MSVA test - passed.
Well I took the SV in for its MSVA test today (Motorcycle Single Vehicle Approval), a requirement for registering as it is less than 10 years old and is not young enough to have a proper european certificate of conformity.
I put the origiinal screen back on as aftermarket ones can fail if the edge is too sharp, or doesn't have a trim fitted. With a pretty new rear tyre, new rear brake pads and MOT I was pretty confident. Anyway, all was going well until checking the lights, looked like the sidelight bulb had gone between the MOT and MSVA tests (possibly as a result of a trackday, or being bounced about a lot on the back of a trailer recently). Luckily I whipped the cover and sent my dad off to the caravan shop next door to fetch a new bulb. Had to help out with the brake tests, pretty weird feeling. Passed everything including the emissions. The guys there seemed pretty alright, even went off to get me a screwdriver to get at the afore mentioned side light bulb. For those anoraks out there the weight was 91kg over the front and 94kg over the back wheel, wet (oil & water) with 8-9 litres of fuel on board. Just waiting for the UK insurance certificate to come through then I can pop down to the DVLA to get it registered. Fingers crossed it should all be pucka by the weekend. Bit of a ramble, but just pleased I got through one more step of bureaucracy. |
Re: MSVA test - passed.
Congrats for your SV Tim
Was that at the MPTC in Newcastle on Sandy Lane by any chance? |
Re: MSVA test - passed.
Yep, up at Sandy Lane, an impressive set up they've got there.

I work just down the road from there... and when I drove past this morning I was wondering if it's going to be one of the new centres for this harder bike test in 2008. |
Re: MSVA test - passed.
There were some funny markings laid out to the left when you drove in, but I wasn't really looking to be honest, and there wasn't that much space, But may be just enough.
So in other words I don't have a CLUE! |
Re: MSVA test - passed.
I might have a wander down there some time soon just to find out.

Re: MSVA test - passed.
If the bike has been a couple of months younger it probably would have had a European certificate of conformity, so just an MOT an VAT form to fillin and a trip to the local DVLA office would have sufficed.
I have had to change the lights and speedo over too, all together not a big effort, but one day I had to speak 4 different governement departments and Suzuki UK to work out exactly wgich way I should go. |

Didn't know they did DSA tests as well. |
Re: MSVA test - passed.
I thought as a european bike they are not required to have a MSVA approval, I bet the importers don't have to do this for grey import bikes? Or do they?

Re: MSVA test - passed.
If it was a couple of months younger it should/would have had a European certificate of conformity, and then wouldn't require an MSVA test, also if it was over 10 years old it wouldn't neeed one. Unfortunately mine only had a Belgian certificate of conformity.

Yep, mainly choclatium, with stella for cooling water and waffles for seat foam. The speedo also had to read in Flemmish and French depending which half of the country it was in ;)

Re: MSVA test - passed.
Well took all my forms to the DVLA first thing this morning. 50 quid lighter for them to look at my forms (two of which I've already paid for) and I'm told that I'll receive the tax/registration through the post, it normally taking 2 working days to process. Oh, and another 60 quid for road tax. This was slightly annoying as I rang up to check how long it takes and was told that if I went in first thing I could go back late afternoon to collect it all. Ah well, fingers crossed that it comes through the post in the next day or so.
To console myself I finally fitted my CCC can tonight. I shall soon be road legal and massiving it up in the North. Stokesley -Helmsley followed by BBQs, bring on the summer. |
Re: MSVA test - passed.
Tax disc and Reg No have come through, off to get the plate tomorrow then I'm legal and on the road.
I'm a happy bunny finally! |
Re: MSVA test - passed.
Congratulations Tim!
