bike alarm fobb
 

okay yet another starting problem with my bike this has to be a record now for the number of times one bike can play up!! :cry: :cry:

Has anyone had any problems with their bike alarm fobb's before.. mine now refuses to work at all I have checked the wiring and that seems to be okay.. I have tried the spare key just incase it is the batteries in the thing but still no luck ..

seems to only happen when the bike has got wet which would indicate a wiring fault but I cant trace it the problem is that the alarm is also attached to the imobiliser..

I have put the main bike battery on charge for the day to see if this clears the problem up but this has happened when I have been out for a long ride and parked up admittedly it was raining badly that time as well but there should have been enough charge in the battery for that not to have been a problem and it is a fairly new battery!!

at this point in time if I took the wiring out for the alarm/immoboliser would this cause the bike more problems?

what alarm is it? i have a datatool system 3 now, and the unit/antenna seems to be under the rear seat (now seat cowl). it is very bad at getting reception sometimes, i look like i'm doing a little rain dance next to the rear of the bike on occasion... :shock: maybe you have the same thing, tho i don't know why rain would affect it.

Where do you keep the fob? Do you ride with it attached to the ignition key? In which case its probably had the stuffing knocked out of it. The other things is the alarm still secured, has it rattled off its mounting and it boucing around and how not working anymore. I have a Acumen on mine and it gave up after 3 years of road dirt, rain... Just one of those things.

Yep twice. Both times water in the keyfob. Dried the keyfob out and fitted new batteries and it started working again.

It's a solar alarm and I do carry it on the ignition key .. so point taken there i will change the battery and make sure it doesnt get carried there any more.

But .. I have used the spare fobb and that hasnt worked either.. the bike battery now cannot be put back on the bike without the alarm going off!!

After 5 hours of main battery being on charge I should imagine that the bike should be fine starting... the alarm is only two years old!!! :evil:

Grrr! I understand how annoyed u must be... I have to keep my bike on trickle charge if I'm not likely to ride for a week or so or the battery dies and the alarm goes off. :evil:

SO annoying. I just want to take the stupid thing off for some peace of mind (ah the irony).

My datatool on the SV did this. Sounds like for some reason your key fobb and alarm are not talking to each other. Have you got a manual for the alarm. It shoudl describe a procedure for "resynching" the alarm and keyfob so they start talking to each other.

I would wager your problem isnt a flat bike battery its either that you alarm is f*cked or you keyfobs arent talking to the alarm anymore. The reason why your bike isnt starting is because your keyfob wont disarm the immobiliser. If the bike battery was flat charing the bike battery would fix this. The main symtom I think is that when you reattach your battery the alarm starts going off.

Yup on the datatool you sometimes need to resync them as Fizz said, cant remember the correct procedure but should be in your manual. Bit of an odd symtpon, can always give the alarm manufacturer a call as they are actually quite helpful (ive found)

I take it you mean Sola alarm, or is it Solalarm? I forget. Whatever, remove the bloody thing, if these things work for one year you've done well, they're crap I really mean it. I refuse to fit them now - I know the owner will be back and it won't be long.

The advice about not keeping the control fob on your keys is correct, no matter what alarm it is, this by far the number one cause of failure.

it didnt come with a manual from the guy i brought it off.. I have changed the battery in both key fobbs and nothing is working so it is definatley that they arent talking to each other.

Do you know roughly how much it's going to cost me to take the alarm off and put a new one in?
(my garage will be happy as there isnt a workshop mode on the current alarm!)

depends on how much you want to spend, my Accumen was 100 quid with fitting. Not the best alarm, but it worked for 3 year. A Datatool will cost you about 300 quid, lot fancier. Might get it a bit cheaper as some of the work has been done when they fitted your old alarm.
