).

Hi All

OK I'm having a small batch of 15 keys made at the moment, due to the small qty it will be a couple of weeks before they arrive with me.

See the For Sale section for more details

Some nice info on here about what the advance key helped with

Look at the bottom end torque after the key was fitted

and after the bike was jetted correctly which IMHO would have been most of the gain.
