I work with a guy who rides

Tonight he wore sunglasses under his lid, nowt wrong with that I hear you say. He had a Dark Visor on to. Now I just think that is taking the P*ss

Why taking the ****? If it's bright enough to be necessary and he's careful about lifting the visor when he goes under very shaded areas like trees or tunnels then it's not an issue.

I've done that.. but then my visor only had a 20% tint.... and it was really sunny.. and I didn't have a clear one on me.. :D

You not ridden in very bright sunshine?
Sometimes there is a point. So long as he can see where he's going I see no problem with him wearing both.

I've done it myself quite often - admittedly my visor isn't *that* dark (blue iridium - but dark enough not to be legal) - but early morning & evening when the sun is bright & low it's a godsend.

i thought that a tinted visor would havbeen enugh didnt know it was realy bright sun cos he didnt say that :?

It was just an assumption of mine, since he wouldn't be able to see where he was going if it wasn't very bright sunshine.

Just seemd pretty stupid to me, guys visor is pretty dark, compared to my iridium one and then to wear sunglasses underneath when it looked like it was going to rain due to dark clouds coming in overhead.

If the light wasn't great then it seems silly, but like I said, if he can see properly then there isn't an issue.

As far as I know, while the visor is closed, what you wear underneath is irrelevent to the law.
It's only the less sensible coppers who will object to a race visor on a sunny day and even the non-sensible ones will usually do no worse than remind you that it's illegal.

I think thats right to, But when you open your visor or wear an open face lid, then you eye protection must conform to some BS standard

I think you can get fined for a dark visor if they choose to, you wont get points on your licence for it though ( I think )

I ride with my shades on in the summer so that I can have the visor open as much as possible- at least around town when not going so fast, as one just feels so much more aware of ones surroundings (safer) and its great when the air is fresh!

You have to remember that on the internerd most people can't read between the lines.

Either that or just do what I do and assume that a few people on the forum are complete idiots, that unless something is spelt out for them in exact detail can't grasp the point.

Come on, you really thought that this thread was about a guy wearing shades and a tinted visor in non-bright sunshine conditions. lol.

I wear a dark visor when it's bright and quite often I would love to put on a pair of shades underneath due to the sunshine.

I've also been caught out when it's been dark and had to wear the dark visor, I couldn't see jack with it down. No one in their right mind would wear a dark visor and shades in non-bright sunshine conditions.

But as I said (and this isn't aimed at you personally) too many times people need things spelt out to them on forums to not assume that some people need exact detail to understand a situation.

OOH! Bad!! A friend did this and a wasp flew in! Later after he had his lid cut off by the firebrigade.....!!!! (he then put his visor down all the time!)

Does sound quite strange to me though! My visor is DARK and even in bright sun you would never need sun glasses? Wierd. Maybe they were really expensive and he didnt want to put them in his pocket? Dunno???

Don't quote me on this, but I believe eye protection is in no way a legal requirement, even without a visor (eg moto-x or open face helmets) That's why you never see people on choppers with open face lids and shades getting pulled.

When i did my training last year the instructor said "you can wear a **** pot lid and no eyewear if you like, but as soon as you put some eyewear on it MUST adhere to standard blah, blah, blah..."
