Trials bike ... happy now Hovis!

Got to let you know of my new find...and am sure others are going to say they already knew about it but....

Last night I went to pick up my new ty250 (big kid that I am!) from Wakefield. I was starving so stopped and asked this bloke 'is there a chippy round here' ..... like you do. Well I got more then I bargained for. A brilliant drive thru chippy and a resturant called Empire (anyone know it?)

The BEST fish and chips I have ever had, and a dam good brew . If any of you are in that area, find it, you will love it!

The one on Bunbury Street opposite the bus garage in Notts is one of the best I've ever been to.

Are we to be treated to some pics of your new trials bike then Tomcat ?

:D

sure .... need to do a few mods yet! Needs a front sprocket guard (on its way from fleebay!), engine guard thingy, think that's about it!

Got home about 11 last night so not given it the full treatment yet (is in the kitchen on a stand ready!), am v excited about it! Will get pics over the weekend and post, for those who are interested! Just need to learn to ride it .... have done a bit but now is the time to grab it by the scruff of its neck!

I think the key with trials is patience and perseverance, I wish I'd tried a bit harder before I sold my Fantic.

I mountain bike quite a bit so I consider myself fairly well balanced (obviously not in an emotional way, am as flaky as the next person! ) so I think that should help. As I say I have done a bit and got the bug to do more, so thought I may as well give it a shot. Am quite aggressive when I want to do something so see how it goes, just hope I don't scare myself too much :)

Any tips gratefully received!

Do you not have chip shops in Portugal ? (you do live there don't you ?)
You could always have a rideout to Belgium to get some, only take you a day or two

Nope, no chip shops here :( I could start my own, but it's not that very good an idea... I'd probably spend the whole time in the kitchen eating them 8-[

Law 01-02-07 02:20 PM

Me want fish 'n' chips too :( Haven't found one as nice as my old local. Was voted into top 21 in the UK several years ago.

89! The exhaust has been bolted to the mud guard which needs attention, not the original exhaust anyway and fits badly so will replace it, new rear tyre needed, needs grip ends and stupid stickers need to come off, and a few other bits n bobs, just need to put our own stamp on it if you know what I mean!

Its a ty250r mono £450. They do still hold their money so I felt that a fair price. Boyfriend has same bike so he has already got loads of spares so should be able to sort it, that partly the reason I went for this bike ..... have been riding his, liked it, and got spares!

Am sure I will have stories to tell shortly of falls and bumps .... can't wait!

Where about do you ride? When I had my TY80 and a lot younger I went to the trials place in Peak Dale. Where else is there?

Tomcat 02-02-07 09:37 AM

WOOOOW that great. Let me know how you go on. I was tempted by gas gas, but had never ridden one and was advised that they are not as friendly (need to rev higher etc) see loads of locals on them though so they must be good .... horses for courses!

I think when learning its good to be on something that feels fairly familiar.

These toys are what keeps us sane, especially when the weather is cr*p, don't have to spend longer washing off then riding with a trials bike (like I seem to with my sv at the mo!)

When does your bike run out on e-bay?

Tomcat 02-02-07 09:38 AM

furrybean; I live in Peak dale! but there is a quarry in Glossop that is closed at weekends

My kids are starting at that club in peakdale soon (hopefully) so I am sure I will have a bash around there if I am allowed!

3 DAYS

the trouble is once you have ridden a newer bike its hard to go back to the older ones........but the TY is indestructible..........trust me i know

But then the costs go up! Hope you get it, we can swap disaster stories! The idea for me is that this mustn't cost me too much, purse strings can't take it

Do you want to show me the linky or is it secret! (I understand if so!) :)

Gee that looks tidy, and if it is as described it is going to be mint. Hope the price is right for you mate. Am sure it is a good buy, just hope the auction doesn't run the price silly. Could you go and view, then wave your cash in front of him - might help him decide not to wait for the auction!

hovis 02-02-07 10:03 AM

i have a limit & i think this will go over it.......but a freind buys & sells trials bikes,so he is looking . he has a sherco for sale.but they are too snappy & a 2005 beta... too dear

BTW if your wheel is stamped 89. your bike is probaly a 1990 as the wheel is a year older than the bike.......i think

but the blue strips on the tank are off an oler bike sombody might have stuck them on .or it could be an older tank?

It does seem a bit of a mish mash, he has messed with it, and bodged a few bits. Not too ars*d really, it runs sweet and stuff can be put right. I do like things to be fairly original but it is a trials bike - not like my sv where the slightest mark p*sses me off!
