RIP Gus Scott
 

Did anyone else catch the TT highlights on Sunday morning? Great stuff (made the motoGP that followed look like childsplay!).

However, I was saddened to hear about the death of TWO writer Gus Scott. I have enjoyed reading his stuff for many years and even have a few Performance Bike DVDs from 2002/2003 with him in it, he seemed like a very funny and likeable chap and a great rider to boot!!

Anyway, RIP Gus and to the other's who lost their lives at the TT. :(

And people wonder why I think it should be banned... Very sad.

It was a great tragety may they both rest in peace.
But both marshals and riders know the risks that go with this kind of sport.

Indeed. Very sad...

His work was always witty and well informed. He shall be missed. Sad to note that he leaves behind a 10 year old daughter. :cry:

I obviously feel very sorry for the Marshal killed in the incident - it's something that worries me when going trackside and hearing this makes it even worse. :(

That's three deaths this year that I know of (one sidecar rider too).

I've always believed serious road racers are the pinicle of riding skill, having to race without the benifits of purpose made tracks, is just awesome, having been to the island ten times I've seen nothing to change that.
I think people underestimate the true danger, and this kind of thing only highlights it.

It's not safe, and no one says it is, but then everything is a caculated risk anyway, these guys have my upmost respect and always will have.

Saw some footage of the TT yesterday and it scared the pants off me!

This was a real shock.

Road racing is a harsh world.

I was marshalling the Senior TT race (for the very first time) when it came in over the radio. There's an inquest going on to find out what exactly happened and whether it was avoidable. Very sad nonetheless. That makes 4 dead altogether (3 racers, 1 marshall). There were some pretty bad accidents that you probably won't hear about on the island involving visitors - 40 altogether according to the Manx constabularly.

Condolences to all.

Les Harah was the sidecar racer, from Brough, near Hull. Where I used to live. He was related to some friends of the family, although my brother knew Les well.

They do know the risks, and to ban the TT, would be another victory for the PC brigade.

All the Jefferies family still support the TT, and many other people who have lost loved ones still race or spectate

I believe the marshall caused this accident from what Ive read on other forums. Also, she had been warned once before about crossing the road but still went across this time.

Further information will no doubt surface from the enquiry.

But my sympathies go out to both families.

There was a report in MCN about it, some of the following riders were complaining about the yellow flags for the rider that the marshall went to help not being displayed to give them enough warning

For those who may like to know, Gus' funeral is this coming Tuesday in Burneside (a mile or two from Kendal) at 1:00pm. It's a small village, so there's only one church there - I believe it's St Oswald's.
