That was one interesting programme, just goes to show how ruthlessley we are all conned by the media.... particularly liked the bit about Mrs Thatch and her nuclear plan.

I'm always sceptical about stuff like this. I mean, how accurate was the programme, and do we just go on the single word of this programme, compared to the multitude of voices that we hear saying CO2 causes global warming?

So I did a little digging around (google for "facts on global warming"). Apparently (direct C&P):

1. Britain is one degree Celsius cooler now than it was at the time of the Domesday book.
2. Greenland got its name from the verdant pastures that attracted the Norse settlers under Eric the Red in 986. They carried on their normal way of life (based on cattle, grain, hay and herring) for 300 years until the Little Ice Age, when they were driven off by the encroaching ice and the Inuit took over. The ice and the Inuit are still there.
3. Carbon dioxide is a minor greenhouse gas. In the atmosphere there is over a hundred times the concentration of water vapour, which is the dominant greenhouse gas.
4. Without the Greenhouse Effect there would be no life on Earth.
5. Temperature measurements by satellite, radio sonde balloons and well maintained rural surface stations in the West show no significant warming.
6. The only evidence of significant warming comes from mainly non-western stations that are probably ill maintained or those that are contaminated by the Urban Heat Island Effect.
7. Computer models of the climate are worthless, as they are based on many assumptions about interactions between climate factors that are still unknown to science. They are generally unstable and chaotic, giving a wide variety of answers depending on the input assumptions.
8. The Kyoto agreement would have a devastating effect on the world economy but, since carbon dioxide is a minor greenhouse gas, an undetectable effect on the climate.
9. The IPCC (the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) has been the main engine for promoting the global warming scare. It has become notorious for its corrupt practices of doctoring its reports and executive summaries, after they have been approved by the participating scientists, to conform to its political objectives
10. The really big lie about man-made global warming is that almost all scientists accept it. More than 4,000 scientists from 106 countries, including 72 Nobel prize winners, signed the Heidelberg Appeal (1992), calling for a rational scientific approach to environmental problems. Many senior scientists have also supported The Statement by Atmospheric Scientists on Greenhouse Warming (1992), The Leipzig Declaration (1997) and finally the Oregon Petition (1998) which received the signatures of over 19,000 scientists

Also, the Earth absorbs enough energy to raise air temperature, at ground level, by 0.5C, every day apparently. That's a heck of a lot of energy. However, it's theoretically possible for the Earth to give off 5 times that amount of energy. That's why Ice Ages happen. It only retains this energy because of the "Greenhouse Effect".

More CO2 is released by the sea evaporating than human activity (mentioned in the programme too). Anyone know how long it takes for the Atlantic ocean to heat up by 1C? Or cool down by 1C? I don't think it's going to cool much in our lifetimes.

I'm still sceptical about it all, but I certainly won't be bending over backward to cut CO2 emissions. This is mainly because of #7 above.

Isn't one of the effects of "so called" global warming tha Britain will get colder because of the decline of the Gulf Stream ?

Those eejits predicted weather in 50 years time. How? That is simply impossible. I checked the weather last week and today was supposed to be fine. Wrong. If they can't predict weather in 5 days then 50 years can only be sheer stupidity

The gulf stream has been declining for years, yes. But how do we know this is caused by the greenhouse effect?

Climate records show that the gulf stream has completely stopped in the past.

If the Gulf Stream stops, the Arctic temperatures drop. Surely this is just part of mother natures "Oh crap I'd better do something, the ice caps are getting a little too small" instinct. What's to say it's caused by us? What's to say it's not?

But the ice sheets are constantly expanding & contracting all year round, as the programme last night said, we only ever hear about bits falling off, because it makes for good viewing. Who wants to sit & watch water turning to ice? That'd be like paying a TV licence to watch paint dry!

What this program really showed is that the "experts"actually know little more than the rest of us about what is going on.Just like experts in most fields(economics child abuse healthcare you name it)they are only a bunch of largely self appointed and very self opinionated jobs for the boys types.With apologies to some brilliant comedians(how apt)they are a self perpetuating oligarchy whose main interest is to keep the rest of us in awe of them.What basis is that for a system of government?:mad:

Even if the scientists are wrong about the causes and effects of "Global Warming" we shouldn't stop being environmentally conscious, recycling etc, and most importantly, trying to make non-renewable energy sources last as long as possible...

The program has nothing to do with recycling. It has everything to do with our day to day life. All major political parties are using the CO2 causing "global warming" so called green policy to tax us more on every aspect of our living. Ken Livingston used that excuse also to widen his congestion charge zoon which is set to be followed by every major city. More fuel tax, gadgets to track where you have been and tax you on the bases of that etc etc.

I think the program showed us that the assumption of “global warming caused by CO2 produced by human” is simply not true. And evidance have shown that sun’s activity directly influrenced the warming of earth in the past history.

Why should anyone accept the increase on “globle warming” aspect of green tax when you know that it is only a lie to get more tax from us?

cos its all about money and money equals power and while we are all running round concerned about the enviroment we are having our gaze diverted away from other matters. Like the fact our troops are getting battered in sh#tholes like Iraq and Afghanistan. I mean the planet has been around for what 4 billion years ? are we really supposed to believe that 150 yrs of industrialisation has wrecked the earth ? sorry dont think so :mad:
