SCOLARI FOR ENGLAND !

Well, whaddya think?

I'm disappointed, badly wanted an English manager. Someone who could lead the lads in a rousing pre-match changing room rendition of 'Land of Hope and Glory', 'Rule Britannia', and 'Who do you think you are kidding Jurgen Klinsmann'.

Still - at least the man will have a bit of passion about him, unlike Sven-Goran Iceberg.

Bet the Portuguese aren't well pleased - this must do wonders for his ability to focus on getting the best from them in the world cup. Not cricket to approach him at this stage IMO.

Cheers Keith

I think we do better under foreign managers! Sadly enough..

I would think he'd be a good bet for our boys!!

Now, me personally, I support Spurs and Martin Jol has taken them high up the table this year. Don't think we'll get champions league status cos of the gooners :toss: ........

Swiss 27-04-06 11:09 AM

I have to agree with you Keith. We have a lot of good coaches in the UK to offer the job too, why go outside again, have the FA not learnt that this is not a popular move after the Sven saga????

You want pride, passion and the bulldog spirit....nuff said.

Just what I was thinking. Technical ability may be a bit lacking at the moment but he can get loads of help with that. It's the pride and passion bit that makes the difference for me.

scooby2102 27-04-06 12:04 PM

Personally I think you should go all out and try to secure the services of Berti Voggts, he's a great guy and did wonders for our national team

Guy's a tactical genious and master tactician

Go on - you know you want to

M65 27-04-06 12:08 PM

Hiddink had my vote but as he ruled himself out of the job by accepting Romans money, I think Phil is the best man left on the list.

I would have liked an English manager for sure, but I would much prefer the best man for the job. The English candidates just arent up to the national post in my opinion. Its not like they have a huge honours list now is it?

My 2p!

Sh*te never realised my pension fund was linked to Englands football performance. Although it would explain why I pay so much in fees for such a little return

Scolari for England :!: Another foriegn manager coming into the FA for a huge wage

England's manager should be English (just not Steve McLaren ) :!:

Big Sam or Stuart Pearce should get the job for me (or even both of them together :!:)

The Basket 27-04-06 07:32 PM

I agree that the England manager should be English or at least British. Martin O'Niell would have been a great choice.

Not sure about Pierce though. No big time management experience for me.

I hope the FA are on the ball. Not proven yet though.

UlsterSV 27-04-06 08:28 PM

Would love to see O'Neill manage England. The Parkhead faithful wouldn't be best pleased

I think England should be managed by an Englishman. English players, English coach. It's only right. Same should go for Northern Ireland. NI players, NI manager.

Jelster 27-04-06 09:58 PM

England just doesn't have a suitable "all round" man for the job. I'd love to see Stuart Pearce running the show but he's not experienced enough, both tactically and from a man management perspective (think about who he'll be managing).

The best Managers in this country are foreign, Wenger, Mourinho, Benitez, even Ferguson's a jock.... Mclaren and Allerdyce are not really the right mould. Only Curbishly probably has what it takes, but even that's a risk.

It would be nice to see Pearce work with Scolari so there is a long term succession plan.

Scolari...

Brazil

Portugal

England???

I would love someone to provide a convincing argument that this is a natural career move for Scolari! He must be getting a fantastic salary package, as frankly based on what he has worked with previously the England squad is somewhat different.

Dont get me wrong there are some talented players that can be called upon but in depth talent England certainly does not have! That is me being a realist. He also will have to deal with the various cultures that still exist in the mentality and lifestyle of English players.

It takes more than chest out and ranting to win top competitions I am afraid.

Look at Arsenal,in the first leg against Villareal they did not have an English player in the entire squad that night. If I am not mistaken only Sol Campbell who played in Spain this week was the only English born player to be involved.

This will be no different than before, the press will court Scolari for the qualifying of the next Euro Championships, but by the time the competition comes around they will be up to their usual discrediting tricks!

Much as there is a small bunch of English born managers that could well be suitable in a few years, only a fool can ignore the discipline and more cultured football that the likes of Rafa Benitez, Jose Mourinho and Arsene Wenger have brought to the English game. As this kind of influence takes a firmer hold, England will in future be able to truly compete at International level.

The 100 mile an hour long ball game is dead unless in the dying minutes of a knock out competition.

After all is said and done I will be cheering England on this summer, but anything beyond the quarters will I think be a bonus. 8)

Make of all that what you will! :?

The Basket 28-04-06 05:02 PM

Scolari has turned down the Job!!!!

Goodness me  what a mess :!:

Who next in this roller coaster :?:

I bet he is an English chap like Keegan and Hoddle... :D

However, the 57-year-old now says the attention of the British press has put him off. "There have been 20 journalists camped outside my house since yesterday," he said today. "I don't like this pressure. It may be part of another culture, but it's not part of mine.
Disgusting. What a shame. English scumbag media... unbelievable.

Why only 20, if was gonna get the job there be at least 100
Just realised why Middlesboro' have had such a ****e season, they dont start playing till they're 3-0 down.

H

lew893 28-04-06 11:17 PM

Not really that s***e yes we never did that well in the league this season, but midish table, league cup quarter final, FA cup semi final, and UEFA cup final in only our second season in Europe!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! not bad for a small town in Europe without the massive budgets of the bigger clubs and probably the best youth team at the moment!! :D

Peter Henry 29-04-06 12:22 AM

I promise I did not ring that nice chap Scolari to tell him what maggots the English press can be!

Moo 29-04-06 08:25 AM

:winner: Big Sam would ace!

philipMac 29-04-06 08:04 PM

Scolari would have been a savage manager for England. Just like Sven was (is?).

I am saying this from an Irish point of view, ie, I am not exactly preying that england win everything in sight. But, Scolari would have done the job.

Are people not furious that he was taken away from you by scumbag Sun journos?

The Basket 01-05-06 08:51 PM

I think Scolari is a wise man dropping the England job.

He doesn't need the cash and I bet he doesn't need the hassle.

Odd that the critics kicked him because he was a foreigner. The fact the he could have done a good job was never considered.

lew893 02-05-06 12:23 PM

I'd like big sam to get the job as I think he would be best! plus we would be able to keep McClaren and not disrupt our coaching staff and the youth coaches! :D
