Locked the front end on a coke can!

Pulling out of a slow junction at the weekend into slow traff. Pulling up behind a car on a slight right-hand bend my front wheel shifted about 2ft to the left without warning. SCARY! I let go of brakes and stuck my legs out in panic, and slowly came to an embarrassing halt without offing it or hitting anything else which was a mirracle. I looked down and my front wheel had locked up on a flat coke can and caused me to slide like skiis.

I've had plenty of high and low speed scary moments but this one is way up there on the "Scare the sh!t out of you" list.:smt103

Surely that's an easy one, they look different. If he didn't see the can, how does he know it wasn't a squirrel!

Glad it was brown trousers instead of blood soaked ones though fella :)

Calm the self! If it was a squirrel on fire, you'd notice it well before you got anywhere near the junction!

IIRC TSM had a similar 'incident' a long time ago involving a straw hat . . . :-(

Same happened to me when I hit a clear piece of corigated plastic (the sort you see on car ports) the size of a fag packet - bit harder to see as well !

Speaking of locking the front end....I had a slight front locking incident on someones visor going into shell oils at Oulton on Sat. Got off the brakes and got round safely though! Phew......what was it doing there you ask?...me too!

Same happened to me many years back on a big fast roundabout near Enfield. I was going about 40 and almost ended up hitting oncoming traffic as I exited.

I remember I sat at the roadside for a good half hour just shaking after that one. Must've smoked a whole pack of ciggys too.

In retrospect, do you think you could have given yourself a chance to see and avoid it by doing anything differently?

I think the sun was in my eyes at the time. I'm usually very wary of the road surface trying to avoid anything that might give me a puncture. I just didn't see it. I think that's what sh!t me up the most cos if I had seen it I would have expected something.
The sexy bird at the side of the road didn't help my concentration either. They have no idea of the knock-on-effect of wearing virtually bugger all at the side of the road has!

My advice for you is to only ride south of the river, the sun never shines over there!
