Hi all,
Thought I would do my bit and introduce myself... I'm merely 23yrs old and live in Leamington Spa (midlands) and a boring company car has made me seriously consider a bike. So that's exactly what I'm doing - passed my CBT a couple of weeks ago, theory test is booked for Thurs before I book my full test (taking lessons in the meantime). Never really riden before, but absolutely LOVE IT! I've been advised from several of my 'biker mates' that an SV650 is a really good 'first-bike'. I have already been trawling through the ForSale section and will keep my eyes peeled. Ideally looking for something no older than 2003 S model, with preferably the lower fairings too (unless you guys do not advise them?) Well, that's it! Hello to one and all :) |
Re: New Member
Hello and welcome. Good luck for tests and searching for a good SV.
The guys can advice you on what to look for if you have had no experience. |
Re: New Member
Alright mate,welcome aboard :)
|
Re: New Member
Lower fairings look pants, get a belly pan rather.
Oh yeah and welcome. |
Re: New Member
Dunno if you,ve met Grinch yet, worth waiting for ;)

Re: New Member
You may wish to scream "AAAARRRRRGGGGHHHH! MY EYES!" upon seeing Grinch's avatar - this is normal.
Check out the MIGTS section. |

Welcome Nick:thumbsup: |
Re: New Member
Welcome to the site mate. I rekon full fairings are the way to go, but 'tis all down to what does it for you - check out the photos section, plenty of different SVs with all kinds of mods to whet your appetite

Gad! Avast there...come aboard and scupper some grog me matey, then we'll make sail for the Windies where ole One eyed Tom buried his chest of doubloons!!:king: PS - I called two of my bikes Nasty Nick - a 500/4 and a decaying 650/750 bonny thingy which had a habit of leaving parts of itself behind so that I never finished a journey with a complete bike  :clown: |
Re: New Member
Whoa, what a friendly bunch of people! :D
Stewie > Should I be worried / scared? Luckypants > Diolch, dwi'n siarad Cymraeg. Ed > All in good time perhaps? Stingo > Someone looking forward to Pirates of the Caribbean? That will mostly be all :p |

Re: New Member
Welcome :) SV makes a fine first, second or third bike (hell, it's my sixth). Top fairing (so an S model) in my opinion is practical from a comfort factor, lower fairing is probably more of a looks thing (I personally think the SV really needs either a belly pan or full lowers) - the OEM ones are not cheap so if you are interested then try to find a bike with them already on.
The avatar, yes, be afraid, be very afraid. The pirates - I'm actually beginning to think the films were based on Stingo :) |
Re: New Member
Hello!
Yea, an SV is a perfect first bike. Easy to ride, comfortable, cheap and bloody good fun. Give it a few thousand miles and people on "faster" bikes wont be running away from you! Get a black one (2003 onwards, the "pointy" models as is the correct terminology around here), with the black frame, and black fairing lowers. Matt |

Re: New Member
Hello Nick!
My name is Nick, I am 26, and I used to live in Leamington Spa until last November and I have a K3 SV650! :D I now live in Oxford, but feel free to get in contact if you need help or advice, my mates still live around Warwick and Brum and I am up and down a fair amount. For what it is worth, I reckon lowers look very good! |
Re: New Member
Hi Nick and weclome!
I'm with you on the company car thing (cars in general, really)... BORING!!!! Wait until your next stuck in a HUGE traffic jam. You'll be sitting there thinking "I could go right down the middle of these if I was on my bike!" Trust me, you'll soon hate your car even more :smt077 |
Re: New Member
Where abouts from north wales are you from?
My parents live in Porthmadog and am up that way quite often! Nick > Thank you very much for the offer. |

Re: New Member
At the moment I am bike-less and licence-less (well bike licence certainly) so this weekend is a little out of the question - but as soon as I'm ready to go, I'll be sure to meet up!!
Test booked for 26th June! So excited! |

What you really need is an immaculate '02 Curvy in silver with belly pan. I know just where you can get one of these. :smt023 I understand the market price for something like this is about £4,500. Bargain I say. :| Good Luck in your test. |

Re: New Member
Plenty of time to practise then. So have you booked a DAS course?
|
Re: New Member
Yes, I'm trying to fit in as many lessons as possible before the test - thoroughly enjoying it so it's no chore!
I've booked myself onto a 3day D.A course where the test is on the 3rd day at my fairly local Riding Training School. I will be sure to let you all know how I get on :) |
