Same thing reported on MCN too. The rumour seems to be gathering momentum. Seriously hope it doesnt end up on BT Vision though because its utter dog turd.

They'll kill themselves, just like motocross did in the 90s going to sky.

Bye Bye MotoGp

That will kill it! It'll happen, Italian coverage of MotoGP has went to Sky Italia for next year. Lets see if the old guard at WSB get it back on BBC!

Load of utter tosh. I refuse to give Sky, Virgin, BT the money to watch a maximum of 3 hours of TV a day

Bt vision. Itll go the same way as itv digital. It eating up cash. People will just torrent it or watch it on catchup.

Just ruins the sports, people can't afford all these channels.

Dont forget rossi may be offski in 2 years time so this could be a double whammy of loss of viewers. Maybe dorna already know this would cause loss of revenue & are bolstering it up with a future deal.

This quote

Nuff said. your have to wait a bit and it will be back

Re: MotoGP to end 'free to air' in UK?

its a done deal ..the move is confirmed to bt vision in 2014. Ben gallop of BBC sport is a twit. Just like F1 where they created a great formula for the coverage, they then go and give up the tv rights.

This move will marginalize MotoGP even further compared with F1.

Not a good move at all :(

Just as I thought Dorna couldn't muck it up any more, they go and pull this prize rabbit out of the hat.

RIP Motogp!

Ah well, at least we still have BSB and at least for now WSB (also Dorna run hum), thought that will likely change...

According to the BT Sport website, if you are a BT Broadband customer (which I am) then you are entitled to access the channel through Sky or streamed to tablet/pc for free.

Re: MotoGP to end 'free to air' in UK?

Well this has finally made the decision for me to stop sky sports. I dont watch much footy anymore & i can see the PDC darts 'elsewhere'.

Decision will be made when they announce the pricing, bt has the english & scottish games, the 'normal' darts & motogp which is more than sky offer me to watch. I await the announcement of who will do the commentating.

Update: £15 for non bt broadband + £3 extra for HD :( - i can see paying dorna direct for online streaming a viable option.

Mind you the full sky sports package is £26.00 a month.

Re: MotoGP to end 'free to air' in UK?

I have BT vision so it won't affect me.
euro sports £2 to stream so no big worries.

andrewsmith 09-05-13 07:03 PM

Re: MotoGP to end 'free to air' in UK?

I said on facebook, £180 a year... Nah rather go spend the money going and watching road racing and club racing. Its far more entertaining and accessible

Re: MotoGP to end 'free to air' in UK?

That's that dead then.
I have to suffer the GP's on SPEED channel over here in Canadianland and the presentation is beyond dire. It got so bad at the American GP's last year I actually switched off. They were interviewing Kevin Swantz MID RACE! There were so many adverts every single overtake was missed! They cut to adverts 5 laps from the end and cut back half way through the final bloody lap!

It's not better this year but in their infinite wisdom (that's American Wisdom, so it gives you some idea) WSB was dropped this year for a program called "Are you faster than a Redneck" Yes, its as **** as it sounds!

Money, actually no, greed ruins everything!
:(

what about hi lights ?
I think BT are just trying to get there new telly of the ground .
So doing what sky did years back.
get a mate to record it or crash there pad to watch it.

Re: MotoGP to end 'free to air' in UK?

For non-BT people it's going to be £17 a month for the BT Sports channel. So £204 a year extra on top of what I already pay for a channel that's only going to show about 162 hours of TV a year that I'm actually interested in - I don't care about football, rugby, womens tennis etc....

I know Eurosport shows lots of other **** sports that I don't care about, but it does currently show MotoGP, WSBK and BSB and is just part of my Sky package that I've had for years - I get other TV channels that sometimes have something watchable on them too. £17 a month for one channel where I only want to see 1.8% of it's total yearly output is too much!

Full season multi-screen pass for MotoGP.com is currently 159 Euros... so a little bit cheaper than BT.... but still a huge hike from now.... and not one I can justify....

I guess I'll either have to find a pirate route or go without.....

Re: MotoGP to end 'free to air' in UK?

I said earlier i would stop sky sports so that would save me 302 quid a year. Ive always had my eye on a 2nd dish or dual feed to another receiver to pick up the foreign channels with the money i save itll pay for itself. This is only if the gp is on elsewhere. If one of the radio sport stations commentates then thats another option or you could set up a proxy and watch it on a catchup service online.

I expect the gp to be on spains terrestrial channel & i dont think its difficult to pick up on satellite. Maybe we should start a thread on solutions to get it.

http://www.motogp.com/en/MotoGP+Basics/tv_broadcasters

Update: Ive noticed adverts for bt sport in the rags today showing footy & tennis. Not a single one about motogp. Lets see if any of the bike rags have them.

Re: MotoGP to end 'free to air' in UK?

With moto gp going to bt it will be bye bye moto gp for me.
I'm not paying again to just watch moto gp.
I only got sky in the first place as they used to show BSB and then I could watch eurosport for moto gp.
If eurosport lose any more bike racing it will be time to think about getting rid of sky.
I dont much care for football, tennis, rugby. Cricket is good but apart from that its only the bike racing Im interested in.
Looks like I will wait till the end of the year and by the dvd !!
