Mr Plod has tracked down the van driver

as it says in the subject line :D

A big hurrah for Mr Plod. :notworthy:
7 weeks after the incident - Mr Plod may not be the quickest, but he does get there in the end

Under the data protection act they are unable to give me his details - unless I write to them requesting them, so I shall be doing that pronto. The copper was unable to give me any details, except to say that they had spoken to him regarding a number of matters . . .

Any idea what happens next - notify the insurance co (eBike) I guess & then use their free legal expenses that comes with the policy to pursue the blighter.

You never know, I might even be back on the road in time for the annual rideout (if there is an emoticon for fingers crossed, please let me know)

Viney 19-06-06 09:04 AM

Yup, send the details to the insurance company, and what you siad, uses the legal cover to sort it out. Orrrrr, get the legal people to write to the plod for the details.

Kate 19-06-06 09:29 AM

Give the details to your solicitor and get him/her to sort it. Congrats!!

Grinch 19-06-06 09:35 AM

woohoo... all the best...

Flamin_Squirrel 19-06-06 10:13 AM

Whoo, I hope they throw the book, or even better, his van at him 8)

Know what charges he's gonna be up for? Driving without due care, failure to stop after an accident, failure to report an accident... lets hope anyway!

K 19-06-06 11:10 AM

Well, there's a turn up for the books, good ol' plod.

If they were talking to him about 'a number of things' sounds like you'll not be the only one in the book throwing queue! :?

jonboy 19-06-06 11:11 AM

Blimey! Well I hope something comes of it, keep us informed.

eh? The DPA shouldnt apply here I thought. The police had no problem giving me the guys name and reg number so I could pass those on to the insurers - thats all they need. That wouldnt fall under personal details which the DPA cover.

Go back to the police and say you just want his name and the reg number. The insurers can get the rest from that. If they still insist on the DPA just write in for it saying you need these details for your insurers/solicitors.

But otherwise nice to hear they caught up with him. Heres hoping driving without insurance isnt one of these other matters. :D

Rider 19-06-06 12:58 PM

That is good news. Saying that, I had a very similar incident when I was knocked off the scooter on 5th April - but still no cash :( ! I'm using Rider Support who are all in all pretty good.

CoolGirl 19-06-06 09:37 PM

Nice one Si - hope it all goes smoothly from here on in.

Hope the blighter's insured and you at least get a rental in the meantime - it kills me seeing you hobbling about!

Cazza 19-06-06 10:59 PM

Great news Simon - I'll keep everything crossed for you!

rictus01 19-06-06 11:01 PM

Yep

I had a 'witness' who was following me on a bike, who saw the incident & stopped to see if I was alright, but didn't get the number plate.

The CCTV from the petrol station picked up the number plate, and also me hopping across the forecourt, so the cops had a good idea what time to look for a white van - luckily there was only one

If there had been no witness they wouldn't have done anything - no witness and you're stuffed

I suspect it will now end up in court several years down the line as the guy is denying everything, however Mr Plod is on his case, especially as there were 'several matters' they talked to him about, so it's going to be a long battle

The copper I gave a statement to said that I should have dialed 999 at the time - I could have had a nice ride in an ambulance to hospital, and they'd have got on the case much quicker . . .

I've got some new protective gear for the next time I go out

Good news Si,
How many "straw men" do you need at court?
A fiver says I saw everything

Stig 25-06-06 01:11 PM

Good news, let's hope it turns into a good result.

Oh and twisted radiators are in fashion at the moment.
