Red oil ?

Just done an oil change. I decided to try something different and went for Castrol GP. 4 stroke motorcycle oil. 10W 40 with a SG API grade rating.

But it was RED is this a new thing or have I been living in the dark ages :?: :?:

Dark ages mate.

Been red for at least the last 4 years!

Maybe it was a dark amber color? All oil is some shade of amber. Maybe it was the lighting?
Or maybe, it was some sort of evil oil, distilled straight from the refineries of HELL!!

Or not.

Nope.. its red... I put it in my engine the other day... ws quite amused at the colour.. almost wanted to taste it to check it wasnt red pop! lol!

It's pretty isn't it :) And the fork oil I used was a really nice shade of blue too.

I was greasing a bearing on my brother's mountain bike with Silkolene RG2 grease, which is a nice dark red. I cleaned up with a bit of kitchen roll and went into the house with it in my hands, my brother thought I was bleeding to death :)

I did an oil change whilst a friend was there. The oil was red. 2 hours later he phoned me up "Are you sure you put oil in as Bob (a long time biker, we are quite new) has never seen red oil before"

Someone else showing concern over the red oil. Definitley oil for a bike, after checking the bottle 50 times or so!

Spokey 31-05-05 09:41 PM

Red oil

Castrol put red dye in all their bike oils so nothing to worry about at all - unless of course you've got hold of some Dexron II auto trans fluid, that's also red ... :rool:

Banana

Is there a purpose to the colour?

It makes it easier to recognise different types, its the same for most bike oils, fully or semi-synthetic. They do it with the coolant too!!
