Just commenting on some aspects of my new bike which seem a bit odd .
Pressed metal sidestand foot - sidestand feet are usually fairly substantial solid metal !
Bottom of rear shock absorber is nickel plated pressed metal - as sidestand comment.
Rather vulnerable electrical connector and thin wiring under clutch lever.
Plastic petrol filler cap.
Still, it has a 3 year warranty so if anything fails !

Yes, the sidestand foot does look a bit flimsy (I have a 2017 Gen 3). From memory the shock lower is the same as on the previous generation SVs, so it's robust enough, and the clutch switches have always been exposed on previous generations too.

Odd that yours has a plastic filler cap, though, on mine it's metal.

The flip up keyhole cover is plastic, will check the cap again.

You could be right, I think it maybe is metal but it isn't easy to tell.

A side stand shoe should improve the pressed metal foot which is a bit harsh on my tarmac drive !
They are on ebay for about £10 (although from China which I would prefer to avoid ) The problem is elsewhere they can be several times that cost !

Yes, very true.

I bought some bits recently and opted for a UK based address to avoid a long wait and worry of parts being cheap and flimsy. They arrived with the original chinese packaging on. The seller was just buying the cheap bits in and charging three times the price for them.

Yes, I think this happens a lot on ebay. Order parts cheap from China if you can wait about a month for delivery ,or order exactly the same thing at 3 times the price from a UK address for delivery in about 3 days !

On the subject of 'made in China' , how many components on Japanese bikes are made in China anyway nowadays ? Or which parts of an sv650a do Suzuki actually make themselves ? Just a thought.

Made in Japan was thought of as cheap and nasty at one time of course !

plan view of same seat - wouldn't need the rack.
I am going to make enquiries. Did over 140 miles on the SV650A touring around The Dales yesterday and the original seat is painful.

The problem with that picture is it makes it look like a horizontal seat which, if you look at their complete bike, it isn't. This seat is aesthetically different (though not to my taste) but I doubt whether it would enhance the comfort.

In order to remove the slope from the AL7-onwards seat, you would need extra foam which would raise the seat height. Suzuki have claimed the "lowest seat height in its class" by having a steep slope to the tank and then fitting a narrow seat with little padding.

Earlier SV models had a two level rider/pillion set up which was, arguably, better since the rider's seat was more horizontal. Look at a picture of (say) a 2009 SV650S and see the difference. https://bikez.com/motorcycles/suzuki_sv650_2009.php

I found a pair of cycling shorts with the gel insert (a tenner from eBay) to be an effective solution to SV @rse-ache. I can do 2+ hour stints quite comfortably now, which is as far as you'd want to go before needing a coffee / fuel / slash anyway.

I've got a gel seat and it is very sloped. While the gel is comfortable, I'm sure - I spend most of the time sat on my balls.

Adding extra foam and therefore raising the seat height looks exactly what c-racer have done to their seat .if the front is about level with the rear as it appears.

1 hour maximum before a slash is the critical thing for me. Will have to give the cycling shorts a try , if I can go for an hour comfortably before a stop that should do for me.

The c-racer seat is 30mm higher than the original Suzuki SV650A seat apparently, if anybody is interested.

Personally, I didn't like the design, but each to his own.

If I were to buy an aftermarket seat I'd go for either the Bagster:
https://www.silverstonemotor.com/en/...dle-5367z.html

or the Holeshot Performance:
http://www.holeshot.com/suzuki/sv/20...etfighter-seat

The guy at Core motorcycle seats (that did my seat) is a rider and will discuss your requirements. Having owned a Core seat for almost 4 years, I now know what I'd change if there's a next time.

My Z900RS has the low seat option which means they took out the foam. Getting off the Zed and onto the SV is like sitting on a cloud (no, not cold and damp - soft).

I've got the Suzuki "Tuck and Roll" seat, I think the general consensus is any improvement in comfort over the stock seat is fairly marginal.

I find it absolutely fine comfort wise and would rate comfort better than stock, but then I appear to be in the minority by having also found the comfort of the stock seat ok.

Main issue I had with the stock seat was I found it too low and the "Tuck and Roll" option seems to add just enough extra height (somewhere between 5 and 10mm).

I also prefer the look so was pleased to be able to pick up an immaculate used one on ebay for around half the new price of circa £200.
