Car & Bike licences?

Just wandering what peeps have, i have noticed many peeps that dont have car licences and wander why. Most peeps seem to get the car licence first then bike.

ps. I changed the poll to better reflect what i want to know.

SpankyHam 30-06-06 10:07 AM

did both car&bike at the same time

Ping 30-06-06 10:08 AM

I would've liked to be able to click option c, but I've not had the money to go for my pilot's license...

Edit: so it's option b for me.

Iansv 30-06-06 10:08 AM

Bike only... Not gonna do car until I need to as work will use as an excuse to send me out all over the place

anna 30-06-06 10:08 AM

I only have bike licence i did my car one last year and failed and though oh well what do i need one for anyway!!!

Marshall 30-06-06 10:09 AM

Did my car licence back in 1997 when i was 17, did my bike licence (DAS) February this year. I always wanted a bike, but my parents wouldnt let me (too dangerous apparantley)

Filipe M. 30-06-06 10:09 AM

That must of been impressive!

Just been desperately trying to talk 1 of the guys in the office out of buying an '02 125cc scooter, my own fault for leaving the last copy of bike trader open on my desk I suppose. He's looking at buying a bike, and was opting for a moped thinking he can ride it on his car licence. Quick trot over to the DVLA website says different these days. Lucky escape!

Did car a few years back, CBT a few months ago (50mile commute was 'fun' on an '86 CG125-BR), and only recently the DAS. SV being delivered tomorrow :)

Heh, I've always been told the same thing. Should of seen the look on my parents faces when I showed them a picture of the SV after I'd bought it. My dads words were 'Well, if you have to'.

Sudoxe 30-06-06 10:16 AM

Bike first then the car.

Dan

Rode 250's on L plates for years then they changed the law, got married banned from bikes and took the car test as kids came along. 15 years later convinced the wife that I needed a bike because of the congestion charge (not bad as I get free rail travel) now have had the bike liecence for 4 years and am much happier riding to work than being stuck on a train (and as I work for them thats bad press0

falc 30-06-06 10:27 AM

Car then bike, didnt want a moped :D

creamerybutter 30-06-06 10:30 AM

Only had a bike licence for the last 6 years but am going to get my car licence soon as it would be usefull.

Lou M 30-06-06 10:32 AM

Passed car test in 1987  and bike in 2000. Why I didn't do my bike test earlier I'll never know.
But I was lucky to miss the theory test on both! Sometimes it pays to be old.

I couldn't afford a decent car and lessons, but I could afford a decent 125 and CBT... Then, once I'd done that I got the bug and put off getting a car so I could buy the SV.

Speaking of that, from research on the t'internet, courses round my neck of the woods are far too pricey! £190 for a CBT :O I paid £420 not long ago for my 2day DAS :(

Tara 30-06-06 10:40 AM

Car then Bike

tricky 30-06-06 10:42 AM

Rode a bike on L-Plates when I was sixteen/seventeen . Never took my test.
Took car test at 17.
Long bikeless period
Took bike test and got another bike.

Carsick 30-06-06 11:02 AM

I used to have a car license, but we don't talk about it anymore.

Jabba 30-06-06 11:15 AM

1982: Car licence
2003: Bike licence (via DAS)

Law 30-06-06 12:27 PM

Car licence at 18
Bike licence at 21

Had a housemate at uni who had a CB250 and I decided to get a bike licence.

My family thought bikes are too dangerous and after several discussions told me I wasn't allowed, so I went ahead anyway and did my test(DAS).

Then I got bought a new Polo straight after my test, if I sold my 125 and never got on a bike again.

Got bored of the car after 4 months and started saving for a SV. 2 years later, got a new SV

My mum has forgiven me being a dirty little lying spoilt cheat.

Bear 30-06-06 12:41 PM

Bike first in '95, car next in '05. Only did my car test for work (driving vans full of film equipment around) In fact, since passing my test, all I've driven has been my SV and huge transits (high top, long wheelbase) full of expensive equipment. I think a car would feel weird now...

Viney 30-06-06 12:50 PM

I had provisonal bike 1st(16 year old) then car, then CBT, then full bike

Flamin_Squirrel 30-06-06 12:54 PM

Don't feel too bad Law, it seems from you avatar it's your parents fault for introducing you to bikes at a young age 8)

Abyss 30-06-06 01:01 PM

Heh i have neither but I voted bike only since hopefully on monday Ill have the bike one :P

tigersaw 30-06-06 01:09 PM

Took bike and car tests in 1980, passed bike, failed car - didn't retake car, no interest. Had to take car again in 1984 because license required by work.

Never been interested in cars, just consider them a tool for lugging things around.
Helen can't understand, she has 2 Porsche, (Boxter S and Cayenne S), despite putting me on the insurance I've never even wanted a drive.

Reckless Rat 30-06-06 01:22 PM

Bike @ 17 in 1979
Car @ 18 in 1980

Oh dear... that makes me look old!

RR

MattTheLoony 30-06-06 01:47 PM

I wasn't interested in bikes till I hit about 25 and had already been driving for 8 years. I think the on road experience I gained before riding the bike was invaluable.

fraser01 30-06-06 04:21 PM

Um...car, HGV, tracked and finally bike..in that order :)

Quedos 30-06-06 05:02 PM

Car first in 1997 after failing 3 times. Had to get a car lived in middle of nowhere and parents would pay for bike lessons

DAS May 2005 5 days course £500 including B&B 8)

Now I've unleashed the bike bug (parents always knew I was gonna try it - has my first bike helmet at 7) Got two bikes. Unfortunately work require me to have a car - carry too much stuff :(

thor 30-06-06 05:03 PM

Bike, then car.

K 30-06-06 05:44 PM

Bike then car, both before as a teenager.

Like Nutty - theory test, what's a theory test?!

Razor 30-06-06 05:48 PM

Car license first, but I rode bikes long before I ever got behind the wheel.

Caddy2000 30-06-06 05:49 PM

Never mind theory test, what about the hazard perception test?! ^*&^(^(%($^%$^££*%$*$£**%^&*^%!!!!

Speedy 30-06-06 07:40 PM

Does CBT count as bike licence first?

If so,then Bike then Car,

If not, then Car then Bike.

I havent voted because of this slight confusion on my part. :?

BILLY 30-06-06 08:11 PM

Anonymous 30-06-06 08:23 PM
