Anyone fitted one of these to an SV?
 

Since riding my SV with the fairing off in the middle of repairs a while back, I've been hankering for a futuristic styled cafe racer. Naked bikes have never really appealed to me before, but for some reason I really liked the "naked with clipons" feel. Not to mention the increased sense of speed that made even legal speeds enjoyable.

The idea was put to the back of my mind as one of those things to do, "In a couple of years time, when I have a bit more money." Possibly on an SV1000, or, if I win the lottery, a TL engined, Harris framed special... However, with my existing headlight fairing being damaged and an insurance payout imminent, I thought, "Why not now?"

Having seen a special in Streetfighters a couple of months back with this sort of cockpit fairing, I immediately fell in love with it.

Naturally, by fitting one of these over the more substantial stock fairing I'm sacrificing some weather protection/practicality for fun/looks, but I'm wondering if it'd be easy to put this on for the summer then put the bike "back to stock" when winter comes again.

I've done some fairly extensive googling, but can't find out much about this fairing and certainly haven't seen one fitted to an SV. Just wondering if anyone here has got a photo of one?

My main concern is the headlights. "Durable plastic fairing unit with twin vertical mounted lamps (12v 20w bulbs,) set behind protective dome." Will this mean I can't run 55/60Watt bulbs? Would they be likely to damage the plastic/lense? Also, if I leave the bulbs that come with it in, will they seem like damp candles compared to my normal ones?

Does anyone have an idea of how easy this would be to fit to a K4 SVs? What do you reckon the re-wiring would be like?

At £35, I'm almost prepared just to buy one and see if it fits easily and sell it if it doesn't.

I've also had the same experience when I rode my brothers SVS without a fairing in the middle of repairs. In fact I liked it so much that I converted my naked SV to a modern style cafe racer first, using SVS clip-ons and doing my own rear set brackets but kept my round headlight. It looks great but the round mirrors from the stock naked look stupid and are difficult to use as you are now more forward biased and so have to do an effort to view behind.

I'm into stage two of my project and ordered a Buell Firebolt front fairing, lights and mirrors to remedy this and still have an orignal look. The fairing is quite minimalistic so it does it for me. I was still unhappy with the round headlight as I think that it doesn't go with the rest of the bike. My wife just called saying that I received a letter from the post-office saying I got the parcel with parts. **** and I'm working till 7pm and its Saturday. Will have to wait till Monday then!! ****!!

I would suspect the headlights will be pants - 20W is dimmer than a stock indicator.

If they could be uprated i'd expect that better bulbs would be fitted as stock, or not supplied at all as they would be a standard fit.

They're projectors I think... So they'll be slightly less ribbish than the numbers suggest.

NO idea what the install would be like... but it obviously does fit =).

Yuk, dont like that one....

But I do have an alien screen fitted to my curvy, looks great but I cant go out after dark. I have fitted larger wattage bulbs from tesco(12v downlighter bulbs) but it just wants to melt the cheap plastic fairing now LoL

Don't think they are.

They're like the fashionable halogen bulbs you get for your house.
They will do for getting through an MOT and to give others an idea you're there; but won't be good for actually illuminating the road.

deidn't pyramid do something similar, it was fitted tothier show Hornet a few years ago i think. I suspect the quality will be slightly better from them

I saw an SV in Pidcocks in Derby with that fairing, it looked quite good really, if you like the streetfighter look.

Hmm, the bottom two items on teh original link are for replacement bulbs, which state it's a projector... Doesn't neccesarily mean anything of course. Still most likely not very good ;) I'm nbarely satisfied with a pair of 55W/60s in mine...

Oh yeah, the Pramids one that's similiar is called the Mantis.

I know I saw an ad in one of the bike mags recently for a pattern KTM Duke 2 style headlight/screen assembly... But I couldn't find it when I went back to look for it :(

That first one is a slightly different one, made by Pyramid, I believe. I don't like the look of that one at all (although it is a bit similar). Strange how 'fighter cowls seem to be love or hate, with no middle ground. :)

That second one you linked to is the right one though. For mirrors, I think I'd probably just put a single RHS bar end mirror on it. Anyone got any experience of those on clip-ons?

Next question; I know HID lights are more energy efficient than xenon. Presumably this means they produce less heat too? I've tried searching for more info on this aspect of them, but all the hits seem to relate to the colour temperature, rather than the amount of heat generated. I know they're pricey and it'd be an extreme remedy. Just wondering if fitting a single HID bulb to the vertica fairing could be the answer?

Yes the bulbs in them are the Halogen types that you get from B&Q, and if they blow the same ammount they do in my kitchen lights, then i wouldnt bother. Mate has that fairing on his crosser, to make it 'road legal'!! Its pants.

Cant see anything past the front wheel at night, bullbs are 99p from tesco's, havent blown one yet and she has been on the road for 1 year.
