hello,

as some of you already know, the weekend just passed i took it upon my self to get my bike back on the road after it had been in my garage broken for two years. my engine was kaput, and i had managed to find a good second hand engine with 9000 miles on it for £440, so saturday morning i drove to cardiff to pick up this engine, when i got there the engine looked a bit of a state, but after looking closer it was just covered in dirt, and wiping it away revealed a nice shiney engine. connected a batery to the starter motor, and the engine turned over very smoothly :) so i took it and mde my way back.
my bike was in many peices, as before i had decided to brake the bike, so i used the last of saturday and all of sunday rebuilding and servicing the bike.
by 15:00 on sunday i had started the bike and it was runnign great! except for i had no end can on the exhaust and it sounded very mean!!! and loud. battery was dead, i had to jump start it, so after it had started... i poped down halfords and grabed a new battery.
i took it out for my first ride in 2 years last night..... and wow!!! it was better than i remembered!! very fun and exciting, had forgot just how fast it really was!!
was pretty good because the same day the clutch went in my beloved BM!! which means im on the bike till the cars fixed... (funds restricting!!!!)
any way, it rode beautifully, although i rode into work this morning and on the way developed a bit of an intermitant splutter in the power,, its either a fueling or ignition problem, havnt quite worked it ou yet... symptoms are reduced power with a splutter, slightly excessive popping in the exhaust.. and its all intermitant.. so a little more jiggery pokery and it should all be perfect :)

and i have to say and recomend... i ordered one of those cheap fuel exhaust, £112 delivered.. and the build quality is great, what an amazing deal, such an exhaust for your money... my scorpionm race can is no better. am very happy with it :)

Intermitent stutter....

I take it that the fuel tank was empty over the 2 years? If not, then drain the tank and put some fresh petrol in there.

Or

Carbs are not pushed fully home on the rubber mounts, letting air in where it shouldnt. Undo carbs and re-seat them. If still not right, give them a clean, and balance.

or

Plugs. I take it when you serviced it, you put in new plugs?

carbs seated correctly... possibly, they were a bugger to seat.
carbs are being balanced when i get enougth time, i doubt they are out that much, and the problem woundnt be intermitant.
another possibility... one of my carb heaters was damaged and might have intermitant operation... but will this cause my problem?

Possible the cabrs not seated then, and the SV carbs can go out of sync very easily. The carb heaters arent worth sh*t on the SV. I had a broken one on a set for 2 years, and never caused a problem. It was a bit chilly this morning so could just have been a bit of carb icing.

Check the carbs are seated, Undo the screw on the clamp a bit more, and spray a bit of wd40 around the rubber. They should pop on with light pressure. Front one 1st

just found a potential problem... there was a slight kink in the fuel line from the pump to the carbs, could explain everything :)
test ride very soon :)

it was the kinked fuel line causing my problem, all rectified now :) and i have just come back from my MOT..... :) straight through although i did get an advisory for my fuel exhaust.... he was very close to failing me but i talked him round.... very luckY!!! so even tho they advitise road leagal... they will struggle with mots. anyway have taken the baffle out now and sounds lush! just like my old scorpion :) shame the weather is poo,,but its not stopping me :)

So, what was wrong exactly with the old engine and what are you going to do with it?

Got the restrictors by the way, thanks very much (found the note amusing too :lol: )

Re: the fuel can and the mot. If the baffle was in, then it would be below the maximum db allowed surely (otherwise the e stamp on the can would mean nothing and they could probably get done for it). Bet it was just the garage being arsey :lol:

yes i do stil have the old link pipe.

i am not sure what is wrong with the engine yet, i will strip it down when i have the time on a rainy weekend (i think its the big end thats gone)

and baffle was in... no e mark on the exhaust.... but did have BS xxxx stamp on it... its definatly louder than standard with the baffle in

I'm glad you managed to get it all sorted, from the sounds of things you're a fully qualified mechanic!

Happy to hear that you took the decision of keeping the bike, have to say it looks bling!

yeah no problem, let me dig it out and take a piccy of it for you, from what i remember its all good apart from heat discolouration
