Diablos
Well - there's nothing here yet so here goes.
Pirelli Diablos. I think they're good. :) |
They're the dogs danglies, mate! As good as, if not better, than the 010/020 combo. I've run them on the road, on the track and on the wettest day ever, and they were perfect. I'd recommend them.
|
I can confirm that Diablo's are an excellent choice of tyre.
got mine fitted this sat AM went for a little jaunt carlisle, brampton, aslton, HARTSIDE  ,penrith keswick, caldbeck, carlisle. did hartside 6 times cafe to melmerby bit just to scrub em in you know  did have one heartstopper new tyres, damp road, too much throttle on the edge of grip back end stepped out i rolled off when she gripped again standing me up and running slightly wide   had to give it big left hand push to sit her down whilst ducking to avoid the discovery's drivers mirror. quick pullover to side of road and 2 fagged it whilst i gathered meself  anyway motto of above don't Scrub em in on damp roads  got off the mountain :) into sunnier terrain and had some really good toe down action. Today "sun" took her up to kielder via cannonbie and newcastleton had some really good fun up there and over the north east. one thing though,.... the profile is SOOOO round compared to the dunlops/ bridgestones it takes some hellish leaning to get them to the edge. i mean you have to be dragging the footpegs and still not on the ragged edge (REAR) the front is however right there. try some they live up to the devil inside you (and even have little trident marks on the edge of the tyres) Nice touch wonder how long they will last though  |
Diablo's - well I like em
The Pirelli Diablo’s use the same steel carcass as the original Metzler tyres fitted to the early K1’s. This type of carcass copes with the torque of a V twin better than a fabric one. In my opinion the rigidity of the steel is what makes the tyres so stable over white lines and ridges.
The Diablo has a stickier compound than the old Metzler M4 this gave me 8,000 miles on the back tyre. I’m hoping the Diablo rear tyre will last for 6,000 miles like its predecessor the Metzler M3. Have had a set of these since August last year and am pleased with the grip. On a fast run out they got too hot and started to feel jittery, checked the tyre pressure when I got back home and it was about 9 lb below the standard 33 lb front 36 lb rear. Have increased the pressure to standard and they have never given me any scares over the last 2,500 miles. They seem to heat up quick but I always take it easy first thing when it’s cold, so how do I rate them - 5 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) . |
I got some fitted first thing Friday morning. After a couple of hundred miles around devon and cornwall over the weekend, they are nicely scrubbed in now.
However... Quote:
So far, I think they are good tyres. If I change my mind I'll let you know! |
Briefly had a set of diablos on, till the rear got punctured and replaced...
Would recommend them |
Just an update :
the tyres are performing Excellently consistant dry and wet grip, I can honestly say I have not noticed any degredation through heat (8 hours in the saddle on sunday and not one moment). the tyres are proving to be a good choice for myself, and have on occasion kept me on the bike where others would have failed. Rock steady at any speed (even over white lines). they turn in wonderfully quick and change direction with laser like precision. to be honest I think they are about the best rubber i have installed on any bike (and there have been plenty of different ones used) nearest to them I would say dunlop D208's, although the 208's didn't grip quite as well in the wet. |
I share all of the same opinions on these tires as Amarko5.
However, I'm nearing the end of my Diablo's lives... at 3500 miles :? . Much of my riding is weekend thrashing on some of Wisconsin's finer twisty roads, so I did expect this. I don't think it's possible to wear the rear tire (160 width) to the edge, or at least it's not safe. I've heard reports of trackday riders saying the profile on the edge is too steep - the tire will slide out before you can reach it's edge. |
Sorry I just can't agree with this:
'I don't think it's possible to wear the rear tire (160 width) to the edge, or at least it's not safe. I've heard reports of trackday riders saying the profile on the edge is too steep - the tire will slide out before you can reach it's edge.' As a trackday addict who rides an SV650 in the fast group and whose lap times are within MiniTwins times I have have taken Diablos right to the edge no problem at all - even to the point where I am grinding away my fairing and side stand at an alarming rate. I have found them perfect for trackdays but like any tyre with the heating up and cooling down cycle on trackdays their performance will go off a bit. After about four hard trackdays the rear has stepped out (most probably me being ham fisted with the throttle) but they have slid and regained grip predictably - unlike Avon Azaros which hi-sided me once. From what I have read about these tyres it appears they have a very wide operating temperature so it does not matter how slow or fast you are, on the road or track they give fantastic grip. |
I think it'd depend a lot on the way your bike's set up- on standard suspension with Metzeller M1s- same profile- and 33/36 psi I had about 1mm of chicken strips at the front but 9mm at the rear. With the lower front, higher rear and better suspension, my newer Roadtexs are just about equal. But I've still not taken either to the edge :)
The SV's rear wheel pinches a 160/60/17 tyre slightly as well doesn't it? |

3,500 miles just starting to flatten in the middle about 2 to 3 mill left on tread.
wearing quite well considering |
Yep my Diabloslasted me over 5000miles the first set and under 5000miles the second. I've now switched to Met Roadtecs for the winter, Rictus raves about em.
lets see how they fair on the 'thou |
Just put on a set of Diablos to replace my M1s. Got 5000 miles out of the M1s and the Diablos are meant to be a slightly harder compound so I'll have to see. Feeling good so far though.

