Marks Windy Road

For those of us on the Loomies outing with Mark on his route, here is 'that' windy road

Re: Marks Windy Road

Is that the Steep road where I can't quite make that big left at 150?...... sorry I meant 35!

DJ123 20-08-12 08:26 PM

Re: Marks Windy Road

no, this is the one with the wooded section, where Scott came out with us. Apparantly 2pm is a better time to try ;)

Thunderace 20-08-12 08:37 PM

Re: Marks Windy Road

Yeah that's the badger, uphill through some almost hairpins, hang a left, lots of swooping stuff down to the junction, turn round and repeat:D

Awesome bit of road but on the way back there is one bend I'm sure I could take flat out but I can't get the entry right, I've only been down there 3 or 4 times and every time I nearly bin it on that corner!:smt009

Re: Marks Windy Road

Yes Nathan it's the b2141, between the 2146 and a286... And back again. :D

Thank you DJ,

DJ123 20-08-12 08:40 PM

Re: Marks Windy Road

you know you're meant to accelerate out of a corner, not into it?! surely knowing you nearly bin it every time should tell you something, either get some new tyres &/or slow down ;)

DJ123 20-08-12 08:40 PM

Re: Marks Windy Road

No worries Spank, only jsut downloaded my sat nav maps tonight

Thunderace 20-08-12 08:43 PM

Re: Marks Windy Road

I know, but that corner is sooooo tempting, I'm sure I could get round it at full throttle but need to try it a few more times to get it right!:smt041

You should have a blast on my beasty, when you've got all that power you just want to use it!

DJ123 20-08-12 08:45 PM

Re: Marks Windy Road

shall we wait at the side of the road and watch you race up and down all day till you get it right?

Spank86 20-08-12 08:46 PM

Re: Marks Windy Road

No, we shall Follow him and chuckle.

Thunderace 20-08-12 08:47 PM

Re: Marks Windy Road

You lot blocking the road so I could use all the tarmac would make it easier, but alas that plan may not be too popular with the rozzers!:(

Re: Marks Windy Road

If someone's got an estate car I have a reasonable amount of roadworks signs.

DJ123 20-08-12 08:48 PM

Re: Marks Windy Road

This could work, early on a weekend morning place a couple of signs

Spank86 20-08-12 08:49 PM

Re: Marks Windy Road

Only ones I don't have are road closed.

DJ123 20-08-12 08:50 PM

Re: Marks Windy Road

what about diversion?

Spank86 20-08-12 08:55 PM

Re: Marks Windy Road

Same difference, you have to get permission to close roads these days so we'd need to pinch those signs.

Might get away with just roadworks and a line of cones though.

I smell a plan forming, although dates and timing would be better organised by mobile phone!;)

That road is good, it forms part of my "Basingstoke-Beach-Basingstoke" route.

Re: Marks Windy Road

part of it is but not our road, and lets hope it stays that way.

Re: Marks Windy Road

Taking the tight twisty bit, under the trees, down hill, when it's moist, at night, and with a tinted visor, and bad brakes, on a new bike, was probably one of the scariest things I've done for a while. Was so glad to be slowed down by that car in front.

Re: Marks Windy Road

Oi you lot. We'll have all sort of idiots blocking up my secret good roads. If you are going to shout about them all I'll not take you on the really good ones!

First rule of GM ride out routes ... nobody talks about GM ride out routes!

Quick DJ remove that map dads had a big day and he's not happy!;)

Mark_h 21-08-12 07:06 PM

Re: Marks Windy Road

It's good because it's not too popular. If it get too popular too many people do stupid things next there's a blanket 50 and speed camera on every good bit. Bit like good surf beaches, need to keep it quietish to keep it good.

Can share you a really good bit of road towards Taunton from the West if you want some excitement to/from Bodmin. But only if you've not given up by then and decided to blat it down the A38

Thunderace 21-08-12 07:14 PM

Re: Marks Windy Road

Not sure but I think the plan is to blat the first half as quick as possible, but any info on interesting/wiggly/nadgery bits from Devon Weswards would be much appreciated!:D

Hope to see you cornering a touch faster now........on the throttle from entry to exit!;)

DJ123 24-08-12 05:23 PM

Re: Marks Windy Road

yeah seen that before. I'm not saying that you don't go into a corner on a positive throttle, just not on FULL throttle ;)

Spank86 24-08-12 05:24 PM

Re: Marks Windy Road

Throttle is binary.

Thunderace 24-08-12 05:29 PM

Re: Marks Windy Road

The Ace only has two gears, Full tilt and parked!:smt040

DJ123 24-08-12 09:54 PM

Re: Marks Windy Road

it only has 2 gears now because the brakes work

Fallout 24-08-12 10:54 PM

Re: Marks Windy Road

My bike only has 2 gears too, but that's because Nathan broke the rest of my gear box 'helping' me take off the front sprocket.

DJ123 24-08-12 10:57 PM

Re: Marks Windy Road

why didn't you wrap the chain back around the sprockets, tie it back together (cable tie, wire something) and then try to undo the sprocket?

Fallout 24-08-12 11:05 PM

Re: Marks Windy Road

The chain was around the sprocket. Didn't need to tie it back together. So long as it's hooked over the top of each sprocket, it creates a solid link. Still had to wedge a metal bar between the wheel and swingarm as the rear brake wasn't enough, then both of us had to jump on the wrench to get it undone.
