Hiya Kwak.. remember my old naked SV1000, gentle trip to the stormy last year?

That 1 gave me an indicated 172 mph at just below red line in top I guess that it was somewhere near the max geared speed of 165?

Terry

Coming back from a Buell trackday at Silverstone on my SV1000S, 4 knobheads in a Peugeot estate decided they had to get past me on the A34 even though I was doing about a ton  .

I let them get about a mile in front of me and then started to wind it on.

I went past them at an indicated 150, which was only 9300 revs  - this was with a tankbag, so I could not get right down on the tank.

Didn't see the Peugeot again

I'll never understand car drivers like that. A few months ago I turned off a roundabout and overtook a pug 306 (TD no less). I was sat doing about 80 on a 60 road when he started flashing me and indicated to overtake. I let him get level, looked over and realised it was 4 young chavs tracksuited up to the max. From 5th to 3rd I duly went and pinned the throttle. Didn't see them again either :D

kwak zzr 21-01-07 11:39 AM

I'm sure lots of dim car driver out there dont really realise the speed of motorcycles.

kwak zzr 21-01-07 11:41 AM

i had a pug 306 TD try it with me, it was a young female driver who evan pulled on the outside of me at traffic lights to try and get away quicker

WicklowSV 21-01-07 01:43 PM

I've seen 170mph on the clock  (on a 'closed' road of course!). Mind you, I've added two teeth to the rear (42t instead of 40t) and so the true speed will be a bit lower.

AFAIK, most bike speedo's are fairly inaccurate at high speeds - recall an article in Ride about it a while back where some bikes were nearly 10% off when only doing a ton or so.

AlanSv 21-01-07 05:02 PM

yes it wasn't at the stops, I just lost my bottle. and mine has a 42T on the back, so the speedo is out anyway.

TSM 21-01-07 05:11 PM

Its fast. Thats the answer.

kwak zzr 21-01-07 10:37 PM

mine feels like a turbo charged 650. :D

northwind 22-01-07 01:22 AM

Like most bigger bikes, it'll go as fast as most riders will allow it to :)

wheelnut 22-01-07 01:57 AM

Adequate :P
