The article does say the delay implies a major design revision. So who knows

Will be interesting to see if they do an SV1000 based on the new 2014 V-storm engine..... maybe tune it up a bit??

And I'm PRAYING if they do a full new model that they'll give it the suspension and brakes it deserves! :eek:

No. The whole point is that the suspension is adequate. If it were full on sports spec it would lose the character of the bike plus vastly reduce the scope for modification.

I remember the disappointment on here for both the pointy & gladius launches.

This is a very successful format, if they make it super-sports parts & money they won't sell many. Expect a new bike that amounts to a similar package overall :)

You know I disagree with that. There's no excuse for not including better suspension. The brakes are fine but even the wheel design is over 10 yrs old and a pure budget decision. Haven't they wrung enough cash from the original design? Why not be bold and do something different to make the bike attractive to even current SV owners who may wish to upgrade to a newer package and keep the character?

Also, IMO, the character of the bike is in the frame and engine characteristics which are great.

The character is in the engine and frame as previously said, plus what about those of us who haven't got the cash to swap out for a gsxr front end? I really think it would benefit from a decent fork upgrade, maybe not fully adjustable rocks that are going to shave off a millisecond off your laptime, just something that doesn't dive under harsh braking. Wouldn't be impossible with the leaps and bounds in production costs nower days to produce a good shock and forks that wouldn't cost a fortune.

On the other hand, it is very user friendly, good for most uses and with some fresh oil in the forks feels a bit more effective.


And I'm on team pointy..... not a huge fan of the curveys I'm afraid! Bit too dated for me...... am I showing my youth!? :-D

I agree, given the price difference at the moment between the SV and GSXR then they could easily spend a few hundred on suspension without loosing the differentiation. Stiffer springs would cost nothing for example.

They're not competing with the GSXR, or any other sport bike. I think they are the best bang for the buck in the entry/intermediate category, and it doesn't cost much to upgrade the front forks with springs and emulators, even add 4 pot calipers, which in my opinion, makes them better than any of their competition.

It would be even better bang for the buck if they put better suspension on, even if the price went up by a couple of hundred quid. It's got to be more cost effective for the manufacturer to do so than for individual owners to mess around welding up damper rods and swapping out springs. As I say, suitable springs cost the manufacturer nothing, whereas they'll cost the owner £90 or so.

I'd disagree with this to an extent. An ER6 is just as good stock, if not a bit better balanced, and is just as suitable for a newer rider. Don't know what the numbers are but I've seen many an ER6 around. Also, as a "budget bike" comparison you have to consider the naked bikes.

For me the SV was a 1st bike and I definitely decided on it because I didn't want a naked bike. But if I was simply going on budget I would have considered a naked. Are they better than some of the naked bikes for similar money? I don't know about that.

Edit: Sorry, just wanted to add that the SV's engine is in my opinion much more exciting than the ER6. The bike has bags more character, but not because of the porridge suspension. The sound is just a million times better and the torque is great. But, again, these are the bits of the bike that Suzuki got absolutely right 1st time!

just my 2 pence on this current conversation
most common things said about SV's
1/ there cheap
2/ the engine is full of character
3/ it lets you get away with murder when you first start rideing eg the perfect 1st big bike

therefore if you "upgrade" the forks and rear shocks from there porrigey goodness then add more focused less spongey brake you will have

1/ there more expensive (even if its just a few hundred quid)
2/ the engine has still got great character
3/ not as first big bike friendly as the previous incarnations

so in essence youve lost 2 of the 3 main reasons for buying a SV in the first place, SV's grow as your biking experiance grows, you start of basic then when you improve you improve the bike, a mutual uprgading of ability and equipment

can you seriously disagree ?
