Anyone snowboarding in January? :-)

.

Kylie 13-12-06 11:39 AM

Was meant to, and looks like might be snow soon where we would be going too (Chatel, Portes de Soleil) but just bought a house and looks like time is for DIY and cash is for furniture in 2007. :(

fizzwheel 13-12-06 11:44 AM

Not this year. I went to Meribel a few years ago and we boarded across to Val Thoren. Bl**dy ace it was as well.

Have a good trip.

krazykim 13-12-06 11:50 AM

I'm hoping to go to Belgium in Feb/March. Can't wait! Only ever been to Andorra.

Tara 13-12-06 11:51 AM

Not this year - have a great time tho

sarah 13-12-06 12:38 PM

yup, i am and i can't wait.
though it's kinda been eclipsed by the fact that i'm doing DAS next week which i am way more excited about
:D

Kinvig 13-12-06 12:49 PM

Going in the beginning of Feb with a bunch of people I've never met before.

France. Tignes, I think but can't be sure.

They all ski so I'll be the only boarder. Actually it's been 2 years since I last snow boarded so I;ll be the only novice & snowboarder....which means I'll probably spend the week on the slopes on me tod!

glade 13-12-06 01:40 PM

I'm skiing in andorra at the end of jan... only 46 days (28 working days) whoop.

Have you been watching the snow? Its been the worst start to the season in europe for years, and many resorts aren't open or have severely limited runs  .

I use http://www.snow-forecast.com their predictions always seem accurate and they have a lot of information for free.

Winter sports.

You wouldn't find me doing anything so dangerous. At least on a bike I have appropriate protective clothing and the ability to stop etc.

Kim, are you sure it's a skiing/boarding holiday in Belgium? I'm hoping not. Do you know the organisers well and did they say anything about some magic beans?

For me, Les trois vallees resorts are les mutts.

I had a major trip to Whistler booked for the beginning of 2006 but it all went wrong and ended up not going anywhere!!!! The travel agent lost the contract for the chalet that we'd booked.

Hey Lee, in Val Thorens go to the Viking Bar. May have changed as its a few years ago but its the bar the scandanavians go to and of course they cant believe the beers so cheap  , which of course it is to them but not to us.

Anyway....the gents urinals are right in front of the queue to the ladies. Yes, you try having a pee when there's a line of very tall blonde women stood behind you

Anyway, go and tell me if it still happens

glade 30-12-06 06:49 PM

GPS gadget that tells you distance and speed info.

trickywoos 30-12-06 10:12 PM

Went up the mountains today, and have never seen so little snow on the Pyrenees for this time of year. Also been looking on a website of where I used to work in the Alps, and they are in Dire need of some snow!! Def head to Val Thorens! Or Tignes! And rumour has it that Les Deux Alpes is ok at the moment!

Although this could mean that we may have snow later on in the year - April / May time.

Steve H 05-01-07 04:39 PM

My Wife and I just booked a cheap week in Passo Tonale in Italy to blow the
cobwebs away at the beginning of Feb.
Anyone skied there before?

netsurfer 07-01-07 03:05 PM

Roll on Saturday :) Been looking forward to getting away to Austria since it was booked in August
(Was getting a bit worried about the lack of snow, but thankfully there has been a big dump over the last week or so (phew)

Anyone else hitting the slopes next weekend?

Pete

Well if you are up for a speed challenge I got 105 km/h on my Navman last year!

Independently witnessed by my best mate. Took a bit of time to find the right run, kept maxing at 96, before hitting 100.

On the 105 attempt my mate stopped halfway down on a lip to signal there was no one below.

Thing is you need a smooth straight red/black run to hit these speeds and mistakes can be painful!

Note I wore a helmet on all attempts..

speedygirl 07-01-07 07:09 PM

Going boarding in Morzine in Feb - can't wait!! Didn;t go last year as spent cash on kiteboarding trip to Egypt instead - decisions decisions 8) Really glad the snow has started dumping at last - should be awesome by end of Feb :D :D will post pics when back...

Conditions not too bad considering the lack of snow :) Just a bit icy in places (Dorfgastein was fab but Sportgastein was a real ice field)

Friday it rained, but it didnt worry me, i've been laid up with a broken bone in my thumb since Tuesday :( DAMN SNOWBOARDERS!

The doc treating me in Austria says he has never seen so many injuries so early in the season, and puts it down to poor conditions, ice and the like.

Thanks for that. I will sleep much more easily now! :?
Oh well, whatever happens, it beats going to work!.............yes, I dislike my job that much. :?

Tim in Belgium 22-01-07 09:51 PM

Yep, give me mountains anyady.

Got 2 weeks in Whistler from the 3rd March, they've only got 295 cms at the moment, hope it all doesn't melt!

It's snow karma though, last time I went to Whistler only the top third of each mountain was open, it was their worst season ever and it rained at the top!!

Hope evryone who's off anywhere has good snow and a great injury free time, be you boarder or skier...

Re: Anyone snowboarding in January? :-)

So anyone got any reports from recent trips?

Kinvig 22-02-07 09:24 AM

Re: Anyone snowboarding in January? :-)

Was down in Les coches near La Plagne (French Alps) from 3nd Feb. had 8 days snowboarding.

Snowed before we got there & then on the Tues/Weds & a little each day after that.

Myself & the experienced skiers I went with got a little off-piste action in on the Tues & Weds.

Temp was always sub-zero.

I ended up with loads of bruises from the first few days but then I remembered how to board again so it was all good. Took my Forcefield back protector & needed it! My right hand wrist guard was completely trashed by the end of the holiday (I board goofy).

Re: Anyone snowboarding in January? :-)

Heading off tomorrow to Whistler for my 2 weeks, can't wait, they've still got loads of snow, around 3m!! Bring on the powder. Concentrating at work today is gooing to be very tricky!
