Last night I cried....my poor bike! Sniff Sniff

Well, as has already been mentioned in a previous post about the "little" bit of wind that we had last night. However it would appear that it was more than a "little".

I live in Peterborough, but work in Wales and my lovely new gixxer is parked and anchored in my back garden all week until the weekend when I can give her some TLC. My wife is at home all week and looks after her, and my Staffy guards her when he's at home! However nothing could have predicted the events of last night..

MY BIKE GOT BLOWN OVER!!

Yep, that rights! Blown over. It would appear from the devastation in our little estate (climbing frames uprooted, bins banging into cars, and some trees being ripped to shreds) that we had a mini storm!

My wife rang me to tell me when it happened, was about 5ish last night. Now being 250 miles away in wet Wales didn't sit very well. Luckily the guy who lives over the road, a fellow biker, was summoned and he managed to pick my baby up and move her to somewhere less vunerable to the wind. He commented that I got away lightly with it but will need a bit spending on it to make her better!!

The damage so far it would is the following...or forgot to say that I ordered my crash bungs on Saturday but will not arrive till this weekend and it hit my lawn not concrete!..

Right side fairing dented, cracked and pierced by two bolts on the engine
Right side Wing mirror snapped
Right side Indicator snapped
Slightly dented and scratched exhaust...

<wipes tear from his eye>

*&£% it....

Unfortunately all I can do from sunny Wales is wait until Thursday night when i get home to check the damage for myself and look at the pictures my wife took with her phone that she sent me last night....

I am really worried thought that the handlebars may be bent or the steering damper may have been affected.

Do you think I am worrying unneccesarily? Could it be just a cosmetic as it seems??

Please either convince me to drive home and sort it, or put my mind at rest!!

 Sorry to hear that mate, must be gutting

Fingers crossed that the damage aint to bad

Grinch 28-03-06 10:37 AM

bad luck... that reminds me... I need to get them crash bungs sorted.

Scoobs 28-03-06 10:37 AM

Sorry to here about your bike Mr Hamilton

Mr Toad 28-03-06 10:48 AM

Wouldn't have happened if you had ridden it to Wales

northwind 28-03-06 11:20 AM

:( I remember coming out to find mine after it had been knocked over by some idiot who couldn't park... It's one thing to break it yourself, totally different to just have it happen at random.

I doubt the bars will be bent or the damper damaged, but if the bar is damaged I have a K2 750 clipon in the garage which I think is the exact same...

huge 28-03-06 11:33 AM

Bummer!

Bars are probably fine if it just fell over.

Doncha hate gravity :D and wind of course...

copper kettle 28-03-06 03:53 PM

sorry to hear it mate

Indeed.....and in a couple of weeks I do hope to. But weather is too unpredictable at the minute for biking. I am at the moment a fair weather puff however some recent end of season winter gear purchases will change that!

As for the bike....really gutted and like you guys said. Its more annoying because it wasn't anything or anyone did! Apart from Mother Nature! She's obviously not a bike fan....bet she rides a moped and keeps failing her Test!

Have had some quotes now for the bits and looking not to expensive to get her fixed. Fairing apparently can be plastic welded as its just where a couple of bolts that went through from the engine. Indicator and Wing mirror cheap enough....however may use this as an excuse to put aftermarket indi's on. Some little ones... As for the exhaust, was going to buy a new one anyway so will just speed the process up!

What a bloody nightmare but hopefully it will be fine on Thursday when i get home and may commute to work on her Friday to cheer her and me up!

medwaysv 28-03-06 05:36 PM

gutting for you hope you get it sorted soon (and cheap)

kwak zzr 28-03-06 05:46 PM

:( thats sh#t luck :(

GSXR Carlos 28-03-06 07:31 PM

i feel for you mate, the wind and rain was that heavy here last night that i got up twice just to see if my baby was ok

you'll soon have her back, good as new

UlsterSV 28-03-06 08:09 PM

You didn't really cry, did you? :?

aimhamilton 28-03-06 08:49 PM

No...but was seriously lost for words...

The wife said " You sitting down, cause I don't know how to tell you this...." I thought hey ho, divorce cometh....but no...."You know we having this storm....well...it's sorta blown ya bike over"

PANIC ENSUED!!

Worst case scenario running through my head, bike trashed, everything *^cked and thats it.....no more riding for a while! Genuinely gutted....think being away didn't help

Oh well...done now and tings are looking up. If its cheap to sort, nothing bruised too much other than wallet!

Thank god for my back lawn....

Have already set aside most of Saturday to get her fixed and fit my crash bungs!

fizzwheel 28-03-06 09:00 PM

bummer that sucks, sounds like the damage wasnt to bad though

Hope you get it fixed easily enough

Saint Matt 28-03-06 09:02 PM

Gutting to hear that mate, at least you didn't kick it over, like my dad did with his sv, we went on a ride and he came home a few minutes before me, I pull in to see his bike in a flowerbed. Not a scratch on it either, if I'd dropped mine in there it would have been wrecked. I doubt you will have bent your bars mate, and I seriously doubt there will be any damper damage, they are designed to stop tankslappers, a lot more force than falling onto a lawn :)

Don't forget there is 20% off suzuki parts at the moment, as advertised on the suzuki GB website! You'll cry even more if you find this out after you've ordered (l ike me! :( )

Useful stuff though to help provide the friction for the tyres to get round corners and to put the power down.

Can anyone recommend somewhere to perhaps get aftermarket smaller indicators? I like the clear diamond shaped ones? I want to get this ordered ready for the weekend?

Also, do Gerickes do R&G crash bungs or are these a generic brand? If so, I may cancel my order for them and get the R&G crash bungs from somewhere? Suggestions where would be great too?

Thanks as always

Andy

I got my R&G bungs from hein gericke, so they definately do them... not sure if you have to specify that you want R&Gs or anything though (I went in specifically asking for R&Gs anyway so I don't know if they do any others)...

According to Motrax they sell 'em at Infinity in Peterborough

northwind 30-03-06 06:02 PM

Motrax's minis are the best out there at the moment, I reckon. They're still not very long lasting, but the actual reflectors etc are far better in Motrax ones than in the generics or Oxford ones.
