I Make No Apologies For Making a Thread Out Of This

Because beating a team that's ranked 65 places higher than you is something to savour! What a display. Three great goals and it looks like David Healy is now officially a Northern Ireland legend. Won't be long before Sir Alex is chasing him  It's a year to the day since we beat England too. Is wee NI now the giant killers of Europe?

Oh yeah, and that Crouch goal was never in! :P

great result for you wee lads. well done.

The goal was more in than the one scored in 66, however giant killers???? beat a team65 places above you, but lose to team ranked below you 3-0, When you can beat all then you might be giant killers

Gone fishing..............

Good win, though

runt, the job of a giant killer isn't to beat every team. Playing consistently poorly against equal or lesser opposition and then claiming the scalps of several big teams is the hallmark of a true giant killing team

I'm disappointed with France; had money on them to win the World Cup. Just my luck they loose the wrong match

And I am not looking for a bite! Next you're going to tell me Ashley Cole wasn't behind the line! :P

the_runt69 07-09-06 09:36 AM

No he was in front of the line, but lucky where the ball dropped, cant say England played at all well but they ground out a result. Against better oposition cant see us winning anything. Most of the lauded players of the last two games were absent. Crouch was lucky to score but should have had a penalty in the first half.
The ref was appaulling. If this is the new football it wont be long till they're playing in American style pads. Its enough of a pantomime now with the dives and rolling about, but the way the ref went about it last night. They coundnt even blowon a player without getting a foul given.

you've sort of contradicted yourself in that message. you said the lauded players were absent, yet you then say how pants the ref was. and you're right. on both counts! the ref was awful, he stopped and started the game so much there was no flow, nobody had any time on the ball, hence the "bigger boys" couldn't shine. best player on the night was JT by a mile. lampard was rubbish. again. gerrard was quiet but i guess that comes with the territory of being out wide.

it was a 6/10 performance. got the job done, thats about it.

Ulster: please explain

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/foot...ls/5323790.stm

surely a result against Spain is worth its weight in gold?

Peter Henry 07-09-06 03:04 PM

Ulster....Spain last night were abysmal. I thought the high tempo approach to the game would tell on your boys in the end but none of it! Too many Spanish players believe in their own press and continued their shocking performance in the World Cup, last night!

Believe me Torres is not worth the stupid money people have been talking about. The Spanish team have been absolutely slated here in the media today. But take nothing away from Norn iron they raised there game and made Spain look even worse!

That France game was a true pleasure to watch also.

The Mass 07-09-06 03:43 PM

Just wanted to add petrol to the flames here, but here goes.

Erm...(cough)...

Anyone seen any mention in the news about the "Flag of St.George" being burnt on national television by the Welsh fans the other night, when they played Brazil?

Now running away.

UlsterSV 07-09-06 04:15 PM

Interesting Peter, I take it the Spanish press were expecting a whitewash in the lead up to the game? That'll teach 'em!

Kinvig, I think Lawrie was trying to leave all summer but didn't for some reason. But the fact that he courted other clubs turned some people in the media against him. The very English way in which our media worked the NI people up into a frenzy after the win against Finland resulted in the team being booed off the pitch after the Iceland defeat. It's not something our fans do but the media had everyone thinking we were world beaters when we aren't. Then the team and manager were torn apart after that loss by the media but of course after we beat Spain they all wanted interviews etc. I think Lawrie has just had enough of it all now.

It's just nice to turn on MOTD and look forward to Mr Lineker reading out the NI score, instead of feeling very embarassed as I usually do.

think Scotland are doing ok too. but i could be wrong
