Recommend me some rear-sets

Due to the following:
http://www.visordown.com/forums/showthread.php?t=259232
I now need a new gear lever… but I figured that as I was going to get rear-sets at some point anyway, I may as well get them now, rather than shelling out for an OEM rip-off gear lever for the short term.

I'll look at anything, so fire off your recommendations. The one proviso, is that I must be able to get it delivered by Friday… but if they are especially nice I may be prepared to wait. Links to pictures if possible would be nice.

Cheers, Matt.

Oh... it's a 2000 model, fared.

I like Woodcraft, personally... Non-adjustable but you can choose the peg height when you get them. Nicely put together... Don't have any myself mind, but I will do I think.

Flamin_Squirrel 18-04-06 09:45 AM

Gilles. Best or not I couldnt say, but they're fully adjustable and very robust (ie, they dont break when you crash  )

the oaf 18-04-06 10:36 AM

Thanks, but they're all a little less elegant than I was hoping for. I'm sure they do the job, but they do all look like someone let Stevie Wonder loose with the "Mechano".

Thinking about it now, as I'm 6'2", I don't think rear-sets would be practical for me on an SV… and to be honest, the only thing spoiling the look of the pegs area at the moment are the cheapo levers.

Anyone know if you can but aftermarket gear and rear brake foot levers?

Yep they do. Well mine did twice.

First time it broke the back plate in half & toe peg, second time the bearing bit broke.

Matt..I remember reading that unfortunate incident. Did you manage to trace the owner of the poor victim in the end? :?

No, but the body disappeared less than an hour later, so either it wasn't dead, just very badly injured and stunned (but I don't think so), or it was found and collected either by the owner, or someone who knew who it belonged to; or by the council (I did report it when I originally got home).

Hopefully, the owner knows by now.

I've got Gilles on the Blade - mainly because having one leg shorter than the other it's handy having adjustable ones.
Just makes my bike damn awkward for anyone else to ride though!

One good thing about Gilles is that they sell all the components, even down to single screws, separately. So if you do need to replace a part it's alot easier/cheaper than Harris.

Its still dam expensive.

Toe peg, abt £15
Gear lever bearing £48
Back plate, somthing like £30..

If you brake one peice ok ish, but the main bits are very expensive.

Unfortunatly bling costs money.

Cost isn't an issue. Got any links?

Harris sell individual parts too, you just need to phone them up and speak to them. So do Woodcraft for that matter... Most manufacturers will, but it can be hard to find a source sometimes.

I just remember at work trying to get a couple of parts out of Harris and it was a nightmare. They led us to believe that they were only selling them to us because we were a dealer.

Might depend on their mood then ;)

For gilles bits.

Apex Lesure
Proformance Parts

I knew that both did parts, i ordered from Apex but the packet still had the preformance parts logo behind the label to me.

I think I've found a winner:

Now, does anyone know a UK distributor for Valtermoto, who would have them in stock?

PDQ sell them in the UK

I've got the basic Valtermoto on my race bikes, quite like them.
May get them for my road bike when I got a bit of cash.

They seem to crash fairly well with the cheapest bit breaking generally - so the peg rather than the hanger etc.

They do do adjustable ones as well, but I'm poor :).
Cost me £30 to get a brake lever bit with peg etc - basically everything for the right hand side, bar the hanger!

Had a quick look, but it doesn't look like PDQ bother with the type 3's for the SV.

BILLY 18-04-06 05:38 PM

You'll need a banjo bolt brake light switch as well to get your bike through an MOT!!!!!

Robw#70 18-04-06 05:39 PM

They can get them to order, think they're mainly doing the type 2.5's which are the latest, they do so many now they've gone for the most popular as stock.

Good thing with type 1's is they're cheap enough to buy another set to keep you going and rebuild the damaged ones as spares

BILLY 18-04-06 05:47 PM

Look on the net http://www.hein-gericke.com/uk/

I loved the look of the older PP tuning rearsets:
http://www.fasterbydesign.co.uk/prodhuge/160.jpg

These were fully adjustable with 3D adjustment, allowing an extensive number of adjustments as well. They were only £180 so very good value.

It seems that these are no longer in production as the only ones on the PP Tuning website are very different, but they should still be cheap.

Edit: Just found that Ermax UK are doing them for £169.99 plus postage, with the 3D style still available for the curvy SV, not bad at all, click here.

I've got the valermotos, pretty good they are. Got them for £45 on flea bay.
