I've been rammed... but I'm OK.

After 10 years I've had my first proper road accident, I was rammed on my way to work this morning... By a Vauxhall Astra at Hindhead. Let me just get my head together and try to remember what happened and I'll add it shortly....
But just so you know I am fine and I managed to ride the GT another 30 miles to work even with the damage.

Yep. Its quite a shock when you're in an accident. Part of it is the relief that your ok and disbelief that it wasnt worse.

Glad youre ok. Get your head together, have a drink to calm you nerves (beer works great even at this time! ) and let us know the juicy details.

Ping 21-02-06 10:18 AM

hall13uk 21-02-06 10:58 AM

 oooo nasty,

still i hear scoobs is partical to a bit of rear ramming now & again  perhaps he can help you

Grinch 21-02-06 11:05 AM

Right... first the damage...

http://upload2.postimage.org/183299/DSC00761.jpghttp://upload2.postimage.org/183302/DSC00762.jpg
http://upload2.postimage.org/183308/DSC00763.jpghttp://upload2.postimage.org/183310/DSC00764.jpg

Right.. now I was filtering past the traffic at Hindhead, a rather bad traffic blackspot on the A3, I was coming up to a junction with traffic queued on the left and a traffic island and marked chevrons in the middle. I filtered round the traffic on the inside of the traffic island and then outside past a BT van. I must have been about 1 and half maybe 2 car lenght's when I noticed the car pull out. He seemed to hesitate (I was braking), then pull out again and hit me. I'm a little unsure of these details but I do have 2 witnesses. I flipped off the bike as it went down and kind of spider-ed in the road (Jax found that funny), after muttering bugger got up and helped the bloke on a BMW who had stopped pick my bike up and move it to the side of the road. Everyone was asking if I was OK and the passer by and BT van driver gave me there details. The bloke in the car asked if I was OK and gave me his details, though I think he looked a bit more shocked about it then me. Checked over the bike, made sure it was running. Took a few photos, ran the wife and my Team leader then went on my way.

The Junction in question and where I think my bike ended up.

Kate 21-02-06 11:22 AM

Nasty! But you appear to be ok and thats the main thing.

Perhaps we should have a club for SVers that have been chucked off their bikes? Hmm, maybe not as that would take most of the forum members.

huge 21-02-06 11:43 AM

Hope you are ok

bike looks ok

jambo 21-02-06 11:57 AM

Make sure the bike's ok (Though GT's are built mainly of wroght iron so may have dammaged the car more than the bike)

Glad you're ok mate, really sorry to hear this! Make sure you factor in any bike cloathing etc if you do decide to try and make a claim, but thankfully it looks like the bike's almost totally unaffected! 8)

Keep us posted!

Rides OK too, though I think the brake leaver has been knocked down a bit, the Oxford bar muffs seem to have stopped it from snaping. Just need to source a indicator, anyone got one? Else I might have a old 'huge' SV indicator that I might stick on there for now...

rwoodcock01 21-02-06 12:07 PM

****,

glad your ok though mate, make sure you feel a 100% before going home, if not get a taxi and make work pay for it.

If you still ache at all make sure you get it checked out.

Glad your ok mate!

Rich

jonboy 21-02-06 12:08 PM

Glad you're okay Dan, could have been a lot worse. Shakes you up a bit though doesn't it?

A little yes... though getting on the bike and going straight to work has helped me get over it. Made sure I carried on filtering so I don't start getting the jitters.

Yup.. going to give another look over in a sec to see nothing is leaking.

K 21-02-06 12:19 PM

Ahhh, good ol' GT's, like Timex; Takes a lickin' but still keeps on tickin'!

Glad to hear you're OK, mentally as well as physically. You're right, the continued ride into work probably helped a great deal - Just look after yourself this evening when you're safely tucked up at home. That's when the shock can really sneak up on you.

Scoobs 21-02-06 12:30 PM

Also I've found the marks on the bike where it was struck:
http://upload2.postimage.org/183831/DSC00765.jpghttp://upload2.postimage.org/183832/DSC00766.jpg
The front left engine casing and the left foot peg.

bluebell 21-02-06 01:03 PM

:( Glad you are o.k.

Professor 21-02-06 02:21 PM

Sorry to hear of your off, Grinch. :(

Glad damage to man and machine doesn't seem to be too bad.

Hope your knee doesn't get worse as a result of this accident.

Grinch 21-02-06 02:50 PM

I also forgot to say.. I was wearing, Frank Thomas armoured (knee) trousers, jacket (elbows/shoulders), gloves, a Knox back protector, caberg flip up lid, and Daytona boots. So far I have no injuries other then a little bit of a ache in my back, lets see how I am tomorrow.

Also I had a nice bright orange and yellow 'safety' vest on and this is my first (touch wood) hit in 25k+ miles.

Sid Squid 21-02-06 02:54 PM

What damage?

Looks like every other GeeTee I've ever seen.

Bad news, glad you're (mostly) OK though.

embee 21-02-06 03:17 PM

Sounds like you were lucky there, could've been a lot worse

....good protection kit too. Take it easy.

Sorry to hear about your bump, and glad that both you and the bike seem to be ok.

Do make sure you get checked out at the hospital, though, if you feel like sh*t tomorrow. Better to be sure.

Grinch 22-02-06 09:24 AM

I feel rather fine, though I do have some sorness to my right hand. Also I had to come to work in the car this morning at I couldn't get the indicator off, looks like I'm going to have to cut it off.
