texting while driving
 

I was driving into town in my cage at lunch hen I noticed the girl in the car behind texting on her phone. Made my blood boil as she was blatantly concentration on that and not the road.


Now the car I was driving is my little £400 shed I use to commute the six miles to work (wife has commandeered the decent one) so it did cross my mind to slam my brakes on as she was not looking where she was going. Any one who was paying attention would be able to have stopped. Thus cause her to go into the back of me, then causing her to be prosecuted for due care and attention etc etc, driving while on the phone. That would teach her a lesson. As I sad it would have not bothered me in my shed, especially as I would be found not at fault!!

Am I really evil for thinking of doing that or would anyone else consider that?

agreed about texting, is it really that important that it cant wait?

stamping on ur brakes is a fine line though. Do bare in mind that if there is no need to stamp on ur brakes as there is no obstruction then u "could" be done for dangerous driving.

This was told to me by a Policeman... how true it is i do not know.

Think again.

If you slam your brakes on for no reason (eg, if someone is tailgaiting you) and they go into the back of you, it's you who is commiting the offence of dangerous driving & causing an accident.

The above (slamming brakes on) is one thing that makes my blood boil. Surely it's better to slow down steadily, without touching the brakes. That way, if they see, they slam the brakes on because they're closer than they thought & it wakes them up (and/or someone runs into the back of them). You could also demonstrate a phone sign to them when they start flashing at you for going 10mph in a 40 zone with no chance of them overtaking.

I've done it before.

A car load of chav's driving up my a*se, they drive right up close brake and back off, they did it a few times, the next time they did I braked really hard with my left foot, whilst keeping my right foot on the gas, When the driver sh*t his pants and locked his brakes up, I let the brake off and accelerated away.

Lets just say they werent best pleased, but I think I made my point.

I do that to everyone. I love the game of "you can't overtake me safely, so I'm going to make you VERY VERY VERY late & majorly **** you off."

Texting while driving - it just shows how life has changed and the fact that keeping in ouch with ones friends means so much in todays society. That's all it is, the girl is worried that if she doesn't test here mate then she won't have any friends.

It paints a pretty poor picture on our social interaction, and how judgement by our peers is critical for todays younger generation.

As for braking, I have 2 methods, the first is using the washers and making sure that I have at least 1 washer jet that sprays over the roof so it hits the windscreen of numpty sitting up my @rse. That usually wakes them up.

The other is to slow down, and down and down until they get the message. I love doing it on a Motorway when I slow down to the pace of the car I'm overtaking, and "box the guy in. They generally either back off, or if they're in a 3 series, they tend to try and shoot up the inside lane to get in front. There's not many that can out accelerate me in the ST when I'm on a motorway, especially if they're giving me a good few metres as well. (Guy in a Merc did the other day though... But is was an AMG55 - so I let him off ;) )

Hey, if someone is behind me and testing, I'll either pull over and let them past or I'll open the throttle and put a few cars between me and said driver.

Mind you, if I'm behind then I do often think about pulling up alongside and reciting them their number plate and time, and that I'll go to the police about them texting...

And yea, jelster, your right. It means more to people to keep in touch than it does to be safe. Wonder of having a bike I guess - theres not a hope in hell of me texting, so I just keep riding until I pull over and can get to my phone (ever tried texting in gloves?!)

Now see, if I ever get around to buying that bullet cam solution, it's simple.

Pull along side, beep to get their attention, then point at the camera stuck to the side of my helmet :) I think they'll get the message.

You forgot the bit that tells of how you slow down enough to get their numberplate, glance at the clock on your bike then send a link to the youtube page with the footage to the police :)

Oh yes, that one is my favourite down the A5045 between Luton and Dunstable. I'd rather the numpty behind hots me at 30 rather than 60 if he's going to drive up my ****.

I was cut up the other day by a lady BMW driver cause she was on the phone. No indicators and three lane changes whilst negotiating a roundabout. When she finally decided to pull in to the 1st lane of a dual carriageway (without indicating) I over took her and then slowed down to a crawl. It wasn't until we were only doing about 10 mph that she thought she had better put the phone down.

That is another thing that makes me laugh, when you see people endanger themselves and otheres screeching and swerving acros the road to avoid a little bunny or mouse etc.

i just keep going, especially if it is a phesant:D , give it to the dog!LOL

although a quirk of english law is that if the person who hits it stops and collects the bird its classed a poaching, however the driver behind can stop and pick it up. All this assuming its not a pate already!! :(

The whole hand held phone law may as well not exisit!
I was on the bike the other day and twice saw people at a give way junct talking on the phone and not paying attention to on coming bike (me!!!!) Used horn and phone hand signals on both- one looked embarressed the other.... laughed!!!!!

Really gets my blood boiling too... i get so tempted to stop the bike making them stop behind me, get out... smash window, take phone, throw phone in road, get back on bike, ride off.. or smash wing mirrors gggrrrrr just annoys me so much. I usually just stare at them looking down on them in traffic.

The problem there is when you have to slow down to avoid some hazard ahead of you, and the numpty on the phone doesn't realise & runs into the back of your bike.

That's why I slow right down. One, it winds them up because I'm making them late. Two, it allows more time for both of us to safely stop should a hazard present itself. It's nothing except defensive driving & catering for the person behind you. :D

I understand that putting your foot on the clutch, rolling forward for a bit and then taking your foot off the clutch will cause the car to slow down quickly due to engine braking. No brake lights either. Never tried it tho... :-)

Best thing is to get some to hook up a switch to your brake lights so you can just flick them on when too close. You stay at the same speed and never touch your brakes but it makes the one behind s*** themselves!!

No-one has every queried an extra switch at any MOT. Its great fun to watch everyone nosedive and has no impact on you

According to national statistics Thames Valley, where i live, has done the most motorists for using a mobile...so in theory there should be less incidents in my area.

I still see a few, but not as much as i see women doing make up in rush hour! A tap on the window usually does the trick, especially if they are applying lip-stick, become startled and paint it over their face like a clown.

That's what the clear bit in a tank bag's for and it's also what the helmets with the lift up fronts were made for....... Honest!!!!

Still haven't mastered texting with gloves on though, but give me time!:rolleyes:
