K4 Heel Plates???
 

Mine are scuffed too hell so I fancy some new ones but seem to have a problem!

The off side (back brake) is just bolted on to the rearset and is easy to remove, but the near side seems to be part and parcel of the rearset??? Is anyone else's K4 like this, if so what have you done???

I hadn't actually realised that, but now I've had a look I'm not really sure what you can do about it.
I was planning on polishing mine up, can't be bothered now.

They are the same, indeed.
Cost, would be my best guess, and possibly so that you have to buy the whole hanger if you damage it.

I'm picking up a damaged K4 tomorrow. Will have a look at the mountingplates and heel guards and see what state they are in.

Mike, are you anything to do with minitwin engineering as I've just won a R/H heel plate on eBay, but can't get an answer to a mobile or email? :(

:?: Might you not equally ask why they are sometimes separate pieces? There's no good reason for producing it either way, one is as good as the other, Suzuki, or indeed any other maker, doesn't make bikes with tarty bits and add-ons in mind.

Forgot to say: Some people with K3 onwards have polished and drilled a pattern of holes in their heelplates, making them look more like those found on most sportsy bikes.

Does anyone have pictures of polished heal plates? Is this something you could do on your own? Thanks,

That's what I've been considering doing, my heel plates are looking very tatty already.

Try again next week as minitwin-engineering.com will probably be packing up ready for snetterton this weekend. If you have any problems let me know.

Will dig through my spares bucket on Sunday and have a look. If I forgtet give me a kick early next week.

Here is a better pic I also filled in all the holes with rubber grommets to tydy up the look of the hangers.

That's why I'm trying to spare ones, so I'm not off the road while I polish them up (and now drill them as well :evil: ) Any chance of buying some of your grommets or a pointer to where I can get them?

I am sorting out the grommet kits now. I just need to get the swing arm pivot point ones right for the 650 then i will be adding the kits to my web site. All the others i have sorted. I will have a new donar 05 650 to play with tomorrow.

How did you polish your healplates? I was thinking either a polish or a wire brush? I guess it will depend on what they are made out of? And did you just use a drill press and drilled them from the back? I amp hoping this is an easy mod I could do for little costs... ;) Thanks,

After seeing Chewys heelplates I decided to polish mine over the weekend, I started off using a 600 grit wet and dry paper with plenty of water followed by 800, 1000, then finished off with a polishing kit, the results were a superb mirror finish, didnt have the confidence the drill them, might take them a machine shop to get them to do it.

Manxsv, do you know what material they are made out of? And one healplate, you need to remove the whole rearset, correct?

Think it will be Aluminium, I removed mine to polish they are easy enough to take off and put back on

Naw... I wanted to do this on my own cause it was cheap. Not content on spending 60 bucks + shipping on those. Thanks anyways,

Won't fit a K3 onwards, as the heelplates are integral with the footrest hanger.

I have started sanding my healplates with a 600 grit wet/dry sand paper. It is taking awhile, is there any other methods I could use? I can always polish the plates with this paper after, but it seems as the finish (Paint?) isn't coming off very easy. Thanks,

Try rubbing them with Sidi Black Rains. Works for me :(

When I had my SV I got a sheet of stick-on carbon-look plastic and cut out the shape of the heelplates and stuck it on. It looked good and didn't scuff up at all and if it did start to look tatty you could just peel it off and stick some more on! Too much blue peter as a child I think :?

As said in an earlier post, use abrasive paper but start with a more corse sheet, something like P240 and gradually work up.

Save your well needed arm muscles for other rapid movement activities. :D

Well I finally got around to getting some coarser sand paper to sand my rearsets. I then used a Mother's Polish to shine things up. Here are some pictures of the finished product:

I used the carbon look sheeting on the heel plates. I also put some on the top yoke too. Obviously I cut them to shape and they don't look too bad.
The polished one look very nice, but will it last?

Look ok but next time you may wish just to remove the old anodising on the raised parts leaving the silver in between in those hard to get to and polish areas Will look a little more trick if you do it carefully. You could also opt for the drilled look I think I put to many holes in mine I have since seen one done with about 5 in each side but larger wish I had done it that way it’s to late now.
