sliding d220's

The weather is barmy here in the Midlands 75 c , The d220's are really hot howver still sliding when right over , got 2 mm left on tyres , but really don't feel like I can push them any harder without coming a cropper .
Any one got confidence in the 220's to get right to edges of tyres?
Just wondering ..

Cheers Steve

They're great! Getting it sideways coming out of a corner - woohoo - almost as good as landing on your face off a roundabout in the rain...

i got about 4mil left on my standard's and i know what you mean

Chaned my standards at about 5k, weather got better but the tyres just did'nt cope.

Z6's are a vast improvement.

Think you've done well to get them that far over I've got about 8mm coz I think there s***e and can't wait to change them.

The dry weather performance is OK IMHO.

Winter performance is awful. Keep 'em for the summer...going in the November thou.

Difficult to get heat in them, see?

BT014's are a good compromise of sticky rubber and a "working" tyre. I've just put Diablo Corsa's on the 'Blade and they are fantastic. Very grippy, more feedback than the 014's and they give me so much confidence. But they don't wear as well as the Bridgestones.

don't judge all dunlops on 1 tyre. I currently use the D208RR and couldnt be more happier wet and dry conditions they are excellent!

D220's aren't out and out sports tyres, so maybe you are asking to much from them.

i had an rs 125 with dunlop 207's on which like to go sideways. so 2 sets of tyres have put me off using them again

I've worn RHS down to 3mm (roundabouts :) ) LHS is about 2 inches though. I've felt the back slip on some roundabouts. I've done 4500miles on them, how long do they last cos I want to change them to Conti's.

Edit: :^o whoops, have actually gone out and put a ruler (sad I know) flat against my D220's RHS is 0.8cm and LHS is 3cm.

w1ll15 16-05-06 03:33 PM

i aint even had the confidence to take them that far, you wouldnt believe the amount of sideways moments ive had, its shot my confidence so even though theyre still fine im changing them getting dunlop qualifiers, some nice sticky tyres to get some confidence back not too bothered how long they last rather be buying tyres every 2 thou miles than nearly crashing everytime i go out down to ****e rubber

I swapped my D220's for Conti's at the weekend, Kindly done by Spannerman £142 fitted ride in ride out with biccies and tea.

The D220's served me well as I wasnt really pushing the bike when I first got it. Now the warm weather is here and I have started to increase my cornering speed the D220's arent really upto it. The conti RA's however, make it like a whole new bike. Bags of confidence from this tyre lots of feedback and nothng but praise for them at the moment.

I also note that someone mentioned D207's. My mate swears by them on his thundercat and he is a fast rider in the twisties. The reason I didnt go for them is the experience from the D220's (I know there a different tyre) and the good reports I have read on here about the Conti RA's

I found the 220s started to slide at about 4k, changed em at 5k and have had z6's on for 9000 miles. Great tyres and I haven't made them slide yet! Best money I ever spent.

Mine are almost on 5000 miles and they were flying this morning on my London commute - very surefooted and I was taking corners faster than ever (more hanging off and harder countersteering now though). I'll be changing them for Z6's or Stradas this summer (if the d220's can feel so good when I know they're not that great, better tyres shoulld be stunning). They felt a lot worse on my last bike (K4 54 plate, 33bhp) than on the new SV (K4 04 plate, full power) - so much so that I wonder if it's due to the power difference or a tyre batch difference.

Beenz 19-06-06 02:33 PM

My rears stuffed, just visible checken strips , low confidence cornering now. The profile is gone so that don't help but the difference in confidence going off rapidly from 3.4K. Maybe switching to Avons next.
