Nurburgring Vid.

Thought I would post this here as well, some vid from gixerjunkies which also features me on my Hornet 600. My 2nd lap ever of the ring so I was quite impressed to have held the gixxers off for as long as I did. I was riding with a mate who'd not done the ring before but when I saw the 2 gixxers coming up I felt like a little play was in order. You can see me from 4:00 to 6:02 or thereabouts. Really hope I can get back there this year and get quicker!

Good stuff. You realise that you would have held them off a lot longer if
you had been riding an SV. ;)

Nah, it'll polish out. I don't know quite how he crashed but I just think he went a bit quick into a corner and met some Armco. Was lucky to escape with a popped shoulder and some concussion. Still, his bill for the Armco will be impressive!

Nice riding, you certainly looked quicker than the guys on the GSXRs.

Dan, I heard they make you pay for damage (fancy putting the Armco so close to the track!). Am going for the first time this year, did your insurance cover you whilst on the track or did you take our separate? Was it as scary as everyone says?

Hey dude. Well, we watched a bit before we went on the ring and it really put us off. It was a dry sunny afternoon and cars were way quicker than most bikes. There was so much traffic on track and all sorts of near misses were witnessed. Cars also had totally different lines though the bends meaning that bikes got cut up quite a lot if they weren't paying attention to where the cars were. Just check your mirrors before going into a bend and also look over your shoulder, if it's a punto coming up you might be alright, if it's a Porsche GT3, get out the way! My first lap was done in the wet, purely as there was very little traffic on track so I could pretty much go at my own pace. Although as soon as I saw a trackside photographer I started showboating a little which was fun! My second lap was in the dry, the one on the video, and that was just the best experience ever. We got the about 30 mins before the track opened and got out there quick before it got busy. My advice is take it easy, don't try to learn the whole track at once or you will fly over a crest thinking you know what's next and get caught out. Pick a section of 3 or 4 bends and learn it over 5 or 6 laps and move on. Eventually it will all come together (after about 100 laps or so they reckon). Check you r insurance small print. Some companies specifically exempt you if on the Nurburgring. I was with Bennetts and all was fine. If you do have an off it will cost you about 500 Euros plus any Armco damage. They charge very high for replacing Armco! You will love it though, I shall be back there later this year.:D

Thanks for that Dan, that's just what I wanted to hear. :D

I'm doing a 2 day taining school which starts on a Monday, but the guys I'm going with (I only know 2 out the group of 8) go a few times a year and are very quick, I wont be keeping up with them. Anyway, they all fancy doing a few laps the Sunday before the school starts, which is a public day. Was a bit worried going on it for the first time on my own wobbling around with the GT3's all around - be annoying if I did prang it and missed out on the (expensive) 2 days schooling. Looking forward to it now as we go 14th July! I think I wont watch, just get on and do it, unless its wet!

I didn't realise there was a school! That would be sweet. I've been watching lots of videos of the ring trying to remember it in my head. I'll probably be heading out there on my own next time, but will ask around here before I go (August Sept time) just me and the ring. I want to get in about 10 laps or so over 3 days, weather permitting of course. Have a good trip!
