where is your scottoiler bottle?

im thinking of putting mine behind the black plastic thing you have to take off to remove seat(by back shock)....but am open to sugestions (curvy sport)
picy not working

northwind 13-01-07 07:34 PM

That's the best place IMO, that's where mine lives. There's an M6 threaded hole in the frame there too, perfect. Very fiddly to adjust without taking the cover off though.

Red ones 13-01-07 07:50 PM

Gets a bit warm from teh rear exhaust there though

chazzyb 13-01-07 07:59 PM

Blimey, just put one on my SV this afternoon! I've put the doings under the rear seat. So I've sacrificed some of the space where my overtrousers would get stowed. I've realised that most *serious* rides I go out on, I've got a tank bag anyway, so it's not a huge loss.

northwind 13-01-07 08:00 PM

Doesn't make a huge amount of difference though. I consider it a positive thing- the only time it makes a big difference is when it's very cold, and it makes the flow a wee bit more consistent. I used to have it under the seat and it'd practically turn off in winter. Mind you, mine's an older design, the new ones are supposed to be less bothered by viscosity changes because of bigger ports.

Is that TSM's bike?

hovis 13-01-07 08:44 PM

yup.................many moons ago  apparantly

northwind 13-01-07 08:49 PM

Thank **** for that, I thought for a moment there might be two of them :)

hovis 13-01-07 08:51 PM

:laughat: not in that colour

Stu 13-01-07 08:51 PM

Can it be put in the same place (behind cover - not under seat) on a pointy?

Mark_h 13-01-07 09:04 PM

Mine is also behind the plastic cover you have to take off to get the rider seat off. Stays clean and seems perfectly fine. Only problem is you only know it's running low when you see the lack of oil in the delivery tube so make sure you can see a bit of tube somewhere unless you intend to be super-vigilant and take the cover off often enough to check.

Yep thats my bike, a long time ago now, i think last year. Its all black now. And yes i do believe there is another one similer in london, but mine is unique.

But back to the subject, that is the best place for the scottoiler on the curvey SV's.

Considering everything the SV can hold a 3 course meal under the rear/front seat. At one time i had spare levers, toolkit, waterproofs, cargo net + a couple other things. Now there is only waterproofs, net + "Randy Dandy SV650 Rider/Pillion Kit".

There's one quite a lot like it in Edinburgh just now, I should get some pics...

I mounted a touring kit to my shovel

advantage - easy access for refilling & adjustment , easy mounting - touring kit = long time between refills

disadvantage - lots of vibration, causes some leakage, license plate is always filthy (could be an advantage when you pass a speed camera) not protected from elements, in wet riding conditions, reservoir gets contaminated and vibration causes contaminants to emulsify, loads of fun cleaning the lines afterward

northwind 14-01-07 02:29 PM

How many miles do you get out of the res + HCR? Something ridiculous no doubt :) I've always been tempted to get the Lube Tube to boost mine's capacity- it sits above the reservoir so it could go in that big gap down the left hand side of the luggage space where small things fall and get stuck :)

RandyO 14-01-07 02:43 PM

around 5000 miles if I had it adjusted correctly

if I opened up the drip rate, I could make it go in 500 miles the chain & sprockets would be clean as a whistle

Normally I run Dextron type III automatic transmission fluid , in winter, I thin it with kerosene about 25%-30%

northwind 14-01-07 03:59 PM

Do you run the rate higher for your dirt trail riding? Just curious here...

Jase22 14-01-07 04:25 PM

I've got my oiler under the passenger seat, but mounted to the subframe. Cut some of the stock undertray plastics away to make access easier. The tubes to the sprocket are a bit long though, but it works well enough.

northwind 14-01-07 05:56 PM

Mine doesn't work if it's far off vertical... But that could be because of the older design. I used to have it more or less where you have it, Jase22, and it was always losing its prime.

yeah - so where is it?

Don't tell me it's that thing to the rear of the tax disc - looks far to trick

That would be the remote reservoir for the shock, I guess...

That would be exactly my point :) It's behind the cover, the pipes are behind the swingarm, you can just see a wee bit by the sprocket. Stealthy!

I had a touring fitted new to the bike '05 ( Yes I don't get out much on the bike it's my Toy) and after 6.700 miles still got plenty left in the Res, however I keep the drip rate low, past expereince with a scotoiler on full drip and back wheel sliding was scary and expensive!

I've been meaning to ask about that. How much oil gets onto the rubber? Is it a problem? The slightest bit of moisture on a greasy roundabout puts the sh*ts up me anyway so an oily back tyre ....?

Also Norfie, where did you get the chainguard and that back hugger ot mudguard you got. I like that set up.

John

northwind 16-01-07 11:09 AM

Chainguard's an ebay special, no idea who made it- but it was very cheap ally, one of teh lugs just snapped. Shame, I liked it... The hugger's a Pyramids one.

Oil on the back wheel is a problem especally with standard tyres! More oil gets on to the wheel rim rather than the tyre and also on the shock, chain gaurd, but easy enough to clean however I think part of the problem was the drip tube being partially blocked by dirt etc.. causing the scotoiler to blast out oil rather than drip. With the SV I have had no issues at all regarding xs oil.

northwind 16-01-07 07:57 PM

I've never had problems with oil on the tyre, though I've had a small amount of spray get onto the edge a few times it's never actually caused a problem. I can see how it could though, quite easily. If you keep the flow down to the minumum effective- which is how it should be anyway- then it ought to be fine.

A pic of my scottoiler install too. Used the thread hole to mount behind the offside panel. Ran the line under the swingarm.

I have had several bikes with the HCR on them. All suffered with boltscoming loose or fractures of the mudguard. Too much weight IMO. The lube tube seems to be a brilliant solution. All chain driven bikes should have SO's fitted as standard.

rob13 29-01-07 02:49 PM

Ive got mine strapped to the frame inside the rear passenger seat. The only way you can see the install is by the grey ties which hold the feed onto the swingarm. Once the autocom and toolkit are in there, as well as the disc lock, everything gets a bit cramped.

Blue Flame 29-01-07 03:10 PM

I got a voucher for Christmas off the missus and fitted mine here ---->

As you can see it has been fitted for access convenience rather than looks  The only thing I have been having bother with is the setting. I know it is working cos i've got oil all over the rear wheel (including the tyre) so it is obviously too high a setting but when I try and time the drips it don't seem to drip at all. What setting on the dial is everybody's at?

Mine was up at seven but i have turned it down to five to see how that goes.
