Question about retrofitting brake calipers
I'm looking at fitting some triumph calipers to my SRAD 750 which I understand should fit... but the SRAD discs are 300mm and the discs the triumph takes are 320mm. Is this likely to scupper operation lastminute.com?

Re: Question about retrofitting brake calipers
Tried that. Negative.

Re: Question about retrofitting brake calipers
They deffo won't fit?

Re: Question about retrofitting brake calipers
Oh deary me!

Re: Question about retrofitting brake calipers
These were the really common triumph ones that they've fitted on all sorts. S4/daytona 600/t595/955i etc. No they didn't fit... they are same centers as sumitomos that yammie use... i ended up putting these on my XJ900!
Only thing is I think pre t595 stuff might fit... they are nissins that look same as old GSXR11/bandit 12 ones they will fit. Then don't worry about disc... trumpet was 300 i think, your SRAD is 320... mounting holes on fork are different to accomodate this. |
Re: Question about retrofitting brake calipers
According to demon tweaks my srad is 300 (although I thought it was 320!) and the Triumph Sprint RS 955 1999-2005 have a 320mm disc
They're 4pot nissins, I know for a fact they have the same mounting hole spacing (90mm) as I spotted them in a shop and measured them once. I also know* they fit the zx9r and the SRAD 750 (+mk1 bandit1200) also fit the kwak zx9r...which lead me to believe they should be fine on my srad 750. If that's not a definite I might go ahead and fetch them tomorrow just on the off chance. *When I say know...it's according to this thread http://www.zx-9r.net/phpBB2/viewtopi...=pots+calipers |
Re: Question about retrofitting brake calipers
No SRAD ever had 300 disc
Dunno about sprint but given the general accuracy of demon tweaks... bullsh*t. If they are nissin on side they'll be right. All others that are different have "triumph" cast into side AFAIK. |
Re: Question about retrofitting brake calipers
They have triumph on the casting :(
|
Re: Question about retrofitting brake calipers
You know what bike they came off?
Re measure centers... mine on XJ (from tt600 or a speed 4) measure less than 90mm centers |
Re: Question about retrofitting brake calipers
They are from a 1999-2005 sprint 955 RS 90mm center to center (confirmation coming tomorrow, but I've measured them in a shop before for suitability before I got my tokicos [Spit] and they were 90mm)
I've read the Triple 955s are 83mm (IIRC) |
Re: Question about retrofitting brake calipers
Just from googling sprint 955i they look exactly same as ones I have which did not fit SRAD.
I'd be surprised if triumph used 2 different but same looking calipers on different bikes in range made at same time when everything else was same. I would get tokico or nissin. Just IMO... feel free to try. |
Re: Question about retrofitting brake calipers
You see that kwakka link above?
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Suzuki-GSX...#ht_500wt_1127 the picture in the above also looks promising. If I can assume the mounting is fine, are there any other considerations? i.e I don't want to have to use any spacers or shave anything off if they're to one side. I'll know the hole centers by the morning and if ok I'm going to go fetch them to have a go, worth a shot considering I want to get back on the bike ASAP. |
Re: Question about retrofitting brake calipers
Comparing these 2 pics
http://images01.olx.fr/ui/1/67/85/8676285_1.jpg http://www.hermys.com/downloads/Sp4_008.jpg ACtually I think there is good chance these will fit. |
Re: Question about retrofitting brake calipers
Really hoping so, I've now got two sets lined up. One to borrow and one to buy so providing they fit I'm much much happier about my crappy self inflicted situation
Will update to help the cause when I know. |
Re: Question about retrofitting brake calipers
just had a measure myself having both a T5 speed triple and an S4 out front helps, hole to hole on these calipers, outside edge to outside edge is 90mm/ inside edge to inside edge is 75mm, centre to centre is 83mm, these are the common calipers on t595/955i daytona, speed triple 885/955, the speed 4/tt600 are the same measurements, all sit on 320mm discs and are driven by a 14mm master cylinder.

I'll see what the seller says tomorrow when he's measured his. Really hope they're correct somehow. |
Re: Question about retrofitting brake calipers
Cheers for measuring btw Mark

Pic above and other info suggests sprint did actually have different calipers to rest of triumphs at time. |
Re: Question about retrofitting brake calipers
as it's a couple of holes he's measuring between, the outside edge to the other hole outside edge and the inside edge to the other inside edge are more accurate, or get him to put a couple of correct bolts threw and do center to center, just make sure you compare like for like with you forks mountings.
Cheers Mark. |
Re: Question about retrofitting brake calipers
Will do cheers guys.
Edit - looking a bit more promising, emailed a guy about some triumph calipers this morning on ebay and he's just emailed back saying they've gone but he has some mk1 bandit calipers which are identical. |

Re: Question about retrofitting brake calipers
are the old r1 callipers (blue spot) not 90mm?
|
Re: Question about retrofitting brake calipers
I remember measuring some up for SRAD years ago and they didn't fit
|
Re: Question about retrofitting brake calipers
I reckon, they'd fit.....if same as Nissins I'm thinking about.
By the way, if you need pads for them, give us a shout(not yet, got to clear my box). I might have a set of virtually new EBC sintered. Don't let the 'virtually' put you off...will explain that bit if and when you do indeed require some and I can locate them. |
Re: Question about retrofitting brake calipers
It's Just getting them to me ,as I'm after them ASAP
Weighing up whether to go for a fully refurbished set for £200 with no pads or a set off a 7k bike for £70 Is financial rape for piece mind worth it, hmmm |
Re: Question about retrofitting brake calipers
(I'm going to France Thursday)

Re: Question about retrofitting brake calipers
90 mm centre to center , measured by them and me, can move pistons with fingers, really nice guys and haggled a bargain.also left with some parts for my golf
Anyone needing parts near matlock pm me and I'll put you in touch with the aladdins cave,3 barns full of bikes and one for vws |

Re: Question about retrofitting brake calipers
Pardon the derail, I've noticed something similar on your pic.
Why is it that in front brake callipers one of the pistons is bigger than the other? |
Re: Question about retrofitting brake calipers
Brakes are loads better than before, knew it was the calipers. Will have to see what was going on with the old ones but for now I'm sorted, didn't dare service these seeing as they seemed in good order and in case anything went wrong!
Went for a test ride and they still suffer from a lack of feel that I've had a while, they seem to work just squeeze the lever beyond a point and you can feelyourself slowing rapidly but you get no feedback, very almost locked up the front in testing at 40mph but reckovered with a mini 'tankslapper'/headshake. Next test of the brake was rounding a bend to find a massive ****ing donkey in the middle of the road.... ....once I started slowing and revving as it ran off it became clear it was just a freakishly tall dear with an ugly face but a memorable test. The lack of feel, has bugged me for a while and while looking into brakes found it's a common complaint from SRAD riders. One fix* I noticed was a guy that lengthened the pin in his span adjustment and reported it sorted everything, didn't fancy that but it reminded me that I'd already done something about this last years and bought some spazzo levers. Not road tested them but the usable travel seems much much better, solid feel to the lever. Will see how I get on. Once I'm back from France I'll service the calipers and address the hoses. Cheers for your help guys *the most common fix is a radial mastercylinder though. |
