Hand Guards tasteless or practical

Hey Folks I'm back again with another dumb question. I'm thinking about fitting a pair of moto cross style handguards to my naked curvy and was curious about whether anyone else has done this already and can recommend some.

Or if I'm about to place a tasteless piece of tat to my beloved bike. I wouldn't ask except my wife keeps reminding me how bad my taste can be sometimes so I thought I'd try the valued opinion of you all.

Cheers
Rich

I have handguards from a klr on mine, slight modification to the handguards is requires, Vstrom handguards are bolt on

Razor 27-08-06 11:48 PM

They look alright if you fit renthals.

Hey RandyO.

This has got to be too good to be true  You're telling me that VStrom Hand Guards will fit straight on to my 2000, Y model, nekked, curvy :D

That's awesome news dude, I always seem to have to modify whatever I attempt to fit to the bike. Nice you 8)

Cheers

WOW

Sent a general enquiry through Suzuki UK's website re. the guards this morning.

Just had a phone call from Claycross Powersports to say they'd be emailed by Suzuki UK and would I like to order the Items for £23 incl. delivery.

The whole things been done in 2 hours. Well chuffed

When I get the guards and get them fitted I'll post some pics.

Ben, RandyO and Razor thanks for the help, much appreciated. 8)

I would have vstrom handguards but for I put mine on before Suzuki made the vstrom

Do you guys mean the type of plastic guards to keep the windblast off in winter or are they thin ones fixed to the bar ends to protect from branches? If the former, do the Vstrom ones fit a pointy SV ?(mines a K5), I've been meaning to get some for ages.

the white rabbit 28-08-06 07:36 PM

The strom ones are quite substantial so serve both purposes IIRC. There was a pic with an SV with some on somewhere once. If they are decently strong they will help prevent broken levers too

anyone know if they will fit a pointy sv "s" model without infringing on the steering lock?

could be a useful mod.

Not unless you put them on the wrong way around  but I know what you mean, doubt it

Found one in the main site gallery. Look like strom ones to me. Which means btw that POSSIBLY any aftermarket guard like Acerbis that fits the strom MIGHT fit the SV (by reverse ill-logic)

but but but WHY? :?

xlewdx 31-08-06 08:40 PM

Honestly dude.
I'm too tight to pay for heated grips, would probably blow up the bike even if I did try and fit them and because I'm gonna have to use the bike through winter this year I wanted to give my poor little hands some sort of protection from the elements.
I admit that they may not be the most beautiful accessory in the world but what the hell. When I'm passing those metal coffins on the roads in December I ain't gonna give a rats ass how it looks.

for winter riding yea agree'd, prob a good thing better than frost bite. :)

svgirl78 31-08-06 10:29 PM

Hmmm...
For a an extra £15 and less than an hours work you could have had lovely warm hands courtesy of Forest Edge Retail on eBay. But your choice I guess

RingDing 01-09-06 05:52 AM

I'm a right wuss! :D I use hand guards and heated grips during the winter. The guards really take the edge off on a cold ride, especially if it is raining.

Tony_BLY 01-09-06 07:48 AM

Can you tell me where I can get some from for my curvy 2000 S please?

I would prefer these to heated grips, as they are less hassle and my mate reckons his heated grips aren't that brill with the windchill.

Cheers

Would they work with an "S" model  I'd think they'd severely limit the already naff turning circle!!!

xlewdx 03-09-06 09:46 AM

I never thought I was easily led or a fashion victim, however, after endless ridicule from my so called best mates and an offer from my wife to buy me some heated grips for the bike "if you just take those bloody things off' guess what?
kwak zzr you win, my lovely 'new' handguards at less than a week old are in the 'for sale' section if anyones interested.

northwind 03-09-06 06:49 PM

Aw. I quite like 'em. On the right bike, anyway. Pointy SVs carry them off well I think, they've got quite a hefty, solid feel as standard so big practical stuff looks good on them. Curvys, less so, they're too pretty.
