naked or faired
Hi I am going to buy an SV, could I have your good points and bad points for faired or not?
Thanks. :? |
one is faired, the other is not...
|
I have an unfair one (curvy) which I think looks alot nicer than the faired one. Disadvantage is no wind protection which isn't a problem because I don't do silly speeds. The newer pointy model looks much better than the old curvy when faired IMO.

Thanks
Thanks JakeRS, even I gathered that, perhaps you could have been more helpful.
Can you advise me on bulbs for the front lights?????????????? LOL |
i've owned both.
faired: good points: easier to hang off more comforytable at speed due to wind protection better in rain for the same reason higher top end speed than the naked bad point: more 'racing' body position means arm ache slower acceleration than the naked costs more costs more to drop! naked: good points faster acceleration more up right body postion means easier to see over cars easier to get the front wheel of the ground cheaper if droped and to buy bad points: lower top end getting battered by wind takes it tole after a while maybe not so easy to get ur knee down (maybe) choose what suits ur riding. donmt go on what poeple think looks better or worse as ull just suffer. anyway, no one on here agrees about looks. some people even think thge old shape SV's look better  |

Hi French,
To be honest, it depends entirely on what you want to do with it   I bought my Naked for commuting to work and tackling urban traffic - which it does perfectly. It also gives me a lot of fun on sunny weekends too! If you want to chuck something around traffic, weave about, and have good visability - get a Naked. If you want to have something for main roads, longer or faster journey's, and generally for use out of traffic, then get a faired. |
As others have said it depends what your going to do with it, what riding position you prefer and what style you most like. The best thing to do, is take both for a test ride and find out which most suits you.
|
easy...do you want to look like Jessie Mach or Mark Fowler?
:-) |
to be honest, i think, with a bike like this, and the speeds it does, it doesnt really matter if it is faired or not, it doesnt take much more top end off, and plus a naked tends to build you up a bit more.
i personll think that the naked looks better, more streetfighter like. but like everyone else says, its all down to personal taste. but do remember, if you do get teh faired, get soem very good crash protecters, as you will be forking out a lot for the repairs. |
I bought a naked bike as I much prefer the looks over the faired, and to be honest I have no problem with it.. I do a lot of A road fast(ish) riding and the only thing that gets sore is my backside from the damn uncomfortable seat!
On my private test track I have seen 120mph with a little more to go and the wind wasnt that bad tbh... Only reason I slowed down was because my sensible side said, whoa there!  |
Thanks
Thanks to all that have replied to my original post.
I will make an informed descision when I have test ridden both. Alan |
I'd agree that it doesn't actually make that much difference. The S is still an excellent b-road/town bike, while the naked is still not bad at all at any legal speeds. S's a wee bit better for wet weather riding I think, it's nice to have a screen to hide behind- I reckon it makes a better commuter on balance, but it's not a huge difference.
So I'd say decide what bar position you prefer, and what look suits you, and go from there. Nakeds are cheaper to buy usually, cheaper to insure and cheaper to crash as well, if that's a concern. |
