Changing dashboard bulbs? anyone done it?

Bored of the orange colour, is it possible to change the bulb inside it?

I've got the red and blue 'instrument bling' from Chewy's Stuff but haven't got round to fitting it yet as I suspect its going to be quite tricky

I thought about this but you still want the redline to be red though, eh? not purple. Gads.

I think im gonna treat my self to the green ones they will match my bike :D as for the red line i dont realy watch the revs and dont finde my self on the red line that often I find it pulls better channging at 9k - 10k ish so shouldn't be a problem :)

As I understand it, the LEDs are surface mount and require quite a gentle solder iron. When reattaching, do make sure that you have them set the right way round or they will not light.

Good luck and do post pics of how you do it, I am most intrigued. :D

I'm guessing the LEDs used are probably the SMD ones, I've used them quite a lot as I used to do colour conversions on car switches.
If you're going to do it yourself get a soldering iron with a fine tip and some tweezers because they're bloody small!

Here's one pictured on a 1p coin to give you an idea of size

And that's not even the smallest you can get!

I swapped mine for blue last year and thought it was really easy to do.
I have a little soldering experience so if your willing to give it a go, maybe test on something old first.

A desolder pump is essential as the existing LEDs are fitted with a large amount of solder. So heat one side of each LED and remove one side of solder on each first.

Then start on the second side of each and prise them off as you heat.

Check my flickr in the sig for some pix.
