GS12 autumn makeover
 

Never happy as you know unless messing around with this and that here's some pics of the autumn makeover so far.....if anyone's interested :lol:

I've been messing with this and that for a bit and was thinking of going faux (operative word :lol: ) Gauloises blue desert racer conversion I had seen but as I prefer alloys and the desert racer was jacked up about 4 inches :shock: I thought things might not be quite right.

SO....impressed by the K1200R colour scheme of silver and black and the minimal amount of spraying required I have come up with this.

I'm still tempted by a shorter beak and maybe fill in the cuts by the roundels but thats more cash...

Subtle in a good way, too subtle...what do you reckon?

I'm liking that Dr Rich, very nice, Subtle is definately the way to go 8)

The tank side panels were done professionally. I did the beak and tank cover as matt black seemed ok...ish. Matt black was an experiment and I took the view if it went crap I'd juts get them done. Its come out lovely but I think a tankbag etc will put a sheen on the matt. All the small silver bits I did myself like the infill panael with mixed success but its ok.

Dr.Rich that really is extremely understated yet so good. Are you a Ducati fan just waiting to break out by any chance? :wink: :)

Anna, I picked that seat up secondhand. As its one piece you can move around more and although a little higher its easier to get one leg down* properly as its a more conducive shape. Also I reckon it looks nice.

*I am unsure if its easier to get your leg over... :lol:

Maybe, maybe not depending on your idea of what's near the airport. Its on a lovely little road I found called Claverham (think) Drove which is off those lanes that run through the back of Nailsea, Chelvey, Clevedon etc. So not far away I guess as you might go up to the airport from Chelvey Batch I think????

They all run along these drainage rhynes with little stone bridges to give access for the cattle and sheep. Most are smooth but one of them undulates like a wave it is so bumpy. I'll have to take some of you SVs and sportsbike riders along it one day...its is hilarious and I would imagine sore :shock: :lol: I remember some complaints of similar roads between Glastonbury and Cheddar last time around :lol:

Unsure tbh. I quite like the look of the stock can compared with most replacements which are somewhat ordinary looking IMO*, and I hate the Akrapovic twin shotgun system. Apparently there's also a lot of lean running problems with systems such as the Remus and power gains are dubious*. Having said that the BOS system doesnt seem to cause running lean and I cant see why.
**uninspiring looks and no negligible gain for lots of cash? It looks like you need full system plus powercommander to get anywhere and then we are talking lots of money.

Also tbh it sounds not bad as it is. I'm mostly happy with all other aspects of the bike, except the looks needed a tweak :lol: :lol:

17inch wheels has gotta be your next step. Supermoto that GS...

Having said that, it certainly wasn't cheep and I can't remember which other BMW wheels match up...

Yes it needs the wheels off an ST, some sticky rubber, a BOS exhaust, and some serious cam/head work by one of the German tuning firms. Then, in a real world situation, it'd be almost unbeatable :wink: . Won't come cheap though.

Got to agree with the tyre point.Get some sporty one's on a GS and from what I have read you will have one hell of a bike. The handling limitations offered by the normal GS tyres just deprive the owner of so much more. :wink:

lovely bike fella. done a sweet job there, i also dislike going to far with bike mods less if defo more.

Unfortunately the best tyres available for the GS are 020s (and even then the compound is a little harder I believe), and this is due to the wheel/rim sizes. Swap over the wheels from the ST (17" wheels with 180 & 120 profiles) and you could put on whatever you fancied. I'm amazed that BMW can't see that a lot of peeps out there want a supermoto/real-world bike and not an off-road pretender.

Doing what I want to do to a GS would probably mean an extra 5k on top of the purchase price, which makes it one hell of an expensive motorcycle.

*Note to self, pull your finger out and work harder :lol: .

Now that Lichfield is out of the way opens up no doubt many possibilities for you?!

Just out of interest mate,are you getting interest from bikers wishing to buy your pics? Do you have one of those sandwich board things telling them in advance that you are there? If not how can they get themselves ready fo a pose as they pass you?

It's been ticking over quite nicely sir

not in a position to pack my day job in though :lol: but it makes enough to buy the odd bit for the camera or bike.

next year when the season starts I will be advertising a lot more (this year it was basically word of mouth and a few little fliers at the cafe and in the local bike shops.

If you read the feedback I think people are genrally satisfied with the product.

No, there are considerable differences. Dr Rich is obviously a man of motorbicycle couture. There may be many tiny details but it's the details that make the difference :wink: .

Its sooooo subtle, that i had to look about 10 times to actually notice it! Personaly dont see the point of changing a bike that new, but its your money i suppose. Now, get rid of the 1923 design engine, and you'll be onto a winner

Very nice looking bike you've got there, Rich. You've done a good job on it. The new colour scheme is excellent - makes me wonder why BMW don't paint them them like that to start with.

Very subtle indeed. Had to read subsequent posts in order to notice
the subtle mods.

But the real question is how does Dr Rich keep it so clean? I might have
understood if the bike was clean on one photo, but clean on different
photos taken on different days? Just can't fathom this!

Lost my appetite as a result and will have to do some marking to
occupy my time.
