** UPDATED ** Route and times for Sat 16th

UPDATED FRI 15 JUN - DETAILED DISTANCES & FUEL STOP

Edit - have changed first few miles to take us past a petrol station in Lichfield where we will all stop while those who need it fill up for the start of the ride. If another fill required (shouldn't be required for most) there's a petrol station in Matlock - when we stop at Matlock Bath continue on into Matlock and turn right at the roundabout near the railway station - petrol station is down there on the left.

I went over the first part of the course (Basset's Pole - Ashbourne) yesterday evening. Distances should be fairly accurate. From there on they are estimates from multimap. Total distance about 120 miles - should be OK on one full tank. If I have time will also post maps.

Cheers Keith (My mobile - 07733 002350)

10AM - Meet at Basset's Pole pub car park.

0m 10:30 AM - depart Basset’s Pole onto A38 North towards Lichfield
5m At Roundabout take 2nd exit A5206 towards Lichfield.
6m *** Fuel up - Petrol Station on right close to end of this road.
Continue onto A51Upper St John St owards Lichfield Centre
6.5 m Go through crossroads and turn left on A51 the Friary
After a few hundred yards turn right at roundabout, continuing on A51
9.m At roundabout turn onto A515 towards Ashbourne
(11m – road being resurfaced – loose chippings)
(20m – approaching Draycott in the clay – loads of speed cameras!!)
24m At roundabout join A50 towards Uttoxeter / Stoke
25m Leave and rejoin A515, go under A50 and head for Ashbourne
(30m – road repairs – temporary surface)
34m At Ashbourne continue on – road turns into A517 for Belper
45m At Belper mill turn left onto A6 North for Matlock
(Popular fast bike road – Police patrol it a lot)
54m Arrive Matlock Bath and park on left amongst bikes where you can (it gets very busy)

Fish & Chips, leave at 13:00

0m Leave Matlock on A6 North for Buxton and on to Cat & Fiddle
10m Bakewell – continue on A6 North for Buxton
21m Buxton – at 1st roundabout turn left onto Dale Road and continue through lights onto West road and Macclesfield road
22m At Juntion with A53 turn left towards leek / Macclesfield
22.5m Turn Right onto A54 Macclesfield, which turns into A537
Cat & Fiddle road is a great ride but needs respect – my son watched his friend kill himself on this road.
Because of this Police are usually out in force for speeders
30m Arrive Cat and Fiddle Inn

Brew / Soft Drink, leave about 14:30

0m Depart Cat & Fiddle for Macclesfield – Leek – Ashbourne
7m At Junction with A523 turn left towards Leek
(Leek is speed camera city)
21m Half mile after lights / crossroads in Leek turn right onto Springfield Road towards Ashbourne
Then turn left back onto A523 South towards Ashbourne
*** 27m - watch out for Waterhouses - 30 limit with several cameras
30m Continue, road turns into A52
36m Arrive Ashbourne. Continue along main street to Buxton Road (A515)
Turn left after 50 yds and pull onto Market square

End of Ride about 15:30

Cheers Keith

Route plan to Matlock Bath looks fine=D>

Not too familiar with the roads up around there, but would it not be better to go from MB to C&F via the A515. Stay off the A6 where possible. Possibly use the A5012 or the B5055.

Just a suggestion, and not even sure we can make it yet anyway.

OK by me. A515 is straight and fast at Buxton end. A6 more twisty (and prettier IMO) but will be busier / slower.

Any other opinions?

I'm up for anything. Although i feel we need a definative Thread as theres a few of them now.

A list of definate people would also be good, so we dont turn up wondering wether we should be waiting for one or two more people etc?

Well I'm a definite :D Got my route sorted. Esentially, sit on the A5 until the A38, where I swing right & follow my nose until I fall over you lot at Bassetts Pole. The A5 has it's uses!

Just the timing to sort out now.

Hey,

Not sure if I can make it but if you arent worried about distance there could be an addition from Matlock:

follow the A6 through Bakewell and at Ashford in the Water take the A619 to Baslow
Continue to Calver and up through Froggat (Brilliant Rd!)
Drop down through Hathersage and Hope then Castleton, up Winnats Pass then to Chapel en le Frith.
If from Chapel you go to Whaley Bridge and then up the A5004 Long hill to Buxton you can ride that then on to the Cat!

Its quite a bit longer but a nice little addition!

Just retrace the route out. A515 south down to A50, south 1 mile, then right at roundabout towards Lichfield, get to A5 and back to West Mids.

Them's great roads furry but I fear we're pushing it for one ride. Maybe a separate ride up there. Whaley Bridge to Buxton is one of my favourite roads. Less well known than C&F but loads of fun.

Cheers Keith

Furrybean mentioned the magic word. Bakewell :D Count me in on that, fond memories of Bakewell. :)

This weekend, I shall be mostly getting saddle sore :D 170miles (ish) to even get to the meet :D

A6 Matlock to Buxton (as originally proposed) goes through Bakewell, but some others want to go on the A515. No problem if we split into two groups and meet at Buxton I guess. I'd favour going straight up the A6 as it's twistier, but it carries a lot more traffic.

If we leave Matlock at 13:00 you have some time, or you can meet us at Buxton about half past.

I can hang about post rideout & drop by Bakewell, I'll be in the area, and I aint fussy about times/routes etc.

I've never ridden in that part of the country before so I have no idea (and so I suppose no preference) of what route we take, I'm easy whatever, but I am dead excited about this rideout. The flippin weather had better stay good.

Well, I for one, would prefer to stay as one group, unless there is a huge turnout, so I'll go the original route Well Oiled. It'll be fun either way I'm sure. :p

+1. Especially if there is a huge turnout. The noise. Oh my god the noise! :D Lets all stay as one group folks, please.

If we're not passing through Bakewell, I'll double back after the ride, no problem.

Carlos, bring waterproof gear. I will be doing. I'm going to stick my neck out & say that I hope it does rain. I'll get to test these PR2s in the wet then.

Re: Route and times for Sat 16th

I hope there isnt any rain, if its ****ing it down giving a good and proper soaking, i would question wether or not to go out iam afraid.

Not that I'am a fair weather rider but I dont have much experience in the wet and from what I have had I cant see myself enjoying a wet rideout.

The only way to gain experience is to go out & ride in it unfortunately. The key elements are to keep as dry as possible (your gear will keep you warm so long as it doesn't get soaked through) and to ride appropriate for the conditions.

There's more grip in the wet than you think, but I wouldn't expect to tear arounda corner at 90mph, being cranked over just to find a manhole cover. That's asking to spit your teeth out.

It'd be a shame not to meet folks, but at the end of the day, everyone has to do whatever they're comfortable with.

The weather forecast does show rain/showers for the midlands on saturday though.

Re: Route and times for Sat 16th

I have to say I'd probably also have to give some serious consideration if its raining tropical monsoon proportions but its ok if its only showers. Its not the getting wet that bothers me at all, its the fact that the rear end tries to over take the front end at the best of times but when its really wet (by which I mean standing water everywhere wet) its just flippin scary. But as Baph says aswell the weather forecast I saw for saturday was only showers so fingers crossed.

You have (or make that will have) a PM.

I've no idea about times, I'm just going to get to Bassetts Pole at the specified time & follow the bike in front :D

Nice one Keith, cheers. Route, mileage and times sound perfect for me and if the weather does turn out to be dry then all the better.

Probably have to find a fuel stop at lunch stop in Matlock as the poxy tank range on the TL will be lucky to make the whole route in one go, anyone know if theres one nearby?