I've just had a set of Diablo corsa's fitted on my Blade last week , only done a few hundred miles on them but well impressed with so far . Came though the New Forest Sunday night about the quickest ever, normally the roads though the forest are quite slippy this time of year at night, but the level of grip i got was just superb ! Felt totally confident in them in no time. One of the reasons i went for them is that they heat up so quickly and give great grip which i think is essential this time of year and they are meant to be excellent in the wet to . I know they might last as long as other tyres but for me grip is everthing especially this time of year . I'll let you know how i get on with them over a longer period, but initial impressions - superb !
|
Corsas are a different tyre though aren't they? IIRC Pirelli recommend them for road and track use
|
Yes Corsa's are slightly different, i belive they are more 'sporty' than normal Diablo's. You can also get 'super corsa's which are basically cut slick's ie track tyres . I have a mate who is using them on his CBR600RR and is an ex racer and does loads of track days and he loves them, and I've ridden his bike with them on and was well impressed with them myself . I belive the Diablo's have a certain amount of silicon in their compound and this allow's them to heat up very quickly. The other thing i've found with the corsa's is the amount of feedback i was getting back , particularly from the front end, i could really feel the road surface and what the bike was doing, which when you've got a 140 ponies to play with is kind of handy  . I think this might have had something to do with my somewhat er 'rapid' progress  on Sunday . My mates on the Honda forums site have been raving about them and i can now see why .
Shame i never tried them on my SV when had her but would imagine that if you like good hard riding , with with tyres that give you loads of confidence then Diablo's/Corsa's would be worth considering . |
Don't think you can get super corsas in SV sizes- I'm looking at a Corsa for my spare front wheel, or mebbe a Rennsport or similiar.
|
The Rennsports are the other tyre that my mates on the Honda site rave about, meant to be excellent as well .
|
I've only heard one person say bad things about either, and that was a Kwak rider who was trying to blame his incompetence on his tyres :)
|
Kwak riders
|
M1 Sportec = Diablo Corsa
Rennsport = Diablo Super Corsa Basic guide I got from a tyre tech that works with both. That's why I've gone to the Diablo, it's meant to be a bit harder than the M1. |

Nice but exspensive. Cheers Mark. |

I know a guy who races in th eMinitwins and he offered me a set of part worns for my trackday. He gets three heat cycles out of them before they don't work properly any more (1 session per heat cycle!) and he reckons that after another (or perhaps two more) heatcycles & they would be shagged any way! This is on race tarmac (smooth as hell!!) with relatively short races! :? Mind you, he swears by them & even tried a set on his GSX R600... The rear hed lunched itself in under 1000 miles on the road!! |
Got these fitted last night.
Had a scary moment this morning when a car changed lane unexpectantly. I grab a hand full of front, it locked and slid, I instantly released and the front regripped. I like  Not bad considering they only have 20 miles on them. |
Just got back from Brands Hatch where I saw Leon Haslam put his Ducati on pole.
On the way back I was really in BSB mode and went flat out. These tyres really do make the bike feel planted and so far I am loving them. Down to 1cm chicken strips on the rear and 3mm on the front. The slip road from the A406 onto the A13 is really great too  |

Though I don' thtink they do Supercorsas in the stock SV sizes do they?
|
diablo
I run diablos on the trumpy 8) , love the grip, :D but the roads are a bit rough where i live .Only done 3700 km and i'll be lucky to get 500 more  .Cant folt the grip though, but at $330 a tyre for a 190/50/17. I was kind of hopeing for a bit more milage.I brought a set of bridgestone battlax bt56r's of the trademe nz web site for $150 still with there dimples on them.So if they dont work out & give me the same grip  , ill just have to bite the bullet & get me some more diablo's. :P :D

Just an update to my earlier posts on the Diablo's . I,ve now had them on for quite a while and so far i've done about 3.6K on them which is pretty damn good i'd say especially on a blade with a 190 rear , and riden pretty hard  .
Well i can't speak highly enough of them . Just come back from a weekend in France ( went to the Moto GP at Le Mans) which was pretty wet at times . The grip was just amazing i felt so confident in the wet i could ride almost as i would in the dry with the levels of grip i was getting . I was more than happy to lean the bike over and hang off as normal , quite happily use loads of engine braking and spin the back up and the bike was just as steady as normal :D Whilst coming back in the wet , Lee and myself were having great fun at outbraking ourselves at roundabout's , ie scrubbing off 90/100 mph and 2/3 gears in no time in the wet and the tyres didn't complain at all , SUPERB ! These are without doubt the best tyres i've ever used and would recommend them unrservedly , and considering that i've done 3.5k and still got a fair amount tread left then i would say they are pretty damn special . I've tried Avon's , Metzeler's and Bridgestone's (010's , 020's @ 014's) and these are without doubt the best of the lot . Part of the reason i got them is for winter riding . Conventional thinking say's get a harder wearing tyre as you won't be riding as hard due to road conditions , b"ll*cks to that i say  When the roads are at there most slippy you want more grip not less , and a tyre that heats up very quickly . Ok so maybe you don't as many miles as some other tyres BUT a new set of tyres is a lot cheaper than a new set fairing's / Levers / etc . Seeing the amount of people falling off this winter on the site , particularly on cold tyres then i would definitely recommend getting a softer better gripping tyre ESPECIALLY in the winter . Needless to say i'll be sticking to the Pirelli's when i put new tyres on , might even put a super Corsa on the front and a Corsa on the back . The only other tyre i'd like to try at some point would be the new Avon Viper AV59/60's which are meant to be the dog's dangies . |
