Help needed with MP3 player
I am trying to get my wifes MP3 player working
Its 1GB. Using my computer with USB link it is seen as the F Drive and I have loaded 250 MB of music on it. As an F Drive it plays through the computer just fine. The MP3 players own display also shows 250MB of storage is used so far, but when I go to the music display and press PLAY it says "no files" What am I doing wrong? |

Look at the manual and see if they need to be stored in a particular place ie in a folder called Music, with no more than 2 levels of subfolders. I am guessing you just put the files onto it in the top level and so the MP3 player doesn't have a clue where to look for playable files. Most of these MP3 players are used as datastorage too - which is why they usually specify a file structure David |
maybe you put the mp3 files into the wrong folder on the mp3 play?
or maybe the mp3 player needs tro format itself before installing mp3 files onto it. |
Just plugged the MP3 player in and it popped up on the PC as an F drive. I then dragged and dropped the music from my C drive. Seemed so simple, but will have another look through the book. :?:

Well nothing in the book about different folders!
The MP3 player opens on the PC as F: Drive. It has no structure (sub folders) as far as I can see. |
are you downloading mp3 or wma files some mp3 players wont play anything other than mp3

The files I am downloading are WMA files. The player should play MP1, MP2, MP3, WMA, WMV, ASF, WAV etc. The wife did load some music about 6 months ago, but she cant remember how, and cant do it again now! :? |
What make and model is it Chris?
. |
Its called IItronics - only a cheap model.
Now I just tried loading music from my laptop in exactly the same way and it worked first time?? |
Heres another clue:
The music it downloaded from my laptop was a free demo wma file that came with the PC. I just burned a CD (in WMA) onto the laptop. It did copy onto the MP3 player but the files aren't seen by the MP3 player and wont play. Off on holiday tonight - looks like we will be without music :? |
very strange mate
i notice you said drag n drop have you tried copy n paste instead hth |

IIRC there's an option somewhere in the settings of media player that can add some kind of ID tag to the files that means they can only be played on your PC and not on any other device such as another PC, mp3 player etc. It'd also explain why you PC will play the files stored on the MP3 player, but the player itself won't. I'd check for this option if I were you... HTH EDIT: just found the option - In media player 10, go to tools > options and select the 'rip music' tab. There's a check box about half-way down marked 'copy-protect music'. |

There also might be a limitation on what bit-rate it will play back. It could be that it won't play back anything higher than, say, 192 bit.

Thanks guys.
Run out of time now but will have a look again when we get back from hols. |
Wow.
Thanks Red Ones - if you transfer a full album folder it objects. Tansfer individual tracks and its just fine     Incidently I found the protect feature on the media player and it was already turned off. The wifes off downloading lots of music now Thanks again   |
You're welcome
Sony PSP has a similar issue - though the problem is that music, video etc has to sit in an appropriately named folder. (What is hard to find out is what the folder has to be called as you need to create the folder yourself!) |
