JADE GOODY DOIN THE MARATHON
 
Did you see her!

I was lyin in bed with me hangover ! and she was interviewed with Gordon Ramsey- BOY he was not happy with her- when she declared.

" I AINT DONE NUFFIN TRAININ- I DONE HARF AN HARR ON A TREADMILL.. I AD A PERSONAL TRAINER AN TOLD IM I MIGHT NEED IM TO GET FIT AFTER SO I DI 2 HOUR SESSIONS THEN ARF AN HOUR ON THE LAST ONE AND AD ADD ENUFF MAAYTE.."

Gordon ramsey said she had crap normal trainers on - she said I play netball in these they is commmfeee!

then when asked what time she wanted to do and said 4 hours - Ramsey nearly swore and said no chance!..more like TUESDAY !!

Then to compound it all she said I aint dieted neever--- I 'ad kebabs and curry and beer..!!!


OK- point being- I like the girl- all power to her and she has done well from a bad background BUT- is this takin the ****!-- people train and train and apply for the marathon and dont get accepted- she is clearly not capable but is high profile....!
so is she publicity



mind u- as I type she is on at halfway point- so she doin ok..... commentator saying she doing well in her tenniss trainers and this must be the first time she has passed photographers without stopping !!

She didn't finish. Irritates me - she took a place that many others would have used well. It's damn hard work running a marathon, and this sort of stupidity simply cheapens everyone else's achievement.

I can understand people rolling their eyes at the antics of this wretched girl and am thankful that I have not seen as much of her as you would have. however I do take issue with Ed's comments. I think her failure in the event only heightens the awareness of the training and effort that those magnificent people put in to complete a marathon. It does not in my mind cheapen their efforts at all.

Ok some individuals who would have approached the whole event a lot more seriously might have missed out on entering this time.But do you imagine that they would have generated as much attention to the event or attracted as much sponsorship as Jade did? I doubt it.

Even if she did not finish I am sure she has raised plenty for charity even on a "per mile" basis. Let us not forget that the main reason for this event is for the generation of funds to charitable causes and so once again some of you need to climb down off those high horses of yours. Again the ORG and it's magnificent culture of judgementalism.

As daft as a brush as that girl is...I personally say good on you for at least stepping up the plate.

I have no embarrassment at all about being on my high horse.

I disagree that the main point of doing a marathon - any of the big ones such as London and New York included - is to raise funds for charity.

In each of the four marathons I have done my aim was to do the best I could and to finish. And finish them I did. I also had a target time in mind too. In 3 of the 4 races I beat the target, in 1 I missed it. In 2 of the races I did some fundraising.

Jade Goody admitted that she did no training - if she had had enough after a few hours on a treadmill, how did she think she'd finish within 4 hours??? And wearing her tennis shoes, she couldn't even be bothered to go and buy a suitable pair of Nikes.

And in the races where I did get sponsorship - believe me, it's even harder than doing the race. Disappointed runners who don't get in through the ballot can always get a 'golden bond' place - i.e. you pay a charity for one of their places by agreeing a minimum sponsorship. So many do because they so want to run, and this is what I did when I ran in New York in 2002. You feel exhausted from months of training, it's not easy to churn out 16, 18, 20, 22 milers weekend after weekend as a training run, and then you have to hawk your sponsorship form round and collect the money. Look at the relatively poor results when people on here have asked for sponsorship. I only managed to get £1500 for Cancer Research because my then employer, HBOS, was very very generous in matching what I raised myself.

Perhaps Jade Goody did better financially than she did athletically - I have no idea.

And insofar as the relevance of quote from Roosevelt - well reread it and see who you think it fits better - a self publicist who admitted to doing no training or a committed runner who struggles to get fit enough over a period of many months and then gives it his or her best shot.

Judgemental? Oh I don't think so.

Ed..Having experience of training and running distance races myself I understand what you are saying. However the marathons that you mention have never been solely for the more serious athlete. In fact if you took away the "fun" runners then the number of participants would be reduced massively. I feel that is definitely the case as apart from say, Olympics or world championships when would you ever get the number of television viewers or spectators lining the route or paying that kind of interest in a running race? If it was not for the colour and novelty that the less serious runners bring to the event.
Simply because your view on participation differs from another persons,does not to my mind make yours the only one that is worthy of the name.

It is one of my biggest regrets that I never trained for a marathon. I did though run many half marathons and all of these were run the day following a rugby game in which I had either played wing forward in union or second row in rugby league. Try that one day Ed! :wink: :P

You see as I mentioned in my first post,I fortunately do not have to put up with seeing this specimen on a regular basis like you folks and so my defending her comes from another perspective.

However I do think that Spidey's comments are rather uncalled for in a drama queen kind of way! :wink: :P

Think what you like guys and gal's they are only famous because people make them that way. If nobody was interested in the Jades/Paris Hiltons they wouldn't be famous. It's sad but it's true, you can't really blame the individuals nor the press, you can only blame the millions that buy/watch them.

And to wish somebody dead for having press time is very out of order. To dislike someone intensly is one thing, to wish them dead. . . . . . . . . .get a life :roll:

I see your point Viney and accept it. I watch mindless drivel on telly at times for escapism too so how could i den others this simple joy.

But it does harm me when i hear that annoying cows voice at 8am on the news when i'm trying to get ready for work. I didnt invite her into my bedroom. The news studio chose to do that for me. If she didnt exist, they wouldnt have her there sneakily getting into my bedroom in the mornings.
But i also appreciate they would have another equally annoying person there if she didnt exist.

You have a volume control and a on/off button. Theres also good childrens tv on BBC2 in the morning ;)

Joking apart she has done very well to get to 18 miles.....which is when the dreaded "wall" kicks in even for those that HAVE trained.

do you honestly think it was her idea to do the marathon??

i doubt shes capable of putting the thought process together, more likely some sad ass PR firm she employs though it would be good for her profile.

Jade is a symbol of everything that is wrong with our society, sets an example that it doesnt matter how hard you work, if you get lucky you can have it all, and people actually admire her for the fact that someone so pointless can be so popular does not bode well for our futures me thinks.

Well apparently she err "ran" on behalf of the NSPCC,who always have a good number of well known people representing them. Jade did actually offer to particpate for them. A good chance missed really as the charity does have a team of people on hand to offer all kinds of guidance for those looking to enter in to the race.

Maybe she just thought it would all be a bit of a laaaarf?! :wink: :P

Ah but does not "luck" play a major part in all of our lives? How lucky was she before she came in to the public domain? Not very from what little I know of her. Most of us have been dealt a bit more luck in other ways,that's just how it goes.

But to suggest any person's demise purely because they do not come up to your own expectations is fundamentally wrong in my opinion. After all where does that kind of thing stop?

Let's get rid of all people with blue eyes or ginger hair? All of those who speak with a northern accent?

To state that you cannot abide someone is fine, to go to the extent of stating that you wished they were dead is not.
