The x and y indicate year of manufacture - IIRC, X is 1999 and Y is 2000, it then went K1 for 2001, K2 for 2002 etc.

Mostly the differences in years were minor or colour schemes only. Someone with a Haynes manual will be able to check the X/Y differences if you ask nicely;) ! I have only got a Haynes for my CBR....

Welcome to the site by the way, I suppose I'd better say welcome to the madhouse too (there should be a smiley for that)

And the S refers to wether it's got the half fairing (the bodywork bit, like the bikes at the top right of the page) or not. Also known as bikini fairing.

Sport model from this & last year, and many who have aftermodel bits have full fairing.

SV's a great 1st bike, it's mine (proper bike any way) & I love it.

Welcome.

Difference between K1 and K2 is that K2 has adjustable front suspension. My K1 was first registered in June 03. So I got the best of all worlds really: Naked metal black and silver frame curvy in mint condition :riding: John

Oh how quickley we forget similar questions being asked by other users not a million miles from this post.....

"Curvy" is a reference to the early (1999 - 2002) Models of SV650 due to the shape of the bodywork & fairing on the SV650S.

A major restyle in 2003 gave us the sharper styled 2003-> models. Again the plastics and fairings are kind of "pointy"

If you look at the SV650.org banner at the top of the screen you'll see one of each, SV650S "curvy" on the left, SV650S "pointy" on the right.
