GSXR Mirrors on Pointy.
I've been toying with the idea for ages...
Blanking off the fairing indicators and fitting gsxr mirrors... So far I have this http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/02/11/y5ajenug.jpg And then this is before http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/02/11/se3u9a8e.jpg http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/02/11/asy3ymas.jpg This is in progress ... http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/02/11/yvuda6ur.jpg Oh no it's all wrong |
GSXR Mirrors - oh that topic again
I can't really see what's happening. Do you have daylight pictures?
|
GSXR Mirrors - oh that topic again
Left is original right is the gsxr on the SV mount...

Oh. I see your problem...

Is it the wirng? Cant you just drill a hole through the mount and sort it behind the fairing? |
GSXR Mirrors - oh that topic again
The angle of the dangle is all wrong... In other posts I've read that the gsxr k4 mount gives the right angle
But getting these as a pair under a tenner is becoming hard to find. |
Re: GSXR Mirrors - oh that topic again
heres what I did
http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.p...highlight=gsxr basically you need the base off a k4 gsxr and remove the base off the mirror indicators. They dont fold once they are done but work well.. |

GSXR Mirrors on Pointy.
Ok my k3/k4 mirrors arrived well packed in a load of bubble wrap... After ripping off all the wrap (while popping a few just for fun) I started work on removing the mounts from the arms...
Drilled hole in preparation (committing myself to it now) Mounted them on my bike and angled up the gsxr mounts... A bit of grinding, no wait a lot of grinding later they are in the correct shape. Off comes the angular panel to reveal the indicator wires... A bit of an **** that indicator clip to remove from the side repeater !!! But it came off in no time. Spliced into the wire, connected the gsxr indicator and a quick check they work... The rest as they say is history... Oh then it started to **** it down with rain so now I am only half way done... The other side will have to wait. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/02/18/8u4uva6a.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/02/18/te5eqagu.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/02/18/3u9avyqe.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/02/18/erehuqan.jpg What you fink folks?? |

GSXR Mirrors on Pointy.
Thanks. Only slightly disappointed that I fooked one thread a bit as I was getting rained on, but nothing a little tap won't fix :)
|
Re: GSXR Mirrors on Pointy.
Well done mate I love it
|
GSXR Mirrors on Pointy.
I like it, now the choice is to leave the original indicator or blank it off....
|
Re: GSXR Mirrors on Pointy.
Blanking originals mate
|
Re: GSXR Mirrors on Pointy.
Nice job. I'd say blank the old indicators off and clean up the look.
|
GSXR Mirrors on Pointy.
Get some flush mount indicators to fill the holes. Nice and neat whilst retaining the blinker.
|
Re: GSXR Mirrors on Pointy.
I went with the flush mount indicators as I was paranoid that cars couldn't see the indicators side on when coming out of a junction.
|
GSXR Mirrors on Pointy.
First ride with the new mirror...
Are they as good as they are cracked up to be? In a word No. Do they give better visibility - yes a little. Was it worth it, sure why not! |
Re: GSXR Mirrors on Pointy.
The flush mount inds are a good plan as you can see the flash when a bikes along side.
Every little helps |
GSXR Mirrors on Pointy.
Ok here is a step by step guide for one side
Measure once, cut twice... Or was it the other way round?? http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/02/20/buza9e7a.jpg Marked up ready to grind down http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/02/20/unu5egy8.jpg Ok, the finished article http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/02/20/qe4enudu.jpg Pick appropriate washer and rubber spacer http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/02/20/ahusyryd.jpg Put back together, drill hole for wire and feed thru http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/02/20/gymesuty.jpg http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/02/20/6a2amebu.jpg Hmm something is wrong here, what have I done??? http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/02/20/udetu4et.jpg Ah crap!! I've only gone and used the old mounts!!! So take it all apart again and use the gsxr mounts... http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/02/20/5u6abe3a.jpg Ah much better http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/02/20/y8eqyve4.jpg So there you have it folks, easy peasy. Total time about 6hrs... 3hrs per side... That was with a tea and biscuit break and messing around on the phone and tidying up :) I think I will go for side mount indies.... Anyone like to donate to my master plan?? |
Re: GSXR Mirrors on Pointy.
Top job mate looks great
|
Re: GSXR Mirrors on Pointy.
So you modified/ground down the GSXR Indicator Mirror stalks to fit the Original Mirror Mount on the SV correct?
Or is it you had to buy two different sets of GSXR Mirrors, in which parts were exchanged to fit on the SV? Can't figure out if that mount you used in the finished product is the Original SV Mount or not.. Thanks for the clarification! |
GSXR Mirrors on Pointy.
Two new sets of mirrors, k3/4 gsxr mirrors which has a different angle on the mount, gsxr k6/7 onwards with indicator mirrors.
Strip them all down, grind down the indicator mirrors and bobs your uncle. £50 all in... |
Re: GSXR Mirrors on Pointy.
Gsxr mirrors then older gsxr mounts to get correct angle as sv ones are wrong angle :-)
|
GSXR Mirrors on Pointy.
If I had to do it all over again I might try the Honda ones :)

Re: GSXR Mirrors on Pointy.
What is the primary benefit to doing it this way, rather than reusing the Original SV Stalks ?
Main thing I hope for is being able to hide the wire because its ran thru the stem with the GSXR stalk Does it matter if its from a 650/1000 or if they are OEM or not? |
GSXR Mirrors on Pointy.
Yes there is the fact that the gsxr arms hide the wire but they are also nicer than the china versions that just bolt on with no modification.
Doesn't matter which cc engine, no significant difference between oem and after market |
Re: GSXR Mirrors on Pointy.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Pair-Of-Rear...595f0a&vxp=mtr
Can anyone tell by the photos if this is the correct style mirror/mount? it says for an 03-04 1000 gsxr which checks out as 'OK' but also says 2001-2005 GSXR 600/750 which doesn't seem right and from info here would not work for this application. |
GSXR Mirrors on Pointy.
Can't tell, need side view of the mount... But at £16 delivered worth a punt
|
GSXR Mirrors on Pointy.
For those looking at doing this you need these gsxr k4 mirrors

GSXR Mirrors on Pointy.
See the mounts are a completely different angle :)
|
Re: GSXR Mirrors on Pointy.
Not having my stock mirrors off the bike its hard to see any difference.
looks like the mounts are at an angle on one side, and straight on the other |

These are stock - see the difference !? |
Re: GSXR Mirrors on Pointy.
I wish I could say I saw a difference.. them two pics above are both of the stock mount, right ? a side by side comparison would be much easier to determine.. You might as well count me as a dumb american I can't believe I can't notice the difference its a bit unnerving..
Although I did find a set of 03 gsxr mirrors that were for sure pulled off of a 600 so hopefully it'll be alright and when I have it in hand I'm sure I'll notice right away what you guys have been pointing out. Crossing my fingers |
