Have you still got the bike? I live near Witheridge. Thanks, Han.
|
Yes the bike is still here.

Thank you Razor for bringing up the Ebay link.. £510 was not enough... this is a great bike for the year and history... with low mileage. In order to educate those who don't know - a Cat D is NOT written off, it is an insurance buyback. I've seen plenty of 'normal' cat bikes in far worse condition. For anyone to believe this bike requires stabilisers probably shouldn't be riding one!
And for those of you nosey enough to want to know why I'm selling it..... I had major surgery on my shoulder last year (now screwed together) and now find it the wind buffeting tiring after a while. OK? Ahhhh |
Cat D is written off, it's just not marked as unable to go back on the road (which is what I assume you were meaning). But, you should really let people know...as it would come up on the record should they do a HPI check.

Every one who has made an enquiry about the bike has had this explained to them. Hence the price. A " normal" bike of this age, condition and mileage would fetch at least £500 more. See Parkers and auto Trader. If more information is needed then read Ride Mag July/Aug/Sept. There is a series of an SVS bought of ebay for £1121 as a class D to be repaired and brought back to spec. Damage included trashed: forks , yolks, spindle, front subframe, rear wheel, front wheel, rear subframe and undertray, fairing. Total cost £1637. This bike is in far better condition than this and as such a real bargain for someone looking for a cheap introduction to V twin ownership. No, it might not be a male jewelery rocking horse that some rain shy people prefer to own but this a good, much loved bike. So before any one decides to make small minded comments - including the price that was bid on ebay, I suggest they check their facts. |
Write off or not, it's still cat D which will put people off if not told about. Your last auction said it was a cat d so good on you, don't hide it. I've bought a cat d sv650 before and had absolutely no problems with it whatsoever. So much so, I deliberately look out for cat c and d claimed bikes now. :D I got mine for £1200 too, lol.
Good luck with the sale, don't mind the nit pickers on this forum. Don't bite. Worth it at £1200, don't let anyone else tell you different. |
Im afraid CAT D is written off, it means the vehicle is unechonomical for repair and therefore the insurance company has payed out for the vehicle, regardless of if it was bough back or not.
Google it.. its all there.. Still shouldnt put ppl off, afterall CAT d is the lightest clasifcation, dented tanks can write bikes off.. |
http://www.motorcycle.co.uk/insurance_write_off.htm as an example.
The definition of a write-off is that there was damage that was claimed against, and the insurance company decided NOT to actually repair - i don't think you're arguing that any of that is untrue, so yes it is a write-off. As a minor point...i'm not sure how you can buy it back off the insurance company if it wasn't first written off! But, cat D isn't necessarily bad! As per the link above it might have even been economical to repair, but the insurer didn't want to. To me, a write-off just means i have to look carefully, because it is so open and depends on the insurer/assessor if it is written off or not - and changes a lot between companies. |
Is the bike still for sale?
|
:( bike now sold... boohoo.. really had a load of fun on it..
Even better news, have just taken delivery of ER6f. :D (black) gotta run it in, so managed a 100 miles on Sun to get tyres scrubbed... not too dissimilar to SV just lighter and even more nimble. So I'll be moving over to the Kawasaki forum, if I can do that?? |
