New biker cafe opening in Todmorden Yorks/Lancs

Went through Todmorden on the Yorkshire/Lancashire border this afternoon and noticed a new biker cafe called Big D's due to open on March 28th.

If travelling from Todmorden towards Halifax it's on the main road on the left, just outside Todmorden. Carpark to front. Obviously, if travelling towards Todmorden from Halifax it's on the right, just before entering Todmorden. Carpark still to front ;o)

I'm working a 9-5 in Preston that day so providing it's not bouncing it down I'll pop over after work to see what it's about.

Does that mean they're getting more expensive Captain :?:

I thought the place was up for sale (or has it now got new owners?)

it is up for sale, but at the price he wants its difficult to get any serious interest, + it needs a refit , if you see the place when its quiet the furnitures wrecked and te toilets need doing, totally inadequate for the ammount of people that visit, he keeps putting the tea and coffee, anything to get his takings up,

As regulars we visit 2-3 times a week, ive mated who are there 5+ times,
some of them complained sbout being cold over the winter and asked him to put the heating on, he wouldnt put it on , so over the winter weve all been going to a local pub and having a meal there instead in wartmth and comfort.

last summer they were considering introducing a 50p charge per bike, as they were getting upset that people were coming to the meets but not spending much in the cafe........... some people go for a "meal" some people go for a coffee, and some people just go for a chat with there mates, it was teh latter that were getting irksome...........

Not been to Squires since we moved from York. I understand they moved to a new location and it was all shiny and smart? Is it now as run down as the old site?

Can't seem to find one atm

If you can find a map, it's on the left about 1 mile out of the centre of Todmorden on the Halifax road. Just look for some bikes out side an old pub with a sign on it that says "Big D's Biker's Cafe". If you hit the 40mph zone you've gone a couple of hundred yards too far.

Is it on the north side or the south side?

Going North into Todmorden(real LOTR name that), there's a east/west fork.
Is it before the fork?

Squires moved a few years ago now, just out of the village back toward the old A1, they bought the New inn pub at newthorpe, it had been shut for a few years and they moved in, its a much better location with a massive car park and overflow for the summer, but theyve never spent any money on the place, apart from building a new tea hut in the car park to lessen the queues in the summer, and then that only gets opened when its really really busy, so most of the time you still end up waiting ages. its a great place to hang out , but its getting pretty crappy inside, i think that the owners are of the opinion that people come here regardless so why invest, espec if theyre trying to get out of it......... dont get me wrong they arent running it into the ground, it gets busier and busier, but it needs some money spending on it.....

Whereabouts in the "north west" are you? so I know which direction you're coming from?
The cafe's on the A646 Halifax Road, heading East in the Castle Street/Lobb Mill area.

Looked on google earth I see it now. That A646 looks like a cracking bit of road. What's it like for traffic?

It's 30 & 40mph limit:( and can get busy on weekends especially.
(did once race a guy on an R6 when I had my sv between Tod and Hebden Bridge.....I was doing 110 when he overtook me, we came round a slight bend to find a Police car coming towards us, we slowed very quickly and went our seperate ways.......and no, I know it's not big or clever but I can see that now I'm older:p )

For future reference, I got there about 7.20pm and there were about 50 bikes. bythe time I left at about 8.40pm there were over 100. It should make a good meeting palce for ride-outs either during the day or in the evening.Live bands every Saturday.
