Weekend away
Hey,
I've been seeing my girlfriend for about 6 months and we were talking about getting away for a long weekend at the end of August. We've discussed a few places and cant decide but i'm looking at the destinations that cheap flights run too. Somewhere cheap but a little classy, she's studying for a wine diploma so that has some bearing on the kind of place. Any ideas? These are what I've come up with so far but any other ideas are welcomely received. Dan |
Of those, I've only been to Pisa. It's a cracking place for a romantic weekend. Great weather, wonderful ice-cream, fantastic wine, amazing architecture, quality food.
The Leaning Tower is far more impressive in reality than in photos too. Definitely recommended. |
Can I throw Barcelona into the pot? We were there a couple of years ago, and it's a stunningly beautiful city. Gaudi's cathedral.................wow.
I got return flights there for less than £40 each for a friend just a couple of months ago through Easyjet. Other than that, out of your three options I've only been to Turin..............again, a beautiful place :D |
Get along to Blackpool mate! Take her along to see Chubby Brown on the pier. Nice ride on a tram and a few hours laughing back at that bloke sat outside the funhouse.
Then if romance is in the air ,you can let her have your little stick of rock. :P |
I voted Pisa but agree with Lissa Barcelona is great

newquay.
feels like your abroad, (compared to london and southend) and long weekends can be had for as little as 80 quid. |
Poland, hire some AK-47's shoot some cattle and get wasted
or Prague is very nice your choice  |

So its really between Turin and Pisa. Is Italy an expensive country in general or just comparable with the UK for eating out and drinking etc. Cheers Dan |
Florence.
|
How about the Lake District or Edinburgh?

sorry, wrong thread  |
Sir Sid beat me to it. Florence is glorious. I went to Rome also and can highly reccomend the Vatican City etc. Florence is a lot prettier though.
|
:-k Florence, I'll go have a look at easyjet etc...

Why do we call it Florence? It's not Florence, it's Firenze. http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=e...,2.889404&om=1 (Pisa is due west of Florence, near the coast) |
i live at newquay dont come here i say nuremberg you will love it and she can shop perfect
|
Florence ain't cheap to get to if you want to fly direct  It's my fave place on earth and I've said I'll only go back there with someone worth going with....
If you're stuck for options and driven by price, get thee to www.skyscanner.net It organises flights by date and price, so you can see what destinations are coming up cheapest. And they list all the budget airlines. I did Granada return from Stansted for £25 in April. That's quite a nice place too... |

Thanks for that - never heard of it |
3 days all inclusive in Salu - fantastic!
|
Krakow - I didn't like it. Pisa - you'll have seen it all in half an hour. Turin - never been. Now how about Bologna, there's a motorbike factory there and you can go on guided tours :P :P :P
Warsaw is terrific. Although the town was flattened in 1944-5, it was rebuilt as was, and the 'Old Town' is fabulous. Busy, and hot in summer. Else - Bordeaux is really nice, different too. St Emilion (beautiful, simply perfect) only half an hour up the road. Would deffo appeal to a wine snob  |
Skyscanner is a cool site, really useful.
Ta |
what a well travelled bunch you are. :?
|
I went to Budapest a couple of years ago & would happily recommend it, fantastic city with loads to do. A few of the 'budget' airlines are flying there now, cost us about £80 for a return flight.
|
Wine? (O)Porto, Portugal. Not the most romantic of places for sure, but if you really want to know wine, a visit to the "Vinho do Porto" cellars is in order. Which, by the way, aren't really in Porto. They are on the southern bank of the Douro river, in Vila Nova de Gaia.
|
Just got back from the Alps- if you're into outdoor activities, would recommend it for a summer weekend! Got cheap sleezyjet flights, and then you can either get a car, or train?
|
Anyone been to Paris? Pricing it up and seems not too bad depending on how much it costs once I'm there?
Cheers |
